Robert Spencer: Obama Throws Israel to the Wolves

PJMediaBannerSpencer.jpg

And so soon after he posed as a passionate and convinced Zionist during his third debate with Romney. Over at PJ Media I discuss the glee among Israel's enemies:

Barack Obama pressured Israel to accept the current ceasefire agreement with Hamas that was devised by Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood President Mohammed Morsi, and Israel’s worst enemies are thrilled.

Hamas declared November 22, the day the truce went into effect, a “national holiday of victory.” Israel National News reported that “mosques in Gaza City blared through their loudspeakers: ‘Allahu Akbar (G-d is great), dear people of Gaza, you won. You have broken the arrogance of the Jews.’”

A Hamas sheikh, preaching at the funeral of one of those killed in Gaza, declared that Hamas had just won a great victory, one that would prove to be “the first nail in the coffin of Israel.” The Financial Times noted that “on Friday, the midday prayers were dominated by declarations of victory, with some preachers drawing a line between the latest conflict and the Prophet Mohammed’s victory over the infidels.”

Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad crowed: “Zionists have reached the dead point and have no other alternative but officially recognizing and bowing to the absolute right of the Palestinian nation.” The speaker of Iran’s Parliament, Ali Larijani, agreed, saying: “The victory of Gaza highlights the necessity to continue resistance and Jihad against the Zionist regime. With their patience and perseverance, the people of Gaza showed that the only way to confront the Zionist regime is Jihad and resistance.” The secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Saeed Jalili, said that “accepting defeat after eight days means that the Zionist regime is becoming increasingly weak,” and that the “counter-resistance is getting stronger.”

Meanwhile, Moussa Abu Marzouk, Hamas chief Khaled Mashaal’s deputy, has already stated obliquely that Hamas has no intention of keeping to the terms of the ceasefire anyway. Marzouk rejected calls for Hamas to stop amassing weapons, saying: “These weapons protected us and there is no way to stop obtaining and manufacturing them.”

Yet the truce terms require, according to the Voice of America, “‘all Palestinian factions’ to stop all hostilities toward Israel from Gaza, including rocket fire and attacks along the Gaza-Israel border.” So if the truce forbids them to fire upon Israel, what is Hamas going to do with all these weapons? Or is Marzouk signaling that Hamas has no intention of keeping the truce at all?

For its part, Islamic Jihad was eager to emphasize that the jihad against Israel would go on. “The battle with the enemy has not ended,” a masked jihadist from the group maintained. “Our choice in fighting and getting weapons to defend our people is going on.”

Another indication that the jihad against Israel will flare up again soon enough came from the imprisoned Saudi Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Fahd, who praised the jihad bombings in Riyadh in 2003 and was jailed shortly thereafter. In a fatwa posted last week on a jihadi website, al-Fahd declared, according to the Middle East Media Research Institute, that “the Jews are the leaders of the infidels and the greatest enemies of Islam and the Muslims in the present age,” and that therefore Muslims who waged jihad warfare against Jews everywhere would be discharging “one of the most important duties and greatest virtues.” Al-Fahd added that “any guarantees of protection granted them by tyrannical and infidel governments are meaningless, especially when the Jews are attacking Muslims as they please.”

Al-Fahd may be in prison, but his view of the jihad against Israel as a religious obligation incumbent on every Muslim is not by any means restricted to him alone. So many Muslims worldwide share it that even in far-off Indonesia, a Muslim group last week began offering “jihad registration forms” to those believers who wished to wage jihad against Israel.

Muslim Brotherhood leader Muhammad Badie, meanwhile, reminded the world that “jihad is obligatory” for Muslims, and dubbed truces with Israel a “game of grand deception.”

Indeed. There is more.

Supplying them with the "Iron Dome" missile defense counts as "Throwing them to the wolves"?

$3.1 billion in military aid in FY2013 is "Throwing them to the wolves"?

Iron Dome was created and is being produced by Rafael Defense in Israel. US has nothing to do with it. $3bn of "aid" is a myth, it's no aid at all. First of all, the value of the Israeli R&D and testing greatly exceeds that amount. Second, every penny of that "aid" must be spent in US, thus serving as an indirect subsidy to US defense industry. Third, there are a lot of indirect strings attached that are designed to keep Israel's hands tied with regards to developing and competing with US in the world arms market. And, in addition, Israel is not a turd world country which relies on US aid to survive. This whole "aid" thing is bogus, and one-sidedly beneficial to US. Israel would be better off without it.

It's not unusual for this psychotic government to work in opposing directions to itself... so It talks peace while preparing for war...It supports Israel while it sinks Israel, it fights Islam while it protects Islam...It fights poverty while creating poverty...Don't blame me, I voted for Roseanne Barr...Well, I didn't really, but I might as well have...

Funding decisions are made by the Congress. Obama has nothing to do with it. On the contrary, if it was up to that sneaky bastard and he was sure he has his back covered he would have canceled it. This man is a treasonous, lying, shameless coward. Think Benghazi. He betrayed and threw Americans to the wolves. Would he think twice about betraying the Jews?

The leaders of the State of Israel would do well not to trust anythings the leaders of Hamas might promise in any so called "talks" about a truce. For in any dialogue the Hamas heads would be very disingenous and would only dissimulate. This is because the will engage in the practice of the Islamic doctrine of Taqiyya. Which is the use of deception with non-Muslims for what they believe to be the good of Islam. So it's best for the heads of State of Israel to non-trust the characters of Hamas when they claim the they have peaceful intentions. Furthermore it would be a good idea for the leaders of Israel to heed the wisdom of the Bible when it come to trusting the peaceful claims of the heads of Hamas. For it is written "Such men do violence to those at peace with them and break their promised word; their speech is smoother then butter but their thoughts are of war." Psalm 55:20,21. [NEB]

In the past couple of years, the US had put aroung $900 million into the Iron Dome project.

And $3.1 billion in military aid is still $3.1 billion that Israel does not need to spend to equip and train the IDF.

so where are you going with this? so we should throw the Israelis under the bus? i am not getting what you are saying. can you please elaborate? i am not very smart and perhaps I am missing some thing here.

Yes, and one of the conditions of any military joint funding is that the donor gets to share the military technology. The US will benefit from a battle tested Iron Dome system that just gets better and better, thanks to Israeli brainpower and creativity!

Don't think for a moment that Israel is anything like the Islamic, sharia-shackled dustbowls that stick out a hand for US dollars and give nothing back!

Caliph Barook Ohamad is the Enemy of Mankind.

And islam hates the Jews (and all non-moslems) simply because Muhammad Said So!

It's funny how the people on the right fault Obama and the US for not sufficiently supporting Isreal while the people on the left condemn him for supporting Israel and and aggravating the plight of the Palestinians.
Of course, the Jwatch crowd woulld find it hard to comprehend the viewpoint of those on the left. I wonder whether that stems from a lack of accurate information about the history of the conflict or is simply a bias against their perception of the Obama administration's mideast policy.
For anyone interested in reading what
"leftist" critics of Obama and the US say, here are a few collected articles on the Israeli Palestinian war and the evil US policy of unswerving support for Israel. Perhaps the truth is somewhere in the middle...

Occupied Israel (I will not call it 'palestine') is nothing but a collection of bludgewits, antagonizers and wannabe jihadis.
If they keep pushing--and they will--Canada will have no choice but to send troops to aid and support Israel.
Of course the UN will try to co-opt our troops for UN 'Peacekeeping' and then start giving our troops orders.

Which won't work because NO Un official is in chain-of-command and thus no Canadian Military man is under any obligation to listen.

I wonder how the O.I parasites would like facing our troops...???
Consider Canada's war record.

As ever, you offer up low-grade nonsense without merit or meaning. And your suggested source has about as much cred as you do: NONE.

You and givemedonuts should get to know each other, you both specialize in fuzzy and weak thinking.

Another intelligent reply....

Not at all. For some people—pious Muslims, hard leftists, and miscellaneous antisemites in particular—anything short of denouncing Israel outright, declaring war on her, and doing everything possible to destroy her will be seen as giving Israel too much support.

Not even Obama can openly go so far without a lot of political fallout. Most Americans do support Israel's right to exist.

So, what's your point?

Graven, my point is that those on the left criticize OBama for being too supportive of Israel while those on the right criticize him for not supporting Israel enough. I thought my point was pretty clear.

You say that "For some people—pious Muslims, hard leftists, and miscellaneous antisemites in particular—anything short of denouncing Israel outright, declaring war on her, and doing everything possible to destroy her will be seen as giving Israel too much support."

Do you contend that eveyone that opposes Israel's policies vis a vis the Palestinians, in particular the continuing construction of settlements on the west bank land designated by the UN Partiton Plan as the Palestinian state's rightful territory, that every such person is a "pious Muslim, a hard leftist or an anti-semite?" Because if you do over half the population of Israel is a pious Muslim, hard leftist or anti-semite inasmuch as more than half the Israelis favor a 2 state solution and a like number oppose such continued settlement construction.
