Hatred and Violence in the Qur'an Awareness Month: "They will be laden with the burden of Allah's anger, and poverty shall be pitched on them"

More hatred for the People of the Book -- that is, primarily Jews and Christians -- from sura 3 of the Qur'an:

You are the best nation ever brought forth to men, bidding to honour, and forbidding dishonour, and believing in God. Had the People of the Book believed, it were better for them; some of them are believers, but the most of them are ungodly.
They will not harm you, except a little hurt; and if they fight with you, they will turn on you their backs; then they will not be helped.

Abasement shall be pitched on them, wherever they are come upon, except they be in a bond of God, and a bond of the people; they will be laden with the burden of God's anger, and poverty shall be pitched on them; that, because they disbelieved in God's signs, and slew the Prophets without right; that, for that they acted rebelliously and were transgressors. (Qur'an 3:110-112)

Muslims are “the best nation ever brought forth to men,” while most Jews and Christians are “ungodly” (v. 110). However, the Muslims need not fear, for the Jews and Christians are also cowards: “they will not harm you, except a little hurt” (v. 111). They are covered with "abasement" – “except they be in a bond of God, and a bond of the people” (v. 112). This, says Qur'an commentator Maulana Bulandshahri, refers to the non-Muslims’ agreeing “to pay the atonement (Jizya) to the Muslim state, in which case they will be accorded the rights of a Dhimmi.” These rights are not equal to the rights of Muslims: the dhimmis must accept subservience and second-class status (cf. Qur'an 9:29) in exchange for a guarantee of protection – as long as they do not offend the Muslims. Their payment of this special tax ensures that, as this passage puts it, "poverty shall be pitched on them."

So the Muslims must deny equality of rights to Jews and Christians in the Islamic state, and charge them a special tax from which the Muslims are exempt, so as to make sure those Jews and Christians live in poverty, as part of their punishment from Allah, for they "slew the Prophets without right; that, for that they acted rebelliously and were transgressors." In other words, the Qur'an is commanding here that Muslims act hatefully toward Jews and Christians, as part of their duty before Allah.

the Qur'an is commanding here that Muslims act hatefully toward Jews and Christians, as part of their duty before Allah.

Quran 5:14 has Allah putting a curse on Christians until judgement day, for forgetting part of the message...
These commandments have no expiration date, since no one knows just exactly when judgement day is...That means the jihad against Christians and Jews will continue, non stop, into the distant future...At least if Allah has his way...and he always does...

The ubiquity and persistence of religious notion are vestigial indicators of our simian origin (Why, there's simply always gotta be a head monkey!) and a manifested proof that humankind is, as a species, simply too stupid to survive the consequences of its own compulsive behaviors.

We are doing our best to create a future where the living envy the dead, and as we march our way into oblivion, the religionists are singing the cadence.

Atheism, or at least absolute and inviolable secularism, are our only biological salvation. But, our monkey-brained membership won't permit it. For them, life is some kind of religious horse race, and they're only interest is in rooting for their ecumenical nag right down to the wire.

The "holy book" of Islam ,the Quran which some call "a peaceful religion." instructs much violence and killing. For example in Sura 47 the Quran teaches "When you encounter strike off their heads, until you make a great slaughter among them..." Likewise, in the Quran 9:112 it also teaches "Fight them in Allah's Cause, they slay and are slain, killand are killed." In 9:14 it teaches "Fight them and Allah will punish them by your hands, lay them low. and cover them with shame. He will help you over them." Some peaceful religion.
In the light of this the wisdom of the words of Thomas Paine from his book THE AGE OF REASON very much applies here. For it reads "Any system of religion that has anything in it that shocks the mind of a child, cannot be a true system."

Well, Jesus wept over Jerusalem for its having killed the prophets (as Jeremiah wept over it for not listening to them). But Jerusalem got its comeuppance in 70 A.D., and since a number of scholars think that a fair number of the survivors of that catastrophe made their way into the early Christian church, I suppose I have plenty of reasons to refrain from throwing bricks.

And, perhaps more reason to see Muhammad as an over-imaginative collector of bits and pieces of biblical quotation and religious folklore (that passed by word of mouth rather than gotten from actual acquaintance with the Scriptures).

As for Tom Paine quoted above,he gets a loud Bronx cheer from Uncle Kepha. The "secular" religions that beatify him have unleashed their own quotas of death and destruction on the world. Elias Boudinot (the President in Congress under the Articles of Confederation, not the Cherokee named for him) was probably a far wiser and more capable man back in that era. A lot of life, whether in this world or the next, will shock a child. That's part of how children are driven from the folly that is in their hearts and helped on the road to responsible adulthood.

At bottom, Muslims are - I suspect - furiously, insanely jealous.

They are jealous of the way that Jews - and Christians - can relate to their (the Jews' and the Christians') God.

Over and over, the image of a trusting child with a beloved, loving, trustworthy Father. *That* is how believing Jews - and believing Christians - naturally and simply respond to YHWH, the HOly One.

Whereas the 'god' of the Muslims is a faceless, graceless, merciless and utterly capricious despot - a slavemaster of cringing, terrified slaves.

Muslims cannot *stand* it when Christians, or when Jews, confidently and lovingly address God as Father.

They know they (the Muslims) cannot address their ghastly allah in such a manner.

But rather than give allah the boot, they savagely attack the Christians and Jews whose smiles and shining eyes hint at a possibility of a different kind of God.

Couldn't help but think of that verse after reading your post.

Further, long ago, when I was a pumpkin-headed college student, I heard a professor of anthropology talking about the cult of Pirs in Afghanistan and Pakistan, the place of Ali, Hassan, and Hussein in Shi'ah Islam and similar things. He concluded by speaking of Islam's "hunger for a mediator". I wonder if anyone else has stumbled upon that phenomenon.
