Indonesia's largest Muslim organization: female genital mutilation a "human right"

Western news articles about female genital mutilation routinely assert that it is solely a cultural practice, not justified by any religion. Yet again and again we see Muslim clerics -- such as Kiai Hajj Amin Ma'ruf, who is not an "extremist" but the head of Indonesia's largest Muslim organization, justifying it, and it is sanctioned in Islamic law.

Jakarta (AsiaNews) - The Indonesian Council of Ulema (MUI) is in favour of female circumcision (and men) that, although it can not be considered mandatory, it is still "morally recommended." This is shown by the words of the leader of the largest Islamic organization in the most populous Muslim country in the world. He warns, however, to avoid "excesses", coming to the removal or cutting of the clitoris. In the meantime, has come under investigation and will be prosecuted by a court "ethical" the judge who, in recent days, he "joked" about sexual violence to women, causing a veritable wave of outrage (see AsiaNews 15/01 / 2013 Ordinary Indonesians against judges and politicians who "justify" sexual violence).

"Female circumcision - said Amin - is commonly practiced by cutting out parts that cover the clitoris" and, at the same time, he invites believers to refrain from "excessive circumcision" that ends up becoming a real mutilation genital. He recalled that the Mui can not make this practice "mandatory", but "strongly rejects" the possible cancellation of this "tradition" which is performed in a "ritualistic ceremony" and also applies to men....

It amazes me how they can call an infringement of a human right, a human right!
But then again Muslims have a bizarre way of looking at things.
I suppose if I went around saying that all Muslim men should be castrated and then added 'it's their human right', would it be construed as anything other than hate speech?

I don't know about the most sexually frustrated - they seem willing to rape anything female including goats and donkeys - but they are certainly the most disgusting creatures.

In 2010, however, the Indonesian Government issued a ministerial regulation outlining how the practice should be carried out by medical doctors. That initiative confused many.

Justina Rostiawati, from the National Commission on Violence Against Women, said that the regulation was an acknowledgement that the earlier ban on female circumcision was not working.

“When the hospital or the health services in that area refused to carry out the circumcision, the mother would take the female baby to the midwife, or just to a traditional healer, or birth attendant – where it’s even more dangerous,” Rostiawati said.

Professor Terry Hull of the Australian Demographic and Social Research Institute at the Australian National University said female circumcision is increasing in Indonesia and the practice is becoming more brutal.

“Over the past two decades, there’s been an increasing ‘medicalization’ of the practice, where medical personnel are taking part in what they interpret as Islamic rituals, and they are drawing blood and sometimes cutting away skin from the clitoris and sometimes from the labia.”

I agree, mr. While the polygamists, rapists and so on grab the news, sexual frustration is more the norm. Even for married men, with their mutilated wives. That frustration keeps them busy with religion - or chasing non-Muslim women.

FGM is a "human right" in the same way that imposing an Islamic state is "freedom" and stoning rape victims to death is "justice".

Pious Muslims will use Western concepts to confuse Westerners as to what it is they are doing.

But the fact is that pious Muslims do not believe in any of these high ideals—they certainly *don't* believe in human rights.

What *absolute crap*. FGM is only "morally recommended" because it deadens female desire, and that is accomplished by excising the clitoris.

Even the "mildest" form of FMG—Type I—cuts out the clitoris. Type II also removes the labia, and Type III is infibulation, which sews the vagina shut except for a tiny hole barely allowing the flow of urine and menses. The woman must be *cut open* to allow for intercourse. Infibulation frequently results in terrible infections and fistulas when women give birth.

There is also a "Type IV", that covers a whole range of practices, including the "nicking" or cauterization of the clitoris. "Type IV" in all its forms is so rare as to be considered statistically insignificant.

It comes under the sphere of "human rights," said the Islamist leader, and is "guaranteed by the Constitution."

The next time some meretricious Muslim leader tells you that human rights are guaranteed under the constitution, remember that what he might be talking about is the legalized mutilation of women and girls.
