Jihadists form "Islamic state" in Syria

Revealing yet again the hollowness and naivete of the assumption that the Syrian rebels are a group of democratic pluralists. "Jihadists form ‘Islamic state’ in Syria," from AP, November 19 (thanks to Block Ness):

A group of extremist Islamist factions in Syria has rejected the country’s new opposition coalition.

The group said in a video statement it has formed an “Islamic state” in the embattled city of Aleppo to underline it wants nothing to do with the Western-backed bloc. The video appears to be a reaction to the formation this month of the Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces.

And the West's 'leaders' of U.S., Britain and France, etc, are falling over themselves to supply the Islamic jihadists of Syria with equipment, training and more, learning nothing from Libya fiasco.

Bad guys versus bad guys. This is what is really going on in Syria. You'd think by now most everyone in the West would have figured this out because realizing this is far short of the demands imposed by comprehension of rocket science. But loads and loads of rubes, which would include many leaders of the Western world, haven't figured this out. Damn dumb, but oh so very modern.

Ah, man is indeed an animal species condemned to repeat its mistakes again and again in spite of man's extraordinary capacities compared to other animal species. What a waste. After all, if man without fail took advantage of its numerous capacities, then a decrepit, dysfunctional and desultory religion like Islam would have never arisen in the first place.

When one kicks down a rotten door, this person can't be accused of violence. The Obama Administration can't be blamed for the Arab Spring--the Mubarak and Gaddafi governments in Egypt and Libya were already rotting from within, and were going to fail sooner or later. The same is true in Syria. And the same was true with the government of Saddam Hussein--a secular-nationalist government that suppressed Islamists, but that Dubya spent a trillion dollars and over four thousand American soldiers' lives deposing.

Of course Syria is going to go Islamist. Disgust with the Assad regime, as well as the realities of Syrian religious demographics, make this inevitable. And this WILL happen very soon, with or without foreign assistance. Between an Islamist Syria, Egypt, Iran, and now Turkey, this has major implications for both Israeli security and U.S. Realpolitik. The United States will NOT intervene in, or offer anything more than moral support to Israel over a broader regional conflict.

U.S. and European economies are on very shaky ground, and can not withstand an oil price shock. OPEC countries, all of which are pro-Palestinian, know this, and will leverage the threat of an oil embargo. America is battered, bruised, and bankrupt after Dubya's misadventure in Iraq, and there is zero public appetite for another Middle East war. And NATO-member Turkey controls the transit of Israel's fuel and much of its food imports. Forget undeveloped offshore oil and gas reserves, or miracle greenhouses in the desert: Israel currently has to import all most all of its fuel, and most of its food. With Turkey's Gulenist government taking a very vocally pro-Palestinian stance, the implications of this are obvious.

Israel needs to discard its current policy, which is seriously out of step with 21st Century economic, geopolitical, and military realities. This means, among other things, accepting the inevitability of Palestinian statehood. And Palestinians of whatever religious stripe need to admit that supporting Islamist movements like Hamas has only turned them into miserable pawns of foreign governments, who are using them and their country to fight a proxy war against Israel.

What the Obama Administration CAN be blamed for is stupidly getting behind the Arab Spring when it was crystal clear that it was really destined to be an Arab Winter precisely because of the monstrosity which is Islam.

As for Bush deposing the megalomaniac Saddam Hussein, he had to. Such an unstable dictator had to go. Where Bush erred was in thinking that true democracy could be established in Iraq. No true democracy can ever be squared with the totalitarianism which is Islam. What Bush should have done was to put an authoritarian ruler in SH's place, one who would run Iraq with an iron hand while being pro-American or at least neutral. Such a kind of ruler is the best a Muslim country can do because of all the built-in pathologies inherent in Islam.

As for America, Israel and the West in general having problems, yes they do, but if only they would realize the iniquity of Islam, such problems, which pale in comparison to those which are endemic in the extremely dysfunctional, repressive and pathetic Islamic world, would be of no account and could be fixed once Islam is treated as the pariah that it is.

It's interesting reading your assessments. Overwhelmingly all one has to do is to conclude the opposite of what you allege and they have about a 99% likelihood of getting things right.

Why do you think that the US has the right to install a leader of the Iraqi nation?
Do you believe the US was right when it invaded Vietnam? Do you subscribe to the "my country, right or wrong" theory of geopolitics?

Is that so? So if I go around town, kicking in every poorly-maintained portal in town, murdering any inhabitants I find, and then burning the place down, I "can't be accused of violence"?

What crap.

America and Britain couldn't be blamed for the rise of Adolph Hitler, either. However, if they had responded to that rise by praising and supporting Fascism, then they certainly could have been blamed for that. It is just the same with the Shari'ah states of the "Arab Spring".

Such a reaction can only come from either a terrible misunderstanding of what is happening in the Mahgreb and the Levant, and assuming that these revolutions represented some sort of move towards democracy and freedom, or else a deliberate support of Shari'ah.

As far more Westerners are ignorant than evil, it has mostly been the former. Still, this foolishness has been extraordinarily dangerous to us, as the murder of Ambassador Stevens and his diplomatic staff proves.

Why is it that for Muslims, the only options are corrupt, semi-secular states or else horrific Shari'ah hell-holes? Doesn't this say something *very* troubling about Islam?

And now, this vicious antisemite is back to his favorite topic: urging us to abandon Israel to her Muslim destroyers. **Ugh**.

As this poster would have us believe, "Realpolitik" involves surrendering to Islam and enabling Jihad. Repulsive *and* false.
