Starving Gazans snap up new iPhones, despite inflated prices

Yet another story documenting the unparalleled suffering of those condemned to live in the world’s largest concentration camp. “New iPhones snapped up in Gaza despite high prices, poverty,” from Reuters, October 15 (thanks to Tom):

(Reuters) – Apple’s new iPhone 5 is selling well in the Gaza Strip despite inflated prices, reaching the Palestinian enclave via smuggling tunnels even before high-tech hub Israel next door.

The cutting edge smart phone is being snapped up for almost double what it costs in the United States, its price jacked up by middlemen on its circuitous delivery route from Dubai via tunnels linking the blockaded territory with Egypt.

The iPhone 5 will not be available until December from mobile operators in tech-mad Israel, which along with Egypt maintains a partial blockade of Gaza to prevent the entry of anything that could be used for military purposes.

But the phones have been available for a couple of weeks in Gaza and they were on display on Monday in three independent mobile stores in a one-block radius in downtown Gaza City.

Prices ranged from 4,500 Israeli shekels ($1,170) for the 16 gigabyte model to 5,700 ($1,480) for 64 gb.

“I ordered 30 and I’ve sold 20 so far,” said one dealer. “We can order as many as we want. But most people are waiting for the price to go down. They’re pretty expensive.”

The iPhone 5, launched last month, sells for $650 and $850 in the 16 and 64 gigabyte versions in the United States….

For the 1.6 million Palestinians living in Gaza, transport and handling costs for all kinds of imports are inflated by bribes paid in Egypt to facilitate the smuggling, and Hamas adds sales tax at its end of the supply chain….

    Dear Jihad Watch readers:

The Jordanian Arabs who call themselves Fakestinians area parasites- Israel again and again tries to help these people with their economy, infrastructure, etc.

Israel does its best to cooperate with humanitarian, medical and education assistance.

So, if the parasites have trouble with their economy or face hardships… its because they wage terror against Israel… the Fakestinians have literally bitten the hand that feeds them.

Yet, the Western media continues to protray the parasitic Fakestianians as victims. Well, even with the parasites war against the hand that feeds them this region is apparently more prosperous than other parts of the muslim world.

Its not just these techno-gadgets… the Fakestianians are much more prosperous than the media portrays.

Yet the Fakestianians are poor “victims.”

    Dear Reuters

whenever I read an article like yours, this is what I do.

I mentally retranslate certain terms for accuracy.

Gaza is not full of ‘Palestinians’.

It is full of Levantine and Egyptian Arab Muslims. Many of them, indeed, hail from Egypt originally (as one of their number recently openly declared):

#3389 – Hamas Minister of the Interior and of National Security Fathi Hammad Slams Egypt over Fuel Shortage in Gaza Strip, and Says:

“Half of the Palestinians Are Egyptians and the Other Half Are Saudis”

    Al-Hekma TV (Egypt) – March 23, 2012 – 03:09

    March 23, 2012

‘Hamas Minister of the Interior and of National Security Fathi Hammad Slams Egypt over Fuel Shortage in Gaza Strip, and Says: “Half of the Palestinians Are Egyptians and the Other Half Are Saudis”

“…Allah be praised, we all have Arab roots, and every Palestinian, in Gaza and throughout Palestine, can prove his Arab roots – whether from Saudi Arabia, from Yemen, or anywhere. We have blood ties. So where is your affection and mercy?

“Personally, half my family is Egyptian. We are all like that.

“**More than 30 families in the Gaza Strip are called Al-Masri [“Egyptian”].** {my emphasis – dda}.

    And then there’s this:

Azmi Bishara: “There Is No Palestinian Nation”

The Christian community is small, persecuted, heavily dhimmified and terrified, eking out a precarious existence.

So: here are the relevant portions of this latest Reuters article, re-worded:

    “the Palestinian enclave”

Correction: ‘the ‘Palestinian’ Arab Muslim enclave’.

“For the 1.6 million Palestinians living in Gaza…”.

Correction: “for the 1.6 million Arab Muslims in Gaza”.

Hey now I can’t afford an iphone or an expensive new vehicle as so many in Gaza. Then again I have to pay for my own food and accommodation.
