DHS seizes 35,000 rubber ducks in Santa suits, lets Muslim bomber involved in "terrorism-related activity" stay in country

Priorities. "35,000 rubber ducks in Santa, reindeer outfits seized at L.A. port," from the Los Angeles Times, December 7:

They may have had better luck on Santa’s sleigh, but more than 35,000 holiday-themed rubber ducks from China were detained by U.S. Customs officials at the Port of Los Angeles.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized the ducks -- dressed as snowmen, gingerbread men, penguins and reindeer -- which were valued at $18,522, after determining they contained the chemical phthalate in excess of the limit which may be harmful to children.

Phthalates are used to make vinyl and other plastics soft and flexible, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said in a statement. Consumer officials prohibit the sale, distribution and import of any child's toy or child care item that contains concentrations of more than 0.1% of phthalate....

Meanwhile: "Arizona bomber was rejected for citizenship by Homeland Security for 'terrorism-related activity," by Patrick Poole for PJ Media, December 6:

Back on Sunday I broke the news here at PJ Media of the arrest of Abdullatif Aldosary in connection of the bombing of a Social Security Administration office in Casa Grande, Arizona last Friday morning....
But a bombshell report today based on information obtained by Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ), who had received a request from Aldosary in November 2011 for assistance in obtaining a “green card”.

According to today’s news report, the Department of Homeland Security responded to Gosar’s request on behalf of Aldosary last year by saying that he was ineligible for a change in status because of “terrorism-related grounds of inadmissibility”:

Gosar said DHS responded by saying Aldosary was not eligible for a permanent change to citizenship “pursuant to the terrorism-related grounds of inadmissibility, and that “individuals who engage in terrorism-related activity … are barred from receiving various immigration benefits.”...
In light of the Casa Grande bombing, Gosar questioned why Aldosary was not detained and processed for deportation in November 2011, after it was determined he had engaged in terrorism-related activity.

We don't know why Aldosary wasn't deported, despite his involvement in "terrorism-related activity." But he wasn't. And now he has carried out a jihad bombing in Arizona. But don't be concerned: at least you're safe from rubber ducks.

As for the "rubber" ducks, I have no major problem with the DHS seizing them as dangerous. China, in its campaign of economic warfare against the West, has been dumping dangerous and faulty products into our markets for years now. With wimpy leaders like Obama, Cameron, Harper, etc., it is no surprise that this nonsense is allowed to continue. The underlying cause is I suspect related to their softness regarding Islam and jihad. Across a range of issues, the West seems to be in some kind of suicidal stupor.

All plastic out gasses...That's the odd smell you may notice when you walk into a big mart full of plastic...The softer the plastic, the more out gassing...The plastic diaper cover that moms used to use over cloth diapers was found to cause serious conditions to baby's due to the plastic softening chemicals...
I doubt if one duck out gasses enough to be harmful, but it isn't good if baby chews on it...Maybe age 4 or older would be ok, but not under 3 at least...I think the gov is over reacting a bit, but what's new about that?...

Especially in a system like China's, where there is so little freedom to protest and criticize, today's industrial setting produces a growing variety and quantity of irresponsibly used substances that in people and especially in children act as poisons. So I agree with you.

Well, now that I'm a grandfather and have been spat up on and pi$$ed on by my older son's daughter,I'm all for keeping kids safe.

As for the terrorist sympathizer, my hunch is he advocates a lot of nasty stuff but hasn't actually done something for which he may be deported. After all, First Amendment rights are enjoyed by LPR's, too. But let's just watch and see if this guy doesn't get nabbed for something a few years from now.

The one burning question... "WHY?" is this apparently known terrorist even in the Country????

We have to subject ourselves as AMERICANS to the indignities at the airport, remove your shoes, take off your belt, drop your trowsers... all for TSA/DHS subjugation. Yet they let these terrorist in the front door, and then play footsy with them with their paperwork to stay... HOW & WHY DID THIS TERRORIST GET INTO THE COUNTRY IN THE FIRST PLACE...!? Call a TERRORIST what he is... and shout to the world who he represents... muslim jihad! Then Bar-The-Door, and keep them out...! Maybe then we can go through an airport check point wearing our shoes again?

With respect, I believe some posters here may be somewhat missing the point. *no one* is saying that we shouldn't be concerned about unsafe imports or our children's health—just that focusing on waylaying shipments of rubber duckies while allowing Jihadists involved in known terrorist activities to remain in the country is simply madness, and a ludicrous misplacing of priorities.

Ideally, I'd like to see us do everything possible to keep our citizens—especially our children—safe.

But does anyone believe we face a greater danger from the sale of sub-par merchandise than we do from Jihadists' setting off IEDs?

Personally, if we have to choose, I'd rather we put our limited resources into protecting us form Jihad terrorists than from defective rubber duckies.

gravenimage, Great to see someone address that point.I beleive we can save so much money by dumping DHS.That we can again support NASA.
I can't even imagine the salarys they draw. I do beleive there are good agents,but they have to be protected if they speak out. as we have already seen whats happen to Border agents.
