Former Marine says he burned Ohio mosque because "every day you turn on the TV, you see Muslims trying to kill Americans"

There is no excuse for what Randy Linn did. He is a criminal, and he richly deserves his twenty-year prison term. This incident is being used, of course, as part of ongoing efforts to discredit the anti-jihad movement, but it no more does that than the murdering thug John Brown's massacres discredited the anti-slavery movement.

What is noteworthy here is his explanation of his motive: "Every day you turn on the TV, you see Muslims trying to kill Americans." Hamas-linked CAIR will try to use this to intimidate the mainstream media into making sure that you don't see Muslims trying to kill Americans when you turn on your TV, for such incidents will be ignored and whitewashed. Their response should be to work for Islamic reform such that the texts and teachings of Islam that motivate Muslims to kill Americans are understood in a radically different way from how all too many Muslims understand them now. To do that, however, they'd have to be what they claim to be, a "moderate" civil rights organization, rather than the Hamas-linked Muslim Brotherhood front that they really are.

"Ind. Man: I Burned Ohio Mosque To Avenge Soldiers," by John Seewer for the Associated Press, December 19:

TOLEDO, Ohio -- A former Marine from Indiana admitted Wednesday that he broke into a mosque in Ohio and set fire to a prayer rug because he wanted revenge for the killings of American troops overseas.

Randy Linn pleaded guilty to hate crime charges, saying he'd become enraged after seeing images of wounded soldiers in the news.

"Every day you turn on the TV, you see Muslims trying to kill Americans," said Linn, a truck driver from St. Joe.

When asked by a federal judge whether he thought all Muslims are terrorists, he answered: "I'd say most of them are."

A deal between prosecutors and Linn, 52, calls for him to be sentenced to 20 years next April. He pleaded guilty to intentionally damaging and destroying religious property and two gun-related charges.

U.S. District Judge Jack Zouhary told Linn that his acts were an attack on all places of religion and that the mosque was a symbol of peace.

"You are no better than the terrorists or extremists you sought to punish," Zouhary said.

Prosecutors said Linn drove about two hours from his home to suburban Toledo on Sept. 30 and broke into the mosque where he poured gasoline on the rug and lit it on fire.

He estimated that he had drunk 45 beers over several hours before he decided to drive to Ohio.

Linn had several firearms in his car and carried a gun into the mosque, which was empty at the time.

U.S. Attorney Steven Dettelbach said it was fortunate no one was there. "This is a man who had intolerance in his heart and acted with hate," he said. "We can count ourselves lucky."

Linn said he went room by room to make sure no one was in the building. "I was drinking a beer while I was doing that," he said.

A sprinkler system extinguished the blaze, leaving smoke and water damage in the prayer room of the facility, whose golden dome is a landmark along Interstate 75. No one was hurt.

Members of the Islamic center have been unable to use the building and expect repairs to be finished by the end of March.

Dr. Mahjabeen Islam, president of the Islamic Center, said its members been overwhelmed by support from the community and churches. But she was saddened by Linn's statements in court.

"It was heart-wrenching to hear him speak because the ignorance and intolerance is still palpable," she said. "This is an individual who knows nothing about Islam."...

The woman told law enforcement officers that Linn had made comments complaining about the deaths of U.S. military members in the Middle East, recent attacks on U.S. embassies and Muslims' angry reactions to an anti-Islam video posted online....

'He richly deserves his twenty-year prison term'.

For burning a prayer rug?

Muslim's conspire in blowing up buildings and get far less.

Muslim's rape and groom underage girls and after being ignored for a decade receive less.

British and European churches are damaged, burned, windows smashed, their clergy intimidated and the perps aren't even pursued let alone charged.

And in a supposed secular society where a nativity scene is deemed to be the apogee of all evil what exactly is the difference between a prayer rug and a Home Base door mat?

Would a door mat burner be sentenced to twenty years?

Somehow I doubt it, yet here we are with the old leftist double standard piled on to the societal mess they've created and suddenly religion counts.

That is of course, if it's the favoured one.

mosques are centers and symbols of deceit. They are centers for war and hatred. mosques are not religious, nor symbols of peace. They are frauds, and symbols of conquest. mosques are primary in the control of members of the gang, and to prevent backsliding out of the gang as apostates. mosques, at least 80%, function as distribution centers for hate literature and texts. I assume there exist many other evil uses for mosques, as well.

After all, how very many times have we seen stories of the members charging out as a large group on Fridays, after pep rallies, time after time, to kill and otherwise plunder those they are instructed to hate and kill.

But clearly nothing the U.S.Justice system is aware of, yet. Time will likely change that, just as State Dept. learned you don't hire the enemy muslim brotherhood, to guard the hen house facility in Benghazi.

Many people, around the world, including islam members, are well aware of these truths. But clearly not the government of America, anymore. It appears much as though they have never heard or islam, over all these centuries, and have no sense of the history of America and Tripoli, nor have ever heard the Marine Hymn or Naval history.

Crazy leftist double standard, indeed.

U.S. District Judge Jack Zouhary told Linn that his acts were an attack on all places of religion and that the mosque was a symbol of peace.

Huh? How is he qualified to make that determination? What hogwash this judge indulges in...If that is a part of his decision, the decision should be overturned...

"There is no excuse for what Randy Linn did. He is a criminal, and he richly deserves his twenty-year prison term."

He doesnt deserve a 20 year sentence for burning a Mosque. Community service at most.

He made sure no one was there. In the meantime Muslim mass murderers and those that plan murder get away with a slap on the wrist?

And all he burnt was a prayer rug? 20 years for that??

And all he burnt was a prayer rug? 20 years for that??

By these standards, since every crime a muslim commits against others is a hate crime, at least an automatic 20 years should be added to all other punishment sentencing and 40 years for violence against persons, plus regular sentencing.

Further, it's about time additional punishment should be meeted out if it is a muslim on Jewish or Christian crime. It is time we change the "favored one" so called religion back to the true real religion of American history, return to the "most favored" status of the American historically favored real religious faiths of Judeo-Christianity, and other historic loving and peaceful, non hateful, non violent faiths.

This to counter the dangerous and evil trend to treat fraud islam with "favored status" before the law, ridiculously.

20 years for an intentional insulting act, where no one was hurt? That's preposterous, as is the whole label of a "hate crime".

My brief research on Jack Zouhary has him born in Toledo, and a child of Lebanese immigrants, most likely Lebanese Christians I am assuming, but I cannot confirm.

Anyway, besides this ridiculous sentence, he seems to be a deferrent Constitutionalist. Regardless, this is a dire consequence and path we are on.

I think hat he did is considered arson and they usually dish out a stiff sentence.
m

Is burning a flag on the street arson?

He estimated that he had drunk 45 beers over several hours before he decided to drive to Ohio.

Um, hello? Brand of beer? (Why do they always bury the lead?)

Didn't we just see the Obama people shield any Pakistani Special forces who were most likely involved in the Mumbai massacre from any prosecution investigation? What about no one being held in the Obama administration for accountability in the actual deaths of four Americans in Benghazi. The toll could have been thirty four if not for the brave marines that fought to their death without any support from Obama. This poor guy gets the ax for basically burning a rug. Please. Americans need to call their congressmen/women to stop this.

no. burning flag(s) on the street is a form of protest and it is protected by first amendment. Going to a church, a mosque or someone house and burning their carpets or belonging is an act of crime and here in the US is called Arson and a felony punishable by significant time in prison and honestly I like you a lot as a fellow JWer. So your comments are kind of disappointing. We are freedom loving/fighting people not criminal. This guy is a criminal. period. I hate the islamists and jihadists as much as he does, I watch the same tv and my own son is a marine who served a year in Afghanistan and I don't go shooting the Jihadists or setting their houses and mosques on fire.

Like several other commenters, I find the sentence of 20 years unbelievably harsh.
Was the building damaged? Was anyone hurt? If all that was damaged was a prayer rug, that hardly qualifies as arson. More like vandalism, with a sentence of 90 days, reduced by time already spent in custody.

setting a rug inside of a place is not recognized as vandalism. it is arson and arsonists have motives to do this. and that is what this guy is an arsonists.
m

It was arson. Seriously unacceptable. If he wanted to make a point about Islam there are better, more productive and legal ways to do it.

Arson, yes.

But many Mohammedans have committed arson in churches and against synagogues, and none of them ever got 20 years.

A "disproportionate" verdict that resembles a sharia state, with comments from a clueless judge who clearly goes beyond sympathies for Mohammedan causes.

I am with on that 100% those f...s get away with it all the times and the clueless judges or you may say PC judges, yes that too. have a great evening.
M

Linn said he went room by room to make sure no one was in the building. "I was drinking a beer while I was doing that," he said.
...............................................

Yet another indication that the even the worst "Islamophobe" is a far, far better person than your average Jihadist...

"There's no excuse for what Randy Linn did". That's the difference between conservative advocacy and the bullying that characterizes both the current Alinskyite US administration and the jihadis.

From the report:

U.S. District Judge Jack Zouhary told Linn that his acts were an attack on all places of religion and that the mosque was a symbol of peace.

I figured Judge "Jack" Zouhary (why can't these guys cut it out with the American-sounding nicknames? -- just call yourself what your mama called you, Yakoub) was either a Muslim or a Middle Eastern dhimmi ("do you think all Muslims are terrorists?" he asks, impertinently, of the defendant).

Apparently, reader "awake" has found out he's yet another compromised Lebanese Christian (of which there seem to be too many).

Judge Zouhary! In freaking Ohio!

Hey Dowse, that was the BEST TIME EVER ! ! !

Kind of reminds me of these soldiers in Afghanistan . . .

What Randy Linn got right:

'"Every day you turn on the TV, you see Muslims trying to kill Americans," said Linn, a truck driver from St. Joe.

True dat. And not only Americans...deemed-to-be-uppity daughters in Canada; Copts in Egypt;, Thai Buddhist schoolteachers in southern Thailand, Christians in Nigeria, Christians and Hindus in Pakistan, Christians in Iraq, Jewish schoolkids and a rabbi and offduty French paratroopers in France, Jews in Israel and in Bulgaria (that bus bomb), and Buddhists in Myanmar and Bangladesh. And that's just a quick top-of-my-head summary of some of the stories that have gotten through into the mainstream Australian press (and, presumably, the American press) in the past year or so, as well as being discussed in more depth here at jihadwatch - dda.

'When asked by a federal judge whether he thought all Muslims are terrorists, he answered: "I'd say most of them are."'

That's putting it broadly; but who here would disagree that the so-called Tiny Minority of Extremists seems to get bigger day by day by day, in every report out of dar al Islam?

We can't know precisely how many of those in our midst who are *recognisably* card-carrying members of the Mohammedan Mob are fully jihad-minded sharia-pushers; but it's a safe bet that it's a lot more of them than any sensible person should feel comfortable about having as neighbours. Especially when we know the results of some of those Pew polls that Kinana of Khaybar and Traeh have repeatedly cited for us, on the percentages of Muslims who hold strict sharia Views about the proper treatment of apostates, and 'blasphemers', and adulterers, and so forth.

The ones who actually carry out the achieved or attempted mass murder ghazi raids are merely the sharp end of the Ummah spear; the rest of the Mob, who approve or who enable or who 'run interference' for them by obfuscating and denying and trying to play the victim card the moment the latest murderous jihad plot or gaudy 'honor' killing is exposed to light, are the handle.

Randy Linn, former Marine, was right to identify the Mosque as the epicentre: as Gang HQ. His trained instincts told him it was the Forward Operating Base, or Fort, of an Enemy gestalt. He infiltrated it and reconnoitred it.

Here's what one ex-Muslims says about a Mosque.

An Apostate Explains Why A Mosque Is Not Only A "House of Worship

Excerpt:

'It is only when you enter a mosque do you understand fully why they are so crazy about their religion, why they want it to dominate, why they’d do anything for it.

'Mohammed is still there in every mosque and the old memories are refreshed everyday.

'The only thing you can hear clearly is the words being recited from the Koran and nothing else.

' You look around, you see people focusing on just one thing, Islam. Their respect for Mohammed, their will to sacrifice for Islam, it multiplies many fold when they come together in the mosque, and they carry that feeling with them when they walk out back into the world.

'If you ever get the chance of hearing a mullah, do listen to him closely, if you can understand.

'You will surely hear words like ‘May Allah destroy the infidels and give their possessions to us’, especially on Fridays.

'**I've heard such things many times in a mosque, more times than I can count. In some parts of the world that prayer is actually written on the front wall of the mosque.** {my emphasis - dda}.

' There used to be a custom when the mullah used to give the sermon with a sword in his hand. Many carry that tradition till this day, but some have toned it down by holding a cane instead of a sword.

'Cane or sword, it still symbolizes the absolute jihadist nature of Islam.

'The words ‘Islam is a religion of peace, harmony and tolerance’ immediately lose all meaning upon entering a mosque.

'In any mosque, there is no peace, there is no harmony and there is no tolerance for anything but Moslems and Islam.

'The Moslems whom you may have met an hour before and who said they are against the jihadis and what they’re doing, those very Moslems shout out loud, ‘death to infidels’ in their neighborhood mosques. Not just once or twice, but as a matter of course.

'The very Moslem who tells you, ‘you have a beautiful son, God bless him’ will go to the mosque and pray for the same ‘son’ to be killed so that the religion of his Allah can take over.

'Understanding what goes on inside the mosque, and what a mosque is all about, is critical to understanding what Islam is all about.

'It's just as important as understanding the Koran and Hadiths.

'The typical mosque has a power over Moslems that Osama Bin Laden or Zarqawi could never hope to have, that no mullah could ever have.

'A mosque is the house of Allah, a sacred place, where hope of victory for Moslems is always reborn. It gives them power, and the delusion that their twisted version of 'paradise', with all the virgins and palaces, is real and will be realized by all who fight the unbelievers.

'The mosque symbolizes the strength of Islam; the mosque is a physical and spiritual fortress that Moslems are sure no kuffir could ever conquer..".

What is a Mosque? An Interview with Sam Solomon

'Gordon: Greetings Mr. Solomon and thank you for consenting to this interview. Let us start with the simple question, what is a mosque and what is its basic function in the Muslim community?

'Solomon: A mosque, totally unlike a church or a synagogue, serves the function of orchestrating and mandating every aspect of “life” in a Muslim community from the religious, to the political, to the economic, to the social, to the military...a mosque is a seat of government. A mosque is a school. A mosque is a court. A mosque is a training center. A mosque is a gathering place, or social center...

Solomon argues that the model or exemplar for all mosques is the original mosque at Medina:

"...his Medina mosque, the first mosque, was a place where he gave judgments, where he decided who would be executed, where he instituted policy—domestic and military— where Jihad war strategies were designed.

Consequently, it was a storage place for arms, a military training base, and was where troops were blessed and dispatched...".

"This explains and establishes beyond doubt why arms have been found in mosques in various countries, and in different capital cities.

"In addition to the undisputed significance of the Medina mosque as the role model for all Mosques, there is also the Islamic policy of establishing strategic Mosques as beachheads with interconnected networks...".

"...a mosque, totally unlike a church or synagogue, is a “sign” and a “symbol” of the establishment of “authority”—both religious and political—not just a place of worship for its adherents..".

Finally we have non-dhimmi Hindu American, Vijay Kumar:

http://www.jihadwatch.org/2010/07/vijay-kumar-the-muslim-mosque-a-state-within-a-state.html

'Vijay Kumar: The Muslim mosque: A state within a state'.

Randy Linn, former marine, was *right* to zero in on the mosque, and to infiltrate it and reconnoitre it.

Where he went wrong was in what he chose to do *next*.

And that brings me to the next question: what *ought* Randy Linn to have done?

Breaking into the building and then, later, setting fire to the 'prayer mat', inside that building (even though he had carefully checked there was noone 'at home'), was entirely counter-productive and, as some posters above have pointed out, has merely gotten him charged with Arson, not to mention giving the Muslims a great opportunity to play the Victim card.

He should not have broken in and he should not have set a fire.

Instead, he should merely have strolled gently around the block on which the mosque stands, several times, applying his military training to observing the building, its location, potential lines of fire *from* the building, and anything at all unusual and possibly of military/ warlike importance about its configuration, materials, dimensions and location. He should have checked out any visible timetables, signs, clues as to what sorts of activities are regularly conducted.

He should have had a look to see whether there were any significant Infidel installations - e.g. a church, police station, courthouse, or school - close by. Mosques are usually built as big as the Muslims can manage (preferably bigger than any next-door Infidel building) with the intention of projecting power, and are often very much 'in the face' of the infidel Other.

I don't know whether he's ever lurked here.

If so, he would have received no encouragement to Break and Enter, or to set fires; he *would* have been encouraged to join and/ or donate to ACT for America, or Freedom Defense Initiative, or SIOA, or SION, and to engage in political lobbying of his elected representatives; and to keep an eye open for and attend rallies in support of Israel or on behalf of other victims of Jihad such as the Copts, and the Christians and Hindus of Pakistan, or even to organise such a rally.

And if there are any other veterans out there, lurking over my shoulder as I type this, who like Randy Linn, have figured out that the Ummah is Up To No Good, and who are looking with a wary eye at the local Ummah Fortress or Gang Base, aka Mosque...if you *really* want to make a statement, besides engaging in the entirely lawful resistance activities that I have just listed, you can print off either of these two articles, in poster size, and stick them to the front fence for the benefit of passers by, with a simple adhesive or tape that won't damage the paint.

Alternatively, make lots of copies of the same two items, and hand them out amongst your acquaintance, especially your fellow veterans.

http://www.jihadwatch.org/2005/12/fitzgerald-islamophobia-really.html

(This article contains a handy list of some of the most deplorable, reprehensible and revolting elements of Islam).

And a magnificent statement of defiance:

http://www.jihadwatch.org/2007/03/i-am-john-doe.html

I am John Doe

Alternatively, Mr Linn could simply have chalked on the footpath, in front of the mosque, the words 'Lan Astaslem', together with the words 'I Am a Gharqad Tree'.

'I Will Not Submit' serves notice on the Mob that you are onto them, and their little project of Total World Domination;

and the statement 'I am a Gharqad Tree' lets them know that you know all about the Sahih Bukhari and the Sahih Muslim hadith which say that when the Muslims are killing all the Jews in order to bring about the day of Judgement and final victory of Islam, the trees and stones are speaking and betraying to the Muslims the Jews hiding behind them; and it also lets them know you know that in the Sahih Muslim version, it adds that 'the tree Gharqad would not say, for it is the Tree of the Jews'. Therefore to say, 'I am a Gharqad Tree', says to any Mohammedan - 'I know you are taught to hate Jews, I know you are supposed and may well be intending to kill Jews, and **I intend to stand in between you and my Jewish friends and neighbours! **'.

Anybody who wanted to claim that the chalking of either of these slogans on a footpath in front of a mosque constituted hate speech or incitement to violence, would have their work cut out for them.

Correction to my posting above.

I was wrong to write - 'Randy Linn, former marine, was *right* to zero in on the mosque, and to infiltrate it and reconnoitre it.'

I should have written "Randy Linn, former marine, was *right* to zero in on the mosque, and to reconnoitre it."

'Infiltrate' suggested that I approved of the breaking and entering. He not being a police officer or other authorised agent with warrant in hand, his breaking in *was* a crime.

Taking a good long careful squiz at the premises from the nearby footpath, such as any interested and curious citizen may do, would have been perfectly legal, and Mr Linn with his Marine training may well have been in a position, if he had confined himself to doing *that*, to notice things the average citizen might not (at least, if he'd had the sense to go easy on the beer..).

**Don't break the law**, gentlemen; all you who may be reading this, who are retired cops, or Vietnam vets, and most especially any who have served tours of duty in Somalia, or in Iraq, or in Afghanistan, but are no longer in the Forces, and who may well have seen something of what Mosques are routinely used for, inside the dar al Islam (as torture chambers, arms-and-explosives factories, recruitment points, military command centres, sniper towers, arsenals, hidey-holes for Bad Guys, etc).

Apply your professional training in order to keep a wary and weather eye upon any mosque already in your neighbourhood. Walk your dog gently past it. Cruise past it as you drive to the supermarket. Observe, observe, observe. Take notes. Perhaps even take photos. Watch who goes in and out and when and the license plates of the cars. Watch it till you get a sense of what is the 'regular' pattern of activity; so that you can pick up the moment when something changes, when something 'funny' begins to happen. And if they hold an Open Day, or an Information Night, or 'Interfaith' Activities, that's your big and entirely legal and above-board chance to get inside and get a *really* good look, and to ask lots of innocent questions of the da'wa doctors and taqiyya-masters on duty.

If there is no mosque currently in your suburb, town or county: keep an eye open. Because you want to spot any potential mosque, *before* it gets past the 'planning approval' stage at local government level. And then you can go into *legal* battle to stop it.

For ideas on *that* - how to spot a mosque on the horizon, when it's still only a gleam in the Ummah's eye, and how to stop it - there's this redoubtable bloke from the UK, Gavin Boby, of the Law and Freedom Foundation.

Gavin Boby on CBN with Erick Stakelbeck

"He estimated that he had drunk 45 beers over several hours before he decided to drive to Ohio."

'Four to five beers' would make more sense!

"Their response should be to work for Islamic reform such that the texts and teachings of Islam that motivate Muslims to kill Americans are understood in a radically different way from how all too many Muslims understand them now."

But Islam can't be "reformed" without eviscerating the Koran and its companion texts of all their violent verses and imperatives. What you'd have left is a creed about as serious as a California cult that deifies trees or snail darters, or even the moon, for after all, Allah was originally a moon god. How else to interpret the origins of the Islamic crescent? Robert is otherwise right that CAIR will milk this conviction for all its worth in another round of PR taqiyya.

"He pleaded guilty to intentionally damaging and destroying religious property and two gun-related charges."

Was Linn charged specifically with damaging and destroying "religious property" (the prayer rug, not the building) qua instruments of faith, or just objects? Had he damaged and destroyed a coffee maker and vacuum cleaner that was in the mosque, would those have been treated as "religious property"? If it was specifically "religious property," that's bad news. There should be no distinction made between objects that can be found in a Lowe's or a mosque or church.

What part of "remember me" doesn't this sign in function understand?

U.S. District Judge Jack Zouhary told Linn that his acts were an attack on all places of religion and that the mosque was a symbol of peace.

"You are no better than the terrorists or extremists you sought to punish," Zouhary said.

What a load of shit. Mosques, by thier very nature, AREN'T symbols of peace.

I've sent this to dozens of Muslims and have yet to get a response:

If Islam is the religion of peace, where in Abdullah bin Humaid's article on jihad can I find the equivalent of “Love Thy Neighbor”? “and good will toward men”? And explain its prominence in a book that's considered second only to the Koran. Also address “jihad” as it's defined in Reliance of the Traveller and answer the same question. Also compare Humaid's “jihad” and Emmet Fox' Sermon on the Mount and tell me which one best represents a spirit of Love and compassion. Explain.

What I'm wondering is whether they "secured" the library as part of the "crime scene". If I was his Attorney I would have asked that and asked what "holy" books or books on Jihad happened to be part of that "peaceful mosque's" library.

20 years for that? In England at least, he'd have been treated much lighter for murdering somebody. Ridiculous, and you do yourself a disservice by spouting off about it so pompously, and for once, foolishly Mr. Spencer.

"The mosques are our barracks, the minarets our bayonets." Yes, very peaceful.

Muslims know that intimidation works, but when someone pushes back, even slightly, our own system comes down unnaturally hard on him, and gets applause from some who should know better.
