Following are excerpts from a video clip of a demonstration in Egypt held to mark the fall of the Muslim rule in Andalusia, posted on the Internet on January 2, 2013.

Sign: “We have not forgotten Andalusia. We will definitely return.”

Sign: “The conquest of countries will not be erased by oblivion.”

Demonstrator: As we speak, in Islamic Andalusia, in Spain, they are marching to celebrate the fall of the Islamic state of Andalusia, or Spain. While they are celebrating, we here are upset, because the Muslims used to rule in those European countries.

Over there, they are celebrating the fact that they killed Muslims and drove out the Muslims rulers, who ruled them with justice.

Demonstrator: This is a good opportunity to remind people of the history of their Islamic nation, because a nation that forgets its history is, I’m sad to say, doomed to failure.

Demonstrator: My name is Muhammad Gamal.

Reporter: Muhammad, why are you demonstrating?

b>Demonstrator: At this very moment, there are celebrations in Spain, to mark the expulsion of the Muslims from Andalusia. We are here to respond to them, and say that Allah willing, we will return to Andalusia. We are here to remind people of this day of commemoration.

It's funny you say that, Miriam. I was recently in Amsterdam and shared a joint with an Egyptian in a coffeeshop. I didn't bring up anything political or religious or obvious reasons but I did inquire about how common smoking pot/hash in Egypt was.

He said it was quite common among the younger generation. I would infer from that the Salafists probably aren't too keen on the practice. I didn't ask about price but I would think it's not that expensive if it's common for youth.

It is quite hypocritical for Muslims to consider Alcoholic drinks haram while turning a blind eye to marijuana, opium, hashish, etc. which are mind - altering and consciousness -altering.

I fear that the Spanish government and media are as clueless about the Islamic menace as the rest of the European governments. Mark Steyn was prescient in his analysis of the Islamization of Europe in his book "America Alone".

That being said, I believe the Spanish people (especially the Basques) will be up to the task of refusing to submit to the "reconquistas". They will get a nasty surprise if they attempt a takeover!

everything about islam is double standard. Muslims for most part they live in their past glories and they blame all their ills on the past. Case in point are Iranians as I am. Even the most secular of them all still blame CIA for helping the Shah to oust Mosadegh. and their analogy is had they not done it then we could have been this, that and all sort of BS like it. never take responsibility for our own actions. Instead of looking inward they tend to look outwards thus blaming everything on outsiders. you see Basqu:

I think they tend to look the other way if their own citizens are doing drugs, but if I went to Egypt, there is no way I would ever take the risk of smoking a joint. A gay American with Jewish blood. All they'd need is an excuse.

In many third world countries, a lot of local laws are only enforced on tourists, and only then as an excuse to get a bribe. In Islamic countries, sometimes they want to make an example. Remember that American software developer arrested in Iran a while back. The charges were absurd!

To hear you continually carping about the supposed blind optimism and folly of 'many' *here* (*how* many, exactly? 90 percent? 80 percent? 70 percent? 50 percent? 30 percent? I'd peg such a presumed percentage a *lot* lower than 30 percent, which is *not* 'many' by any reasonable taking of the meaning of the word) re Egyptians and Iranians - and I get the sense that you are broadly hinting that Mr Spencer shares or encourages this 'blind optimism' and folly - becomes very very irritating after awhile, especially as I myself really can't see any evidence of such attitudes among the majority of the regulars here, and I've read nearly everything in the archives, right from the beginning, and have been reading and posting almost daily since 2007.
