Russia: Convert to Islam kissed her daughter goodbye and blew herself up at home of Muslim cleric who denounced violence

Aminat Kurbanova's conversion to Islam was fatal for her and seven others. The official dogma in the West is that those who do violence in the name of Islam misunderstand its peaceful teachings. Yet no Muslim organization anywhere in the West has any program to teach against the understanding of Islam that led Aminat Kurbanova to commit mass murder. What's more, she probably chose to murder Sheikh Said Atsayev and those with him because he preached against violent Islam -- which fact is not an encouragement for Muslim reformers.

Brought up as an Orthodox Christian by her mother, Aminat Kurbanova looked a picture of happiness at her wedding nine years ago - marrying the man with whom she had fallen in love at drama school.
But she converted to Islam in 2007 and three months ago walked into the house of a Muslim cleric in Dagestan, Russia, wearing a 3lb bomb, and blew herself up - killing eight people including her.

Once a stage actress, the 29-year-old mother had transformed into a Muslim suicide bomber. The blast shocked Russia but her mother Vera Saprighina insists she was ‘a kind person, not a monster’.

Of course.

Kurbanova was brought up in Makhachkala, Dagestan, and gained top marks at the city’s arts and drama college - where she met her future husband Marat Kurbanov, reported the Sunday Times.
The couple married in 2003 and she gave birth to a daughter, Malika, two years later. In 2006 the couple were introduced to Islam by Marat’s brother Rustam - and Kurbanov converted a year later.

‘She said she had finally found the right religion for her,’ her mother Vera Saprighina told the Sunday Times. ‘Before long, both left the theatre because dancing and acting are considered un-Islamic.’

But Rustam was killed in a police house raid on suspected militants in 2008. It shocked the couple. Marat left home, never to come back, and is thought to have joined militants to avenge the death.

However 12 months later, Marat also died when police opened fire on a car that did not stop at a checkpoint - and Kurbanova ‘often said she wished she had died with him’, Ms Saprighina stated....

Kurbanova started to earn money as an Islamic dress seamstress and became more religious. She began to be watched by security services, who allegedly searched her flat and questioned her after the death of her husband....

Kurbanova walked into the home of Sheikh Said Atsayev, 74, after kissing her daughter goodbye and blew herself up with a steel-bolt bomb, killing seven others - including the cleric himself and a 12-year-old boy who was there with his father....

At least 12 religious leaders have been killed over the last two years in Dagestan - allegedly by militants angry that they are too friendly with the authorities. Atsayev could have been targeted because he spoke against violent Islam....

No other religion on earth converts pious and dedicated followers into remorseless mass murderers. None. Had this woman not converted to Islam, she would probably have joined a convent or spent a life in quiet, meditative reflection. Instead, she murdered a dozen people in a most gruesome and violent manner. She was well aware that she was inflicting horrific pain and death on people who meant her no personal harm, yet Islam gave her the motivation to commit this act.

To my knowledge, Islam is utterly unique in this respect. There are no monastaries or convents in Islam. Only mobs rioting after their Friday 'prayers', armies of Jihad terrorists, and baby factories for future holy warriors gaming the refugee and immigrant systems of all Western nations.

Murderous death cults have been around for centuries and have been dealt with accordingly by state authorities. What is horrifying about Islam in this era is the culpability of Western state institutions in directly aiding and abeting the spread of this death cult within their territories against the clearly stated wishes of their own people. They are knowingly and with eyes open planting the seeds of their own destruction. Why?

Do you watch Bones?

On the latest episode a devout Muslim on the show expressed total solidarity with the US and total outrage with people who had "highjacked" his religion to engage in terrorist violence, specifically on 9/11.

So that settles it, right?

But the only Muslim living in the US I personally know is non-devout, and he frankly said he was convinced we had it coming.

Several others whom I knew years ago but have since left the country, also non-devout, were plainly on the Palestinian side then and would doubtless have felt the same.

That attitude toward the US is not dependent on religion, however.

A Christian Palestinian I knew years ago who was here as a student from Lebanon was entirely on the Palestinian side and entirely opposed even to the existence of Israel.

Come to that, the few other non-Muslims of foreign origin in the US that I know or have know have or had a similarly anti-American attitude.

And in any case the attitude of a person, Muslim or not, toward the US and terrorist attacks against it is not an indicator of that person's attitude toward the rise or domination of Islamism in Egypt, Turkey, Libya, or elsewhere.

The non-devout are, after all, non-devout and maybe, just as you and Bill Maher say, are not Islamists because they are bad Muslims.

Come to that, good Muslims should and likely do scare the pants off them.

And I can't imagine that Christian Palestinian I mentioned approving the rise of the Islamists to power.

I think the story got the brother's name wrong. It wasn't Rustam, it was Rasputin.

I was less shocked by the article (not exactly atypical) than by the comments in the Daily Mail. Muslims saying Islam forbids suicide, or that the media distorts Islam; atheists galore blaming "religion"; shall I go on? People are NOT LEARNING, and Muslims are still trotting out lies. There is a LONG WAY to go.

Including here at JW. Even duh_swami, long-time JW reader, thinks there are Muslims who don't enable deadly Islam. I'm not surprised that a nonce-commenter like "philovaihinger" believes that, but it disheartens to see regulars purvey that unhelpful theory for which we have insufficient proof.

Andrew Bostom recently unearthed a fascinating report from anthropologist Evans-Pritchard who studied North African and Middle Eastern cultures, and this observation of his comes from 1949:

It would [also] be a questionable judgment to assert that the Bedouin of Cyrenaica are not religious because they do not pay the same attention to outward ritual as do townspeople and peasants, for piety and holiness, as we have often been admonished, are not the same…Perhaps the Bedouin make up for their shortcomings by their enthusiasm for the jihad, holy war against unbelievers. So you see, if certain Jihad Watchers like duh swami regarded these Bedouin Muslims from the outside (and how else does one regard, and assess, Muslims?), he would have concluded they were "Muslims-in-name-only" because they don't pray and don't go to mosque, etc. But these Bedouins have learned, likely as ALL Muslims do, that Jihad is the #1 priority -- whether directly, by strapping on bombs, or indirectly, by letting your nephew Rasheed use the garage for his late-night meetings with his nice young Muslim friends, and by letting Rasheed receive lots of different UPS packages in the mail over 2 years, each box filled with different parts of a cocktail...
