Obama refuses to cancel F-16s for Egypt, says arms deal serves U.S. "regional security interests"

What interests? Against whom besides Israel will Egypt use these fighter jets?

"Egypt to Receive F-16s: State Department refuses to delay delivery to Muslim Brotherhood-run Egypt," by Adam Kredo for the Washington Free Beacon, January 22 (thanks to Tom):

The State Department has refused to cancel or delay the delivery of several American-made F-16 fighter jets to Egypt, claiming that the arms deal serves America’s “regional security interests,” according to an official State Department document obtained by the Free Beacon.

The news that the Obama administration would uphold an aid package to Egypt that included the military hardware prompted concern on Capitol Hill from lawmakers who said the deal was not prudent given the political situation in Egypt, where Muslim Brotherhood-backed President Mohammed Morsi has clashed with democratic protestors.

“Sixteen F-16s and 200 Abrams tanks are to be given to the Egyptian government before the end of the year under a foreign aid deal signed in 2010 with then-Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak,” Fox News reported Tuesday.

“President Morsi has failed to promote promised democracy in his country and neglected to continue Egypt’s legacy of maintaining peace in the region,” said Senator James Inhofe (R., Okla.). “I am alarmed and disappointed in the Obama Administration’s decision to decline my request to delay delivery of F-16s for further consideration.”

The State Department maintained in a January 8 letter to Inhofe that the arming of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood serves the U.S.’s “regional security interests.”

“Delaying or cancelling deliveries of the F-16 aircraft would undermine our efforts to address our regional security interests through a more capable Egyptian military and send a damaging and lasting signal to Egypt’s civilian and military leadership as we work toward a democratic transition in the key Middle Eastern State,” the State Department said.

“Egypt is a strategic partner with whom we have a long history of close political-military relations that have benefited U.S. interest,” said the letter, which was authored by assistant secretary for legislative affairs David Adams. “For the past 30 years the F-16 aircraft has been a key component of the relationship between the United States military and the Egyptian Armed Forces.”

“Maintaining this relationship and assisting with the professionalization and the building of the Egyptian Armed Forces’ capabilities to secure its borders is one of our key interests in the region,” Adams wrote.

“Egypt continues to play an important role in the regional peace and stability,” according to the letter. “In all of our engagements with President Morsi and his staff, they have reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to its international agreements, including its peace treaty with Israel.”

“Egypt was instrumental in negotiating the Gaza ceasefire, and continues to work with the parties involved to implement it and secure a more lasting peace,” the letter states.

Morsi was recently criticized for calling Jews the “descendants of apes and pigs.”

Observers on Capitol Hill said that it is dangerous to arm an unstable Islamist regime.

One senior GOP aide familiar with the deal said he is ”incredulous that a country that doesn’t have peace and stability within itself is playing ‘an important role in regional peace and stability’ as this letter claims.”

Indeed.

My God. How is this NOT outright treason?

“Maintaining this relationship and assisting with the professionalization and the building of the Egyptian Armed Forces’ capabilities to secure its borders is one of our key interests in the region..."
Since when did Egypt have a problem with its borders? If any country has a problem with its borders, it's the US. Why not start with securing its own borders?

"Against whom besides Israel will Egypt use these fighter jets?"

Against Egyptians!

http://crossmuslims.blogspot.com/2011/10/egyptian-army-s-crimes.html

This is pretty outrageous--even for Obama. No sooner sworn-in than he's rushing to arm our enemies ("Strategic Partners" in Obamaspeak).
This is the kind of damage we knew he could do with a second, unfettered term in office...and he's wasting no time getting started. This is so wrong--so rife with negative implications-- and so depressing that I don't even want to think about how much worse it can get over another 4 years with this clown...

Before we send over another bean, bullet, tank or advanced airframe to Egypt, we must first satisfy ourselves that they meet acceptable levels of civilized behavior. Egypt to date has not been able to provide an adequate defense of its own minority religious population. To see how the Egyptian government has stood by while Christian villages have been razed, daughters raped and peoples murdered. A country that’s unable to achieve security for its most important constituency, its citizens, is not one that we should be exporting world-class advanced weapon systems to.

Egypt is not a democracy, nor is it heading in a direction that suggests one in the near future. Morsi’s allowance of free reign to his fellow Muslim Brotherhood club has resulted in opposition parties from participating in the countries democratic process. Morsi’s adherents have tortured and killed those that they didn’t scare away. This has been witnessed and documented by Egyptian media. Morsi is not a poster-child for a nicer and gentler Islamist nation. His country, under the heel of Islamist extremism, is neither friend nor ally.

I wish we could say why Mr. Obama feels compelled to appease Morsi’s ever more radicalized Islamist government. Some will claim that he’s advancing the Islamist agenda while others will say that he’s simply inept. Should we ever have to come to the rescue of our only friend and ally in the region, Israel, we will be putting the lives of our servicemen in harm’s way of Mr. Obama’s misguided world view.

You can say that again.

The Americans could adjust the onboard computer software to malfunction if the planes cross the Israeli border. It's technically possible!

And the Israelis could use Iron Dome or the more advanced David's Sling to lock on to the F16s with a laser and shoot them down just like an incoming rocket from Gaza. In other words, no need to send their own boys up to dogfight in the sky.

Anyway, Obama's a clown!

..."says arms deal serves U.S. 'regional security interests'"

obama knows how to cater to the masses, and phrases like "regional *security* interests" make for a great talking point; so it doesn't even matter whether it's true or not.

So the Obama administration are giving sixteen F-16s and 200 Abrams tanks to the Egyptian government before the end of the year??

Well why stop there?

The Obama administration might as well go all the way and hand Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood a few nuclear weapons, give them a green light to exterminate the last of the Coptic Christians, urge them to get on with instituting Sharia Law, and help them wipe Israel and the Jewish people off of the map.

If moohammed the mad prophet of Islam were alive today he would certainly be supportive of all the above. In fact he would demand it. With the exception being that he might let the Copts live - but only if they agreed to pay the jizya (as per Qur'an 9:29).

We ex-Muslims living with Islam's formal and informal death penalty for apostasy know that the cruel cult of Mohammedanism is a despicable fraud.

Here is a recent statement from a group of Bangladeshi apostates living in the UK explaining the reasons why they have abandoned Islam:

"One who claims to be a messenger of God is expected to live a saintly life. He must not be given to lust, he must not be a sexual pervert, and he must not be a rapist, a highway robber, a war criminal, a mass murderer or an assassin. One who claims to be a messenger of God must have a superior character. He must stand above the vices of the people of his time. Yet Muhammad’s life is that of a gangster godfather. He raided merchant caravans, looted innocent people, massacred entire male populations and enslaved the women and children. He raped the women captured in war after killing their husbands and told his followers that it is okay to have sex with their captives (Qur'an 33:50). He assassinated those who criticized him and executed them when he came to power and became de facto despot of Arabia. Muhammad was bereft of human compassion. He was an obsessed man with his dreams of grandiosity and could not forgive those who stood in his way...

The statement continues,

Muhammad was a narcissist, like Hitler, Saddam or Stalin. He was astute and knew how to manipulate people, but his emotional intelligence was less evolved than that of a 6-year-old child. He simply could not feel the pain of others. He brutally massacred thousands of innocent people and pillaged their wealth. His ambitions were big and as a narcissist he honestly believed he is entitled to do as he pleased and commit all sorts of crimes and his evil deeds are justified."

Committing acts of treason every day, committing acts of treason in every way...

That's who he is...I tried to tell them but they wouldn't listen...

Muhammad was a narcissist, like Hitler, Saddam or Stalin.

That's if he really existed...Spencer seemed to come to the opposite conclusion...But in the alternate reality of Islam, Mahoundians believe Mahound was a walking talking being...A role model even...The only Mahoundian I know (a Quran only Mahoundian), who agree's with Spencer, said the Mahound of Hadith is not the same Mahound of Quran...
Will the real Mahound please stand up...
As you well know, the deeper you look into Islam, the stranger and darker it gets...

Who manufactures the F 16s and Abrams tanks?
How much is the contract to buy them?
How many US jobs are involved in building these armaments?
Who has the power to cancel the sale? Congress or the President? It was a Congressional delegation led by that rabid leftist, John McCain, that recently returned from an official visit with Morsi and who recommended that the contract go forward. Why not condemn McCain and all those Republican leftists in Congress who approved the aide?
Would it be politic to break a contract with Egypt at this point in time when they have not renegged on their Camp David peace treaty with Israel?

In January 2012, our (UK) own Foreign Secretary, William Hague, said that we should accept the right ‘of peoples to choose their own representatives at the ballot box’. He said this in response to the Muslim Brotherhood’s success in the Egyptian elections.

The Muslim Brotherhood is an Islamist party. That means that it refuses to make any strong divisions at all between mosque and state (we say ‘church and state’) when it comes to all aspects of political and social organisation and life. More to the point, the Muslim Brotherhood has perennially stated its soundbite of both momentous brevity and power: ‘ Islam is the solution.’ Yes, Islam is the solution. The solution to what, exactly? Everything! And I mean everything. Islam even ‘follows you into the bedroom’. Not for Muslims, or not for the Mus Bros, that quaint distinction between the private and the public.

It also needs to be seen what exactly Hague meant by ‘accepting the rights’ of the people to vote in Islamofascists or whatever. What does it mean to ‘accept’ these things? That we accept the democratic process itself regardless of what follows it? Well, we didn’t really accept the coming to power of Hamas in Gaza back in 2006. They were - sort-of - voted in democratically. As was the Nazi Party in Germany in 1933. Indeed, throughout the 20th century a whole host of repellent regimes were brought to power by democratic, or by quasi-democratic, means. None of which will tell us anything about what these parties and people did - and still do - once they gained power. For that, we would need to look further than reading the many Western-friendly capsules the Muslim Brotherhood has offered up to our journalists and political leaders. I suggest reading something by Sayyid Qutb (say, Ma’alim fi-I-Tariq). Qutb was the most important leaders of the Mus Bros in the 1950s and 60s. He was killed in 1966 for stirring things up for the Egyptian state. Alternative, read the monument to extremism and monomaniacal anti-Semitism that is the Hamas Charter (1988). Why that? Because, as I’ve said, Hamas is part of the Muslim Brotherhood (as is our own Muslim Association of Britain (MAB)).

It seemed at the time that William Hague and his boss, David Cameron, were at odds on this. Either that or they hadn’t properly discussed these issues at all, which is highly probable. When Cameron visited Egypt in 2011 he labelled the Muslim Brotherhood ‘extreme’. Or, at the least, he labelled Egypt’s ‘Islamic politicians’ as ‘extreme’.

Of course when it comes to the crunch, what may ultimately decide these issues will be the Egyptian and British business communities and their various spokesmen in government. Hague and co. will also respond to the unbiased advice of those clever civil servants at the Foreign Office. Being largely ex-public schoolboys, they will be big on Grown-up Diplomacy. And only well-trained Oxbridge types can do a good job of that. Remember Neville Chamberlain and his little handshake with Hitler, circa 1938?
You see. Spineless - but often clever - Realpolitik doen’t always come up with the goods. Though often it does!

The Egyptian state’s position on Israel will also tell us a lot about the direction of Mus Bros in power. And it seems that Hague has read a lot into the minuscule fact that the Egyptian state will be respecting existing agreements with Israel. Come again! That’s the case now! But what about next year? Indeed - what about next week? The Mus Bros will not be able to resist the massive temptation to sour Egypt’s relations with Israel and ultimately go to war with ‘the Zionist entity’. Read the literature of Mus Bros. This ‘extreme’ (Cameron’s word) organisation has been ranting and raving about Jews since the 1920s. After 1948, and more so after 1967, they began to rant and rave, instead, about ‘Zionists’ and the ‘Zionist state’. Surely you don’t have to be an Eton-educated civil servant to realise where all this will end.

Would it be politic to break a contract with Egypt at this point in time when they have not renegged on their Camp David peace treaty with Israel?

Contract? Is Egypt paying for these planes and tanks? An aid package is a gift not a contract...Because Islam has declared war on all da al-harb, and the MB has specifically said they would destroy the miserable house of America for Allah, any gift or contract, or aid or comfort from the US is treason...

The answer to the question of who else will the american arms given to Egypt be used is the French liberators of Mali.

Had Netanyahu talked of Arab Muslim apes and pigs, called Obama a liar and swore to destroy Egypt the world would erupt.

Egypt, up to now has not renaged on the peace deal because a/ history tells them that they'll be humiliatingly decimated (yet again) and b/ they need the US largesse dependent upon honouring their obligation.

However it now seems that Morsi can get away with whatever he wants and Obama's self evident islamic leanings and obvious disdain towards Zionist Jews allows it.

Israel is distancing from the US and already the feelers are out towards India, China and the Russians.

Due to Obama's narcissistic hubris America's only true friend in the ME is now detaching from the closeness both party's enjoyed and Israel's undoubted technical, medical and IT prowess will now be offered elsewhere.

Somehow judging by the backwardness and illiteracy of it's citizens I can't see Egypt filling that gap.

As Pamela Geller sighs, four more years!

How sad, I wonder what Obambam's legacy will be?

Then again, he still believe's in Global warming which is nothing more than a kiss a** to the special interest groups.

How sad :-(

Gift or contract, it does not matter. What matters is that the Military Industrial Complex gets its money, whether it is the Egyptians or the American taxpayer that is footing the bill. Remember that Corporations do not have national allegiance or anything that binds citizens to do what is right and moral, so therefore treason is not applicable in their case. Unfortunately, when you have government by Corporation, this is what you get. In reality, Obama has little to do with it and it is more to do with the brand of crony Capitalism that we have espoused.

If you read the article...

It tells us that the State Department (i.e., the administration) has refused the senator's request to reconsider. So it's a government contract with OUR OWN government; then, it becomes an administration decision--to GIFT this stuff to the Egytptians.

But what if our wise government opted to delay or rescind this gift? The assets could still be built and forwarded to our OWN military--not that of our (unstable) adversaries. And the "Military Industrial Complex" would still get its money. And the assets would be under OUR control--not Egypt's. That's not the contractors' decision--that's the administrations' decision.

But no, the Obama administration, in its wisdom, is spending billions--OUR billions to arm an unstable, hostile state. We're 16 TRILLION dollars in debt...and Obama is arming our enemies. The buck stops with him, not the bogeyman "Military Industrial Complex..."

You wrote: 'Remember that Corporations do not have national allegiance or anything that binds citizens to do what is right and moral, so therefore treason is not applicable in their case..'

Not true! Corporations are not allowed to sell cutting edge military technology to North Korea or Iran, for example. Why not? Because they are enemies of America and freedom everywhere.
So, why should Egypt's Brotherhood government not get cutting edge military technology? Same reason!

Your example only holds if it is applicable in all cases. It ain't!

Tried to get on a talk radio show which was real hard with a rotary phone. nevertheless my words to the person must have been too wordy?
"What do you want to discuss?""Egypt. Not only is Egypt getting all that gear but this administration allowed eighty-two billion in military aide to Saudi Arabia and Israel only gets..."
"Thank you, no go, goodbye."
*sigh*

"Corporations are not allowed to sell cutting edge military technology to North Korea or Iran, for example. Why not? Because they are enemies of America and freedom everywhere."

Most of the stuff they sell is NOT cutting edge technology, but deadly enough. It stands to reason that the US will not be selling them secret weapons any time soon. But even so, if arms manufacturers are not directly selling them, it is done through government agencies, which is just as good. There are a lot of loopholes in these laws and can be bend to fit the need.

And given the fact fact that only 'friendly' nations are sold military hardware, it stands to reason then that MB Egypt as well Saudi and other Islamic nations including Pakistan are considered to be friendly allies by successive US governments. At the end of the day, it all boils down to the same - more money in the hands of the arms manufacturers and more weapons in the hands of the Jihadists.

Great. Just in time to use against the dirty French. Oh well they are bound to surrender in another day or so anyway.

When I was growing up, we always said that World War III will start in the Middle East.

Maybe Obama is just moving the date up a little bit, you know, sort of giving the whole muzzie issue a little nudge as an excuse to move in and take over the whole dam region???

Makes you wonder??

Can't the the Congress with its Republican majority cut funding to the State Department to prevent this gift to the MB in Egypt. I forgot not with crying Boehner in charge.

Well do we understand what and whose regional interests, husseins, are to be served!

Well do we understand what and whose regional interests, husseins, are to be served!

Who else, besides Israel, might these weapons be used against?

The Copts, first and foremost. I fully expect that a full-on jihad genocide of the Copts is about to be unloosed, sometime soon.

Then there are the non-Muslims of Nigeria (Egyptian Muslims went to the aid of the Muslims during the Biafra war, and had great fun attacking villages full of defenceless Christians and animists; I am sure that Islamic Egypt would rush to join in, once the Jihad really gets going in Nigeria again); and there is pesky little infidel South Sudan (I could see Islamic Egypt joining with Islamic Sudan if Islamic Sudan decides to launch a full-on jihad against South Sudan), and there is Ethiopia (what if the Muslim Fifth Column there, which is very large, decides to Go Jihad, and then Islamic Sudan and Islamic Egypt rush in to assist with the extirpation of a nation that has resisted Islamisation for over 1000 years?).

Indeed, because the Jews of Israel are armed and dangerous and getting more and more suspicious, a tough nut to crack, I would expect Islamic Egypt to use its hi-tech arsenal against softer targets first: the Copts, and perhaps the others that I have mentioned.

"That's if he really existed...Spencer seemed to come to the opposite conclusion...But in the alternate reality of Islam, Mahoundians believe Mahound was a walking talking being...A role model even..."

To paraphrase Voltaire: If Mohammed did not exist, it would be necessary (for Muslims) to invent him.

"Then there are the non-Muslims of Nigeria (Egyptian Muslims went to the aid of the Muslims during the Biafra war, and had great fun attacking villages full of defenceless Christians and animists..."

And it was the Egyptian Air Force that did most of the killing. (I think that "secular" "nationalist" Anwar Sadat was Egypt's leader at the time -- another indication that Islamic diversity is all too often misleading.)

The Obama administration probably believes that Egypt will use all that in toppling the Syrian regime, or confronting Iran. Which is a bunch of hooey.

It will be fun when Israel will ultimately be forced to eviscerate that entire Egyptian Air Force and army, along w/ those of Syria and Lebanon.
