If JW readers don't already know, or don't read French, "peds," refers to homosexuals. It's short for,"pédale," a slang term. You might also read or hear the word "tapette," another slang term along the same line.

Years ago when I was more involved on an international level with gay/lesbian rights; I was aware of an unspoken bias on the part of the leftist media.

In the 1980s and up to the early 1990s; the leftist media was sympathetic to gay rights issues and anti-gay persecution only if the "right countries" were the "bad guys." During the era I refer; the Soviet Union and the marxist nations of the Eastern Bloc and third world were media darlings. These communist nations could do no wrong.

Castro's Cuba threw gays into prisons to rot, marxist revolutionary dictatorships in Africa would sexually mutilate gay men, and lives of misery were the lot for gay men and lesbians in VietNam, Mainland "Red" China, USSR and its satellite states.

The leftist media would eagerly listen to discrimination and atrocities against gays in any nation that hadn't gone "red." This was an issue.

If a 1980s gay parades in Australia had hecklers throw rocks; lesbians in Britain unhappy with their portrayal on BBC TV or Brazilian gays and transvestites concerned about the lack of AIDS services in Rio... this was news the media would howl about.

Yet when gays would be arrested in the night by the KGB and sent to gulags to "disappear" or lesbians would have their organization HQs be ransacked and staff beaten by marxist foot soldiers... well, you could hear crickets with the silence.

Dying gay AIDS patients in Rio DeJaneiro who could not access a hospital room or assaults at Sydney gay parades were indeed issues that many gays and lesbians would want to know about circa the 1980s. However, those of us in the more international activism were aware that the treatment of gays in communist nations WAS ALSO A CONCERN of the gay community.

When comparing apples and oranges... you don't ignore the apples (Rio AIDS patients, attacks at gay parades, etc)... but you also don't focus only on apples when you have all these oranges (Soviet gulags and Marxist Cuban prisons for gays).

Back then when the Soviets and their ilk were the darlings of the media... the leftists would even condemn and report on how ISLAMIC nations and regions of the world would persecute gays.

Times have changed. Communism is almost extinct. Without the Soviet behemoth to support them, 3rd world dictatorships who committed atrocities against gays were then miraculously now available to be criticized in the main stream left leaning media for their anti-gay stances.

However, things change they also stay the same. Remember that the left media would be vocal about Islamic anti-gay atrocities when the USSR was still around? With no USSR and a free Eastern Bloc... the left media embraced Islam as the "new idealogy" that could not be criticized in left media. Where there were once countless Marxist apologists in the left media... there are now ISLAMIC APOLOGISTS who will silence anything that doesn't agree that Islamism equals utopia on Earth.

Now, it is the Islamic world and Islamic enclaves whose anti-gay actions are ignored by the media. Yet as someone who still monitors the international gay human rights scene... Islamic based atrocities, attacks and violence against gays, lesbians, bisexuals and trans people are increasing at an alarming rate.

The leftist media is silent about this. Sadder still; I know too many gays and lesbians who will ignore the Islamic atrocities against us. These gays are "dhimmis" if there ever were any. They will jump on the bandwagon about some non-issue while ignoring the hangings, beheadings, genital mutiliations, skinning alive, gang rapes, harsh imprisonments and outright executions that take place against gays in the Islamic world.

I greatly appreciate Jihad Watch and Atlas Shrugs sites for reporting Islamic atrocities against homosexuals.

Ahhh, the warm, comradely solidarity between two branches of the MultieCultie alliance!

Perhaps small cameras should be put in strategic places, so these thugs can in future be recorded in their brutal criminal acts, then rounded up and thrown in jail. Better yet, fly them over Saudi airspace, put a parachute on them, and dump 'em out. But first tattoo "Muhammad was a ped" on their foreheads.
