Leftist/Jihadist Alliance: Al Jazeera acquires Current TV

As I noted earlier today, Al-Jazeera has been dubbed “the most powerful voice of the Muslim Brotherhood.” And Pamela Geller has noted that “Al Jazeera is the leading terrorist propaganda organization in the world. Jihad murder mastermind Anwar al-Awlaki has praised Al Jazeera, and several years ago one of its most prominent reporters was arrested on terror charges. Al Jazeera also has for years been the recipient of numerous Al Qaeda videos featuring bin Laden, Zawahiri, and American traitor Adam Gadahn. Yet they never seem to be able to trace where these videos are coming from. They have repeatedly been set up at the point of attack right before a bomb went off, so that they could take the picture of the slaughtered, dismembered bodies.”

The Left and the jihadis have been cooperating for years. This makes their alliance official.

“Al Jazeera Acquires Current TV,” by Brian Stelter for the New York Times, January 2 (thanks to Pamela Geller):

6:48 p.m. | Updated Al Jazeera on Wednesday completed a deal to take over Current TV, the low-rated cable channel that was founded by Al Gore and his business partners seven years ago.

Current will provide the pan-Arab news giant with something it has sought for years: a pathway into American living rooms. Current is available in about 60 million of the 100 million homes in the United States with cable or satellite service.

Rather than simply use Current to distribute its English-language channel, called Al Jazeera English and based in Doha, Qatar, Al Jazeera will create a new channel, called Al Jazeera America, based in New York. Roughly 60 percent of the programming will be produced in the United States, while the remaining 40 percent will come from Al Jazeera English.

Al Jazeera may absorb some Current TV staff members, according to people with knowledge of the deal who insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly. But Current’s schedule of shows will most likely be dissolved in the spring.

“Al Jazeera is planning to invest significantly in building “˜Al Jazeera America,” a network focused on international news for the American audience,” the Current chief executive Joel Hyatt said in an e-mail to staffers on Wednesday evening. Referring to Mr. Gore, he said, “Al and I will both serve on the advisory board of Al Jazeera America, and we look forward to helping build an important news network.”

The plan will bring Al Jazeera, which is financed by the government of Qatar, into closer competition with CNN and other news channels in the United States.

For Al Jazeera, the acquisition is a coming-of-age moment. A decade ago, the Arabic-language channel was reviled by American politicians for showing video tapes and messages from al Qaeda members and sympathizers. Now it is acquiring an American channel.

“They really want to be able to compete for American viewers, and they have to find some way to get on,” said Philip Seib, the director of the center on public diplomacy at the University of Southern California and the author of “The Al Jazeera Effect.”

Mr. Seib said access to Americans is important both for economic reasons, for the channel’s advertisers, and for “the journalistic legitimacy of their venture.”

To date, the country”s cable and satellite distributors have been reluctant to carry Al Jazeera English. It is available in just a handful of cities, including New York and Washington. To change that, Al Jazeera has lobbied distributors, called for a letter-writing campaign by supporters and promoted its widely praised coverage of the Arab Spring.

Acquiring Current TV, and thus its distribution deals across the country, solves this dilemma for Al Jazeera, at least partially.

Current is hard to find on many cable lineups, and some analysts say it’s at risk of being dropped by some companies because of low ratings, but it would give Al Jazeera a foothold on the country”s cable and satellite service lineups. Then Al Jazeera could revamp the channel and promote it as a new American-based news source.

Representatives for Current TV and Al Jazeera did not immediately respond to requests for comment. There was no immediate word about the sale price.

Current was conceived in 2005 after Mr. Gore and another co-founder, Joel Hyatt, bought the small cable news channel Newsworld International. Current’s owners, along with Mr. Gore and Mr. Hyatt, include several venture capital firms and two major distributors, Comcast and DirecTV.

After several years in obscurity showing viewer-submitted videos and documentaries, Current tacked to the left in 2011 with the hiring of MSNBC”s Keith Olbermann. A year later, Mr. Olbermann was fired, but a liberal minded channel made in his image remained. The channel now simulcasts liberal radio shows in the morning and features news-talk shows in the evening by Joy Behar, Eliot Spitzer, Jennifer Granholm and others.

None of the shows have drawn significant audiences. On a typical night in 2012, about 42,000 people were watching the channel, according to Nielsen. Mr. Spitzer quipped to a reporter from Mediabistro last month, “Nobody”s watching, but I”m having a great time.”

At the end of October, Current confirmed that it was considering selling itself. Mr. Hyatt said in a statement at the time, “Current has been approached many times by media companies interested in acquiring our company. This year alone, we have had three inquiries. As a consequence, we thought it might be useful to engage expertise to help us evaluate our strategic options.”

The New York Times Company mulled a bid for the channel, but decided not to do so….

Current’s programming will continue for about three months. Then an international feed of Al Jazeera English will be simulcast on the channel. Sometime later in 2013, the rebranded Al Jazeera news channel, with 60 percent American programming, will start.

Al Jazeera intends to open new bureaus across the United States to support the American programming. The news operation currently has bureaus in New York, Washington, Los Angeles, Miami, and Chicago.

Oh come on. I have seen Al-Jazeera. It is pro-Arab and anti-Israel, but it is not pro-terrorist. They aren’t afraid to attack Muslim oppression of women, whic the Western media ignores. They are certainly biased but no more than Western media – they represent the views of their demographic. That’s just business, not some sort of vast MB conspiracy. I like this web site (JW) but this is saying something that I can verify is wrong.

    Greetings:

I live in the San Francisco Bay area, several soviets south of what the locals, for some arcane reason, refer to as “The City”. One of the local Progressive (née Public) Broadcasting System stations, call-sign KCSM, airs a one hour Al-Jezeera English news program daily and has been for several years.

I see bits and pieces of the broadcast from time to time and the whole on a more rare basis. To me, they don’t seem any worse than the normal PBS fare bias-wise, but some of that may be my proclivity to judge foreigners less harshly than Americans because, well, they’re foreigners.

What’s caught my attention of late is that they seem to be following PBS’s lead in re-hyping the “climate whatever” boondoggle. And, of course, their interviewées tend to all come from the lefto- Arabo-philic end of the crescent, I mean spectrum.

Spencer should add another damning datum about Al Jazeera: it provides, and has provided for years, a powerful showcase for the highly popular Sheikh Qaradawi to broadcast his mainstream extremism to millions of Muslims around the world via his own TV show.

And as Frank Gaffney has aptly pointed out, quite possibly the two most important, influential and dangerous Muslims in our time are Sheikh Qaradawi and Ekmeleddin Ä°hsanoÄŸlu (Secretary General of the OIC).

A good contender for #3 would be that sinister snake who hasn’t been mentioned in a long time: Turkish “Sufi” Muslim billionaire Fethullah Gulen (which doesn’t mean he isn’t busy as a bee — or spider — from his lavish compound in Virginia, hatching his long-term plot — as he himself said —

“The philosophy of our service is that we open a house somewhere and, with the patience of a spider, we lay our web, to wait for people to get caught in the web; and we teach those who do. We don’t lay the web to eat or consume them, but to show them the way to their resurrection, to blow life into their dead bodies and souls, to give them a life.”

    — to facilitate the jihad).

Great. Just what the non-Muslim world needs – more whitewashing of Islamic theology and Islamic goings-on by Islamic owned and operated media outlets.

Does Al Jazeera have plans to eventually become Shariah compliant? They had better. Or their more devout jihadi brethren are eventually sure to come a-calling…

Despite the leftist/islamist/jihadist alliance, the terrible truth about Islam will continue slipping out to general public. And as the unvarnished truth about the evils of Islamic theology become more widely known, it will become harder and harder for the Islamic propagandists and apologists to obscure the truth about the cruel cult of Mohammedanism.

We ex-Muslims living with Islam’s formal and informal death penalty for apostasy know for certain that Islam is an evil religion/ideology both in part and on the whole.

Here is a recent statement from a group of Bangladeshi apostates living in the UK explaining the reasons why they have abandoned Islam:

“One who claims to be a messenger of God is expected to live a saintly life. He must not be given to lust, he must not be a sexual pervert, and he must not be a rapist, a highway robber, a war criminal, a mass murderer or an assassin. One who claims to be a messenger of God must have a superior character. He must stand above the vices of the people of his time. Yet Muhammad’s life is that of a gangster godfather. He raided merchant caravans, looted innocent people, massacred entire male populations and enslaved the women and children. He raped the women captured in war after killing their husbands and told his followers that it is okay to have sex with their captives (Qur’an 33:50). He assassinated those who criticized him and executed them when he came to power and became de facto despot of Arabia. Muhammad was bereft of human compassion. He was an obsessed man with his dreams of grandiosity and could not forgive those who stood in his way…

    The statement continues,

Muhammad was a narcissist, like Hitler, Saddam or Stalin. He was astute and knew how to manipulate people, but his emotional intelligence was less evolved than that of a 6-year-old child. He simply could not feel the pain of others. He brutally massacred thousands of innocent people and pillaged their wealth. His ambitions were big and as a narcissist he honestly believed he is entitled to do as he pleased and commit all sorts of crimes and his evil deeds are justified.”

That’s fine…They can compete with MSNBC for accuracy and honesty…Maybe Al-Jazeera will hire Kieth Olberman to boost it’s ratings…Al-Jazeera may want to expand it’s business, but I don’t see any particular use for it in America…There is already plenty of news sources that don’t tell us much and lie about the rest…Al-Jazeera is just another one of ‘them’…They ain’t one of us…

Of course, if anyone called the ever self-indulgent Al Gore a self-hating oil sucker, they’d have to obscure “Dear Ole Dad’s” orgy with Occidental Petroleum and Armand Hammer (KGB-USSR). But, as he’d watch a rickshaw and Prius vie in non-petro traffic from the windows of his carbon-discount manor, he loves – passionately – oil money. He was weaned on it like any of Ibn’s progeny.
Now, he’s freeing himself of his media albatross, “Current” – and to whom? Qatar-based; America contemptuous, Jew hating, conspiracy weavers (remember those allegations of 9/11?) – “al Jazeera”. Right that same media that gave Armand’s {god)-son face time to bellow across desert sands, in 2003 “How Dare They”. (His cousin, Barack Hussein, a fellow, “Fellow Traveler”, diversified by using for his first formal TV interview with the Arabic cable TV network “al-Arabiya.)
But, don’t wake up and change channels for fast-forward paint drying (if you haven’t already), monitor it over time. You’ll see not only Socialistic Liberalism (sic-nothing liberal about modern Liberalism) marshaled to a tune to which Josef Goebbels would march. Monitor as it bleeds for every misery-indexed sham. Step by step notice the crescendo, like Ravel’s “Bolero”. Soon you’ll be doing the Hezbollah High Step or dancing to the Hamas Hustle (Free CD’s at Best Buy {Compliment of Board-Member, CAIR’s own Ibrahim “Dougie” Hooper) in the living room. Should you recover, and if you’re not overtaken by acid –reflux, stand by for the “sign-off’: “fajr’ (Evening Prayer by Mohammed {PBUH, etc.} with crescent imposed where stars once lay upon the American flag.
More than likely it will gnaw on its own clock for a period. While most American can’t see beyond what paparazzi offer; they’ll busy themselves with “educational (tax-creditable)’ programs such as the Suras in “Mr. Rogers” format; and those of the most willfully-blind; “Your Constitution and Shariah.”
By the way, in regard to the latter codex all properties as Muslim owned become “Holy Sites” (Sort of First Amendment squared.)
One can only wish “al Jazeera” the same success as “Current”.

    AL GORE-ZERRA TV

Now that Al Gore, the apocalyptic father of climate change hysteria, sold his worthless tv network to pro-al Qaida, Islamist Al Jazerra, hypocrisy has reached new heights of leftist falsehood. Not so much for closing the deal before the expiration of the Bush tax rates, or making the sale to the enemy; but because al Jazeera’s burning, fuming, toxic hatred of America, Israel and The West makes it among the world’s worst global warming polluters.

    ………………………….

With all respect, I believe the posters above who are pooh-poohing concerns over Al Jazeera are missing the point.

Al Jazeera English is less “extreme” than Al Jazeera in Arabic”but this doesn’t mean they are somehow more “moderate” in English, but just that they know that most English speakers would balk at the full, Jihad supporting programing on Al Jazeera”hence the Taqiyya.

That *does not* mean that they have changed their stance”they are still the network that showcases the appalling Sheikh Qaradawi and those like him.

For those who may not know who this is, here’s more on the genocidal “Sheikh”:

“Jew-hating jihadist Sheikh Qaradawi, “massively influential and probably the number one scholar in the Arab world,” to speak in Ireland”

    http://www.jihadwatch.org/2011/06/jew-hating-jihadist-sheikh-qaradawi-massively-influential-and-probably-the-number-one-scholar-in-the.html

When they believe the time is right, Al Jazeera will up the ante on the pro-Jihad material in
    English.

As for those who believe that having the temerity to mention the Jihadist nature of Al Jazeera is somehow stymieing American freedom of speech, this is bizarre.

Many people who watch Current TV will not know that it is owned by Al Jazeera”and of those who have heard, many will not understand the gravity or implications of that news.

Al Jazeera’s acquisition of Current TV gives a major Jihad propaganda organ a beachhead in American media”to imply that we should support freedom of speech by censoring our mentioning of that fact is a very odd interpretation of freedom of speech, indeed.

    Hi Saleem,

First, plaudits to your courage in becoming an apostate!

Can you tell me, how is it that Muslims can completely deny the existence of anything bad in the koran/ahadith/sunnah? Could it be that most are totally ignorant of their own scriptures? If so, why do they not want to find out? I hear all the usual lies about the perfect man of Islam but it’s SO obvious that he was exactly the opposite of perfect…

Is the blind obedience of 1.5 billion so complete that it cannot be exposed? Just ONE fact condemns Islam; the concept of Dar al-Islam versus Dar al-Harb; how do they pervert their minds to explain this?

  11. says

Turks supposedly revere Kemal Ataturk yet they elect Islamists…
They should be reminded of the great man’s opinion of Islam- that it is “a rotting corpse’!

  12. says

“There is already plenty of news sources that don’t tell us much and lie about the rest”

    You are correct, but…

We have been witnessing a remarkable decline in the breath of the MSM in recent years due to the fact that many people no longer pay money for their products. Newsweek magazine is the premier example of this decline.

So, it is getting more difficult for “journalists” of these views to be seen in locations that the average person is just “passing through”, such as news stands and book stores and television channels (the Internet for most has a different search dynamic).

This introduction of al-Jazeera to the American market reverses this decline (similar introductions have happened in stock sales within the Bloomberg and Murdoch media empires). In effect we have been voting with our wallets, and now foreign petrodollars will be used to override our votes.

  13. says

“We have been witnessing a remarkable decline in the breath of the MSM in recent years…”

You’re right; their breath is really getting stinky, reflecting the fact that for the past 10 years at least, their stomach has not been digesting the data of Islam, and their colon has been backed up from expelling the shit that now courses through their system as a toxic substitute for nutriments. That, alas, does not stop them from continuing to deploy their in-you-face “journalism” that amounts to bad breath on a scale so regular, massively public and practically unavoidable as to constitute a public health hazard.
