Austrian hostage of Muslims in Yemen appeals for ransom money with AK-47 pointed at his head

VIENNA, Feb 23 (Reuters) - An Austrian man taken hostage in Yemen in December has appeared in a video posted on YouTube, saying he would be killed if ransom money was not paid to a Yemeni tribe within a week.
Pictured with what appeared to be an AK47 automatic rifle pointed at his head, Dominik Neubauer said he was in good health and appealed to the Yemeni and Austrian governments and the European Union to give his hostage takers what they wanted.

"Mum, Dad, Lucas, Angela, I love you more than anything. Up until now I am in good health," the 26-year-old Arabic studies student said in the video posted on Feb. 21. (http://r.reuters.com/jux26t)

Neubauer was snatched along with a Finnish couple by tribesmen in the centre of the capital Sanaa on Dec. 21, according to the Yemeni government. Yemen has said the three were later sold to al Qaeda members and transferred to the small town of al-Manaseh south of the capital.

A spokesman for the Austrian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday the government was acting on the assumption the video was genuine, and was in intensive contact with the Yemeni authorities and also with the Finnish government.

"This is the first sign of life we have from Mr Neubauer," he said.

He said Austria would not allow itself to be blackmailed, and said there was no concrete group that had made itself known as the hostage-takers.

The spokesman added that the ministry had received the video on Saturday. He declined to say where the ministry had got it from.

"We want to see the return of a healthy hostage," he said, adding that the foreign, interior and defence ministries and the chancellery had been in crisis talks on Saturday that would likely continue on Sunday....

What's a 26-year-old Austrian doing studying Arabic in Yemen? Only three possible answers: He's studying for some PC MC academic career in MESA Nostra; he has an eye on conversion to Islam; he's actually interested in the Counter-Jihad.

Somehow, I think Door #3 is highly unlikely.

There is no Austrian Embassy in Yemen for a good reason - every kid in a pre-school is taught that Yemen is a cesspit of terrorists state outside Pakistan/Afghanstan.

I believe this ass-clown is either an Al-quada sympathizer or belongs to them. No one in their right wit goes to Yemen under the current circumstances. If there is no Austrian Embassy in Yemen, who could guarantee his well being over there? Hence he is appealing to the European Union - meaning Germany. They have recently captured a bunch of Europeans. My guess is they figured, they could milk European Union dead easy because there is more than enough lefties influence who will give in to their demand.

I've travelled to a number of places in the World, but even in my younger more foolhardy days I had the sense to stay away from certain shitholes. Yemen, naturally was never on my to-do list.
I always found the Middle East to be uncomfortable during the times that I was there. Even before I knew about Islam, it's teachings and its ideology, I felt a certain something when speaking to the people who resided in these countries. It's not as if they were unfriendly, quite the opposite, but I felt as if they couldn't be trusted. I had a feeling that they would sell their own grandmothers and stab you in the back at the slightest opportunity.
When you look straight into the eyes of an Egyptian or Syrian street seller surrounded by his friends and family, pressuring you into buying his crap, lying through his teeth, and checking to make sure that you are alone with no other tourists around, then you know that you have looked into the eyes of the Devil himself.
When you walk down the narrow soukhs and see the faces of the people who live and work there, it's gives you the same feeling that a pigeon must get when surrounded by cats.
Even back then, my gut instincts told me that I was a fish out of water. The only way to deal with these people when they became too boisterous or too creepy was to show no fear, be prepared to stand up to them and then at the first opportunity subtly get out fast! This of course was back in the pre-Arab Spring days when things were generally safer.
You'd have to be either very brave or a naive idiot to be visiting some of these places today.

Bob, you brought memories of when a few of my ship buddy's and I decided to go for a walk around Tunisa. To this day I still don't understand what a US Navy ship was doing tied up for just one day at that port. We had no clue about the culture or even the safe zones. Just like Navy men do when we set our feet on solid ground we searched for a Tavern or outside style cafe.
We walked about 10 min and we came across an arch way. now let me say before we entered this arch way the shops and bldgs looked the same as say in Naples, Rota Spain etc.
We entered into a world that I would never forget for the rest of my life. I was 17 then, I'am now 56.Poverty was stained into my being that day. We were memorized at what our eye's were seeing ,but the brain couldn't sort it out. We didn't even realize that we kept walking and for a min didn't even know how far we walked.I did notice that as we were walking the area went vacant of any other living sole, with the execption of my other ship mates.I could see where the shadows on the bldgs tops were ,I knew what direction to walk.
For that min I knew that feeling you wrote at the end of the third paragraph.Ever since obummer became president I started to have that feeling too! He has so divided us,and now big sis let those illegal aliens out of prison.
We need to act now.obummer and big sis need to go. orange jump suits sounds about right.
