Video: Robert Spencer: Introduction to the Qur'an

Excellent much-needed instruction on the Koran. Essential viewing for everyone.

Robert eloquently talks about Sura 5, Vers 32. This is it:

"For that cause We decreed for the Children of Israel that whosoever killeth a human being for other than manslaughter or corruption in the earth, it shall be as if he had killed all mankind, and whoso saveth the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind. Our messengers came unto them of old with clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty), but afterwards lo! many of them became prodigals in the earth. (32) The only reward of those who make war upon Allah and His messenger and strive after corruption in the land will be that they will be killed or crucified, or have their hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, or will be expelled out of the land. Such will be their degradation in the world, and in the Hereafter theirs will be an awful doom; (33) Save those who repent before ye overpower them. For know that Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. "

This is what is originally written in the Talmud:

"FOR THUS WE FIND IN THE CASE OF CAIN, WHO KILLED HIS BROTHER, THAT IT IS WRITTEN: THE BLOODS OF THY BROTHER CRY UNTO ME:37 NOT THE BLOOD OF THY BROTHER, BUT THE BLOODS OF THY BROTHER, IS SAID — i.e., HIS BLOOD AND THE BLOOD OF HIS [POTENTIAL] DESCENDANTS. (ALTERNATIVELY, THE BLOODS OF THY BROTHER, TEACHES THAT HIS BLOOD WAS SPLASHED OVER TREES AND STONES.)38 FOR THIS REASON WAS MAN CREATED ALONE, TO TEACH THEE THAT WHOSOEVER DESTROYS A SINGLE SOUL OF ISRAEL,39 SCRIPTURE IMPUTES [GUILT] TO HIM AS THOUGH HE HAD DESTROYED A COMPLETE WORLD; AND WHOSOEVER PRESERVES A SINGLE SOUL OF ISRAEL, SCRIPTURE ASCRIBES [MERIT] TO HIM AS THOUGH HE HAD PRESERVED A COMPLETE WORLD.40... "

I don't like both scriptures. The talmud appears to be racist, because the injunction for protecting people is restricted to the souls of Israel, i.e. Jews, alone. The quran introduces exceptions, in particular spreading corruption in the land, which completely nullifies this rule, since preaching some other belief than Islam can be considered as spreading corruption on the earth...

A very informative program about the Qur'an. I have recently published a book entitled Muhammad and the Birth of Islamic Supremacism: The War With the Jews 622-628 A.D. I used the Qur'an extensively in explaining Muhammad's leadership in the Battle of Badr, the exile of the Jewish Banu Qaynuqa and Banu Nadir tribes, the Battle of Uhud, the beheading of the Jewish Banu Qurayza men and enslavement of their women and children, the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, the defeat of the Khaybar Jews, and the defeat of the Fadak Jews, the Wadi al-Qura Jews and the Taima Jews. Muhammad certainly carried out the commands of Allah as recorded in the Qur'an, plus, and this is even more startling, Allah gloats about how he defeated the Quraysh, and how he created terror in the hearts of the Jews.
I'm looking forward to Robert Spencer's series on the Qur'an. There is much to be learned about Islam by reading the Qur'an.

God Bless you for all that you give to so many.I'm a listener to Michael Savage and on his web site there was a posting from Jihad Watch,it was awesome, and that there will be many new people who will be drawn to Jihad Watch.

This is one of the greatest Spencer videos I’ve seen in a long time. I love Spencer and Geller’s activism, and support it fully, but Spencer is really at his best when he’s in scholarship mode. This video is quintessentially professorial. This is one of those videos that really needs to go viral. Send it to anyone you know who is ignorant when it comes to this subject. I love this weekly show, and can’t wait to see the next one.

Ok, now I’ll say something controversial. Robert said in the program:

“The fashionable philosophy of Deconstructionism teaches that written words do not have any meaning other than what is given to them by the reader.”

I understand that Robert was speaking to a general audience -- probably mostly newbies -- and he was trying to keep things simple, and was trying to focus on language in the most practical sense. While I’m sure he knows better than I do the ABN audience, he probably shouldn’t have brought up Deconstructionism at all. It will only confuse them.

Having said that: Folks; fellow counter-jihadists, at some point we’re going to have to argue the counter-jihad from a Post-Modern standpoint. It can’t be avoided. Just tuck that away in your heads and start planning it out now. Like it or not, Post-Modernism isn’t going away, and, I would argue, is perfectly compatible with Christianity and Catholicism. I want Islam defeated utterly. And this is going to be one of the intellectual fronts. In short, we need to vastly amplify Samuel Huntington.

You mentioned Quran published by groups attempting to mislead readers. My copy is published by the "Book of Signs Foundation"2006. Do you have any reason to believe this particular group is propagandizing?

I notice in the forward an explanation of the idea that this is a "translation of the Quran", it is "NOT THE QURAN" (caps in the original) because it is not in Arabic. As you explained very helpfully.
