Jordan: Third honor killing in a week as Muslim brothers murder sister for “immoral relationship”

Muslims commit 91 percent of honor killings worldwide. A manual of Islamic law certified as a reliable guide to Sunni orthodoxy by Al-Azhar University, the most respected authority in Sunni Islam, says that “retaliation is obligatory against anyone who kills a human being purely intentionally and without right.” However, “not subject to retaliation” is “a father or mother (or their fathers or mothers) for killing their offspring, or offspring’s offspring.” (‘Umdat al-Salik o1.1-2). In other words, someone who kills his child incurs no legal penalty under Islamic law.

The Palestinian Authority gives pardons or suspended sentences for honor murders. Iraqi women have asked for tougher sentences for Islamic honor murderers, who get off lightly now. Syria in 2009 scrapped a law limiting the length of sentences for honor killings, but “the new law says a man can still benefit from extenuating circumstances in crimes of passion or honour ‘provided he serves a prison term of no less than two years in the case of killing.'” And in 2003 the Jordanian Parliament voted down on Islamic grounds a provision designed to stiffen penalties for honor killings. Al-Jazeera reported that “Islamists and conservatives said the laws violated religious traditions and would destroy families and values.”

In light of all this, until authorities get the courage to tell the truth about honor killing, there will be many more such murders.

“Three brothers reportedly murder their married sister,” by Rana Husseini for the Jordan Times, November 5 (thanks to Hussein):

AMMAN “” Criminal Court Prosecutor Qahtan Qawaqzeh on Monday questioned three brothers who reportedly murdered their married sister earlier in the day in the latest so-called honour killing to take place in the Kingdom this year, official sources said.

The three suspects, residents of Ruseifa, 15 kilometres east of Amman, were apprehended by authorities shortly after arriving at the police station claiming that one of them “stabbed his sibling to death at her home in the capital’s Shmeisani neighbourhood to cleanse his family”s honour”, a senior police official said.

“Investigators were not convinced by their story and decided to detain all three brothers for questioning,” the source told The Jordan Times.

In their initial testimony to the police and Qawaqzeh, the suspects said “they received information that their sister, who was married to an Arab national, was involved in an immoral relationship and decided to come to Amman to discuss the matter with her”, the source said.

When the brothers entered their sister’s house, one of them stabbed her with a knife 17 times to different parts of her body, according to the suspects” initial confessions.

“Two of the brothers claimed that they tried to prevent the third from stabbing their sister, but failed,” the source added.

Qawaqzeh is currently questioning the suspects and is expected to charge the three brothers with premeditated murder.

The victim was the third woman to be killed for reasons related to family honour in Jordan in less than a week.

On October 31, a 56-year-old man reportedly strangled his 22-year-old daughter with his hands at his home in Zarqa, 22 kilometres east of the capital, following an argument related to her “alleged immoral behaviour”.

On November 3, a 35-year-old man slit the throat of his divorced niece, in one of the Kingdom’s governorates, claiming family honour as the motive. The previous day, police handed her over to her father, who signed a guarantee that his daughter would not be harmed after she went missing from her family”s home for 10 days.

    ……………………..

And remember, Jordan both has a small population and is considered one of the more “moderate” Muslim countries.

Of course, even “moderate” Jordan has repeatedly resisted serious penalties for “Honor killing”, as Robert Spencer notes.

    More:

In light of all this, until authorities get the courage to tell the truth about honor killing, there will be many more such murders.
    ……………………..

I always have problems with the above passage”this implies that the authorities in Muslim countries *really want* to discourage Honor killings, but simply lack the courage to step forward.

Whereas from all evidence it would appear that many of the authorities in Muslim countries hold the same views that their Muslim populace does: that Honor killings are understandable or even praiseworthy.

    More:

In their initial testimony to the police and Qawaqzeh, the suspects said “they received information that their sister, who was married to an Arab national, was involved in an immoral relationship and decided to come to Amman to discuss the matter with her”, the source said.

When the brothers entered their sister’s house, one of them stabbed her with a knife 17 times to different parts of her body, according to the suspects’ initial confessions.
    ……………………..

    “Stabbed her with a knife 17 times”””discussion”, Islamic style…

And we see how pervasive the threat is to these victims”just in these three cases, the perpetrator was the father, the uncle, or the brothers.

In the case of “Honor killings”, any male relative”and sometimes female ones, as well”can murder for any perceived slight to their “Honor”.

    “immoral relationship”?

Hmm, I thought that murder was immoral …

I guess reading the quran magically makes this heinous sin a-ok, eh? ..yeah only in evil and idiotic islamoland can this falsehood be so. Hey whatever sin is your pleasure, then allah has it covered. Whether it be murder, or sex with countless women ..you name it! What a sly devil allah is.

From the article: ‘the suspects said “they received information that their sister, who was married to an Arab national, was involved in an immoral relationship’.

    ‘They received information’.

From whom? In what way? And what sort of information? A rumour, a whisper, a photograph? All of which could be, quite easily (even a compromising photo) fabricated.

It’s perfectly possible that someone – a relative or a stranger, could be either – who, for whatever reason or for no reason at all, decided they wanted the woman DEAD, made up an accusation that they *knew* would likely motivate her brothers to dispose of her.

It is perfectly possible that this poor woman had done *nothing* at all.

You don’t have to have done anything, in dar al islam; all that’s needed is for someone to want you dead, and to suggest or claim that you’ve done something that under sharia merits death, for you to be dead, dead, dead…frequently at the hand of your erstwhile nearest and dearest. Of course, someone who wants you dead may kill you first and proffer (made up out of whole cloth) the sharia-based justification for the killing afterward, in order to get off scot free.

In effect, every Muslim female lives under a temporarily suspended death sentence. And at any random moment, one or more persons around her, male *or* female, may decide to end the suspension and carry out the sentence.

  4. says

They said they wanted to “discuss” the alleged immorality with her.
No “discussion” appears to have taken place.
What if the killing occurred as a result of hysteria over a false rumour? No doubt the men will be punished; if the rumour was proved to be false, I wonder if the sentence they receive would be higher, or the same?

As Nonie Darwrish explained in the book NOW THEY CALL ME INFIDEL on page 72 she wrote “A female in a Muslim family dosen’t have to be guilty of committing an infidelity to be muredered in an ‘honor killing.’ All it takes is a rumor of one to have a girl die. That says something in in itself about love and marcy in an Islamic society.” Likewise, Brigitte Gabriel in her book THEY MUST BE STOPPED on page 175 exposed the heinous, cruel and brutal Islamic practice of “honor killing” when she wrote “Honor killings are executed by slitt5ing the victims throat. hatching them , stabbing, burning them to death, decapition, bulluts to the head and chest, or by any other means imaginable.” Thus are the cold blooded murderous, viscious fruits of Islam.
It’s there very interesting to note that Jesus did teach “By their fruits ye shall know them.” Matthew 7:20. [KJV]

Yeah, Champ, in islam murder, torture, and camel pee is the cure for whatever ails you, and if it’s a really tough ailment, dismemberment and beheading will do.

And for a yet another new low in islam, I just read of a new recruiting tool, gaggingly sick, one just gets worse than the next:

    http://themuslimissue.wordpress.com/2012/11/08/story-from-the-trenches-al-qaeda-baked-and-served-their-own-children/

But then I do recall stories of the Shinto Bushid soldiers serving Americans to Americans, in connection with this story, which relates some interesting comparisons:

So true, Miriam ..yes, we can add rape and sex with children to the list of sins approved by allah. The list is endless, really.

    ………………

    Very, very true, DDA.

Very often these women are killed for nothing more than a rumor.

And when you throw in all the other ‘crimes’ of “Zina””pre-marital relations, just talking to a boy, merely resisting forced marriage”you realize that the Muslim focus on “adultery” is often anything but.

Apparently, Kinana of Khaybar has explained it all away. No need for us to be concerned about LO. She must be perfectly in her right mind about her Muslim family, and we have the uncertainty of statistics to back it up. So she can sleep easy.

How wonderful that Kinana of Khaybar can lay her concerns to rest so completely with his statistics.

Gunung isn’t the one minimizing the danger of Islamic honor killings — Kinana of Khaybar and Rich are; but no JWers seem to care, other than me.
