Disinvited by Worcester diocese under media and Islamic supremacist pressure, Robert Spencer will be at conference anyway

I'll be in Worcester, Massachusetts on March 16, at an exhibitor's table or outside if that is denied. People can see and hear for themselves if what I say is hateful or if it is just true.

Here, meanwhile is the petition that is circulating asking Bishop Robert McManus of Worcester to allow me to speak after all.

"Speaker disinvited by Worcester Diocese says he’ll have his say anyway," by Bob Kievra for the Telegram & Gazette, February 1 (thanks to all who sent this in):

WORCESTER — An author and blogger disinvited by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Worcester to a Catholic men’s conference in March says he will still come to the city and try to talk to attendees.

Robert Spencer, who said he was invited last June by the planning committee of the Catholic Men’s Conference, urged readers of his blog Thursday to contact church officials and express their disapproval with Wednesday’s decision by the Diocese of Worcester to cancel his presentation.

I didn't just "say" I was invited last June. I was invited last June. It's a minor point, but I would have provided documentation of the fact if asked.

Mr. Spencer blogs and has written books that some consider anti-Muslim.

Notice that the setup here is exactly the same as in the outrageously biased and one-sided Boston Globe article: Islamic supremacists (including one who publicly proclaims himself a "friend and supporter" of convicted jihad terrorist Tarek Mehanna) hurl charges, I am allowed some space to respond, and that's that. No one who supports me, no one who knows that my work is accurate, is ever quoted.

He said in an email Thursday afternoon that he intends to be at the March 16 conference at the DCU Center.

“I have inquired about buying an exhibitor table but have not received a response. If this is denied, I will set up outside and give the talk the Diocese of Worcester feared attendees would hear,” he said in an email.

So far no response on the exhibitor's table (or from the bishop or any of his spokesmen). The lack of basic courtesy here does surprise me.

Mr. Spencer, a Catholic and director of the blog Jihad Watch, posted Thursday that people should contact the Diocese of Worcester “and let them know, politely and courteously, that you disapprove of their capitulation to Islamic supremacists and refusal to give me an opportunity to answer their charges or get a fair hearing.”

Monsignor Thomas Sullivan, the organizer of the conference, said he did not believe Mr. Spencer is against the Muslim religion, but said Bishop Robert J. McManus pulled the invitation to avoid a controversy.

Yes, avoiding controversy is the stuff of which the saints and martyrs were made.

Msgr. Sullivan, the diocesan chancellor, said he has never spoken to Mr. Spencer and that another committee member asked him to be a conference presenter.

“This particular speaker was perceived by some Islamic groups as being anti-Islamic which was not our perception,” Msgr. Sullivan said. “Someone contacted the Archdiocese of Boston and expressed their concern,” he said. “I think he’s a good Catholic.”

The concern was relayed to local Roman Catholic leaders, Msgr. Sullivan said. He said Bishop McManus opted to withdraw the invitation “rather than undergo a media outcry.”

Well, he's got one.

“The bishop is the bishop and he made the decision,” Msgr. Sullivan said.

“I was not looking for a problem,” he said. “The bishop felt that by disinviting him we would be avoiding a problem in casting a bad light on Christian-Islamic relations,” Msgr. Sullivan said. “Why risk that?”

What about the Muslims who cast a bad light on Christian-Islamic relations by persecuting Christians in Egypt, Nigeria, Iraq, Pakistan, Malaysia, Indonesia and elsewhere? Is anyone allowed to speak up for those Christians and explore the ideological root causes of why they're being persecuted, or would that upset the shallow and insincere friendships you have with Muslims stateside? Any genuine dialogue, and any healthy relationship, proceeds on the basis of honesty. Pretending that Islamic texts do not say what they say about Christians, and that Muslims do not act upon those texts to persecute Christians, will do nothing to help those Christians who are under threat. Only by confronting honestly the source of the problem can we ever hope to solve it.

Dr. Amjad Bahnassi, a member of and spokesman for the Islamic Society of Greater Worcester, said Mr. Spencer’s views are “well-known” and “hateful and offensive.”

“He has made it very clear he hates Islam,” Dr. Bahnassi said. “This is a person who is biased in his views.”

Mr. Spencer said the criticism of his remarks “is a common, frequently used tactic to divert attention from the grim reality of how jihadists use the texts and teachings of Islam to justify violence and supremacism.”

“There is no hate in my work except what I report from those jihadists,” he said in an email. “My work is in defense of the freedom of speech, the freedom of conscience, and the equality of rights of all people before the law.”

A spokesman for the Diocese of Worcester said organizers had intended Mr. Spencer to offer attendees a presentation on Islam.

“Although the intention of the conference organizers was to have a presenter on Islam from a Catholic’s perspective, we are asking Robert Spencer to not come to the Worcester Catholic Men’s Conference given that his presence is being seen as harmful to Catholic–Islamic relations both locally and nationally,” Diocesan spokesman Raymond Delisle said in a statement.

Mr. Spencer said no one at the diocese has contacted him about his request for a meeting.

Dr. Bahnassi said there are no hard feelings over the incident.

“I doubt there was any foul play or bad intentions by the Diocese,” he said. “We have great relations between the two faiths.”

"No hard feelings"? "No hard feelings"? No "foul play or bad intentions"? Yes, we assassinated this man's character, smeared and defamed him, and succeeded in strongarming Bishop McManus into canceling his appearance. And hey, Bishop, we don't hold a grudge!

Sheila Musaji(of The American Muslim, linked to CAIR and one of the sociopaths with projection behind loonwatch.com -and islamophobiatoday.com-), like a good and devout pedophile worshipper, is such mythomaniac that she is not ashamed of making shit up like this:

http://twitter.com/#!/SheilaMusaji/status/297714585224503296

Gotta love the Goebbelian revisionism and tactics. So now "extremists" -she doesn't specify what kind of extremists- are attacking Muslim, yes Muslim, nuns... in Libya.

http://www.jihadwatch.org/2013/02/myjihad-in-libya-muslims-threaten-nuns-force-them-to-leave-libya.html

Oh, the buffoonery of these pedohammedans. Will it ever end?. Musaji has been spamming, and blocking those who she spams(then buffoonishly complaining about those who block her), on Twitter. She has been spamming all month those who retweet Spencer and link to jihadwatch and those who counter the #MyJihad taqiyya.

Here's Sheila desperately asking for help to her fellow pedophile worshippers to spam Twitter

https://twitter.com/SheilaMusaji/status/297721296081518592

I signed and commented.

Disinviting Robert Spencer is an attempt at thought control, the most important tool of tyranny.

"Bishop Robert J. McManus pulled the invitation to avoid a controversy."

Some hero, that Bishop.

So avoiding 'controversy' is now a virtue of the church?

Looks like a good plan.

I can tell you, lots of things were done by Jewish and Church leaders to avoid controversy during the second world war and the Holocaust here in the U.S. and in Europe -- though there were notable individual courageous and heroic exceptions.

Roman authorities placed into custodial restraint an individual who, it was rumored, intended to enter the temple, deliver a message of truth facing each member of the population at large, and that the temple was being defiled by various practices contrary to the truth. Additional rumors swirled that this individual intended to act violently such as overturning various money exchange tables.

“We support this detention by the authorities. In the past we had asked this person to stay away from the temple.” So stated a person named Sullivan who is associated with the temple. Sullivan added further information that he had heard that the detained individual had made utterances in the past to the effect that he had come to the earth to deliver not peace but the sword.

“Why risk that kind of behavior,” asked Sullivan, noting further that his position was that of his superiors including Bishop McManus. “We don’t need or want to undergo a media outcry. We will not allow principle to be an impediment to our political relationships.” When brought to the attention of Sullivan that Rome was an occupying army, Sullivan turned away.

The JFK Library needn’t look too far for candidates for this year’s Profiles-in-Putty awards.

So avoiding 'controversy' is now a virtue of the church?

You know, I can't remember Jesus taking that kind of role. He was ... he was pretty confrontational to the religious elite who wanted Jesus to go away.

They should let RS speak. I'm sure lots of people in that conference would want to hear what RS has to say, not all of them are dhimmis.

Better yet, why not a debate at the conference between Spencer and Dr. Amjad Bahnassi, since Bahnassi has obviously read all of Spencer's books on Islam and Islam's prophet.

The Truth about islam and company isn't popular with islamic supremacists and their tools, so of course they'll find a way to lie and call it "hate", no matter what. Stick to the Truth anyway, Robert, we know you will. Best to you always and on that day.

Oh, and I already signed the petition on another thread ...

“The bishop felt that by disinviting him we would be avoiding a problem in casting a bad light on Christian-Islamic relations,” Msgr. Sullivan said. “Why risk that?”

Just look at what Muslim attacks on Christians are doing in several countries....

Hi, Awake, hope you are well ...and a belated Happy New Year to you and yours.

“I was not looking for a problem,” he said. “The bishop felt that by disinviting him we would be avoiding a problem in casting a bad light on Christian-Islamic relations,” Msgr. Sullivan said. “Why risk that?”
-- Msgr. Sullivan
I see. Praying for the martyrs in the Roman Colosseum would have case a bad light on Christian-Roman relations.

Is this guy nuts, stupid or just morally vacant?

Yo! Skippy! Real, live, old fashioned Christian martyrdom is back BIG TIME. It's spreading like wild fire across the middle east, north Africa and has already gotten to Europe.

How about you raise a prayer for the oppressed instead of pretending that nothing is happening.

"Why risk that?" I'll tell you why. To honor the souls of the suffering. To stand up for the innocent. To tell the truth. And to obey the basic principles of your faith -- assuming that you actually believe.

You claim to be a Catholic. One assumes you've at least heard of what it means for someone to die for their faith in Christ !!!!!

Man up or get lost.

'MAN BITES DOG' story!

The Boston Globe has taken a stand AGAINST free expression and IN FAVOR of censorship.

Why is it OK to blaspheme the Roman Catholic Church in America, but WRONG and RACIST to blaspheme Mohammed?

Something's wrong with this!

Boston Globe, get your head on straight!

Do you favor free speech or ISLAMIC BLASPHEMY CENSORSHIP?

Good for you, Robert!

Is there an e-mail address for Msgr. Sullivan?

In an effort to understand both sides, I read all of Sheila Musaji's critique of this post.

Her first objection is in regard to the title used by Robert in citing Simon Cantarini's article http://www.asianews.it/news-en/Islamists-chase-nuns-from-Libya,-people-pray-for-their-return-27021.html.

Robert appears to have changed it from the original

"Islamists chase nuns from Libya, people pray for their return" to

"Muslims threaten nuns, force them to leave the country".

Touché. Not a big deal in my view but Robert should have kept the original title to avoid all appearance of bias. This oversight gave Sheila the opening she needed to proclaim

"The impression he attempts to give is that this event was caused by Islam."

She advances her case with

"Nowhere does Spencer mention that MUSLIMS are being terrorized by these same extremists,...".

However, Robert Spencer's concern for "terrorized" Muslims is a matter of record, especially women and girls who commit the dishonor of being raped, or those murdered in the West who dared to shed the head scarf in order to assimilate with their piers at school or at work. Sheila knows Robert's track record on this but still completes her thought in the same sentence

"...or that the majority of the MUSLIM Libyans are angry about the threats to the nuns."

In fact the article reprinted by Robert makes that very point. Nevertheless Sheila contends that Robert hides that truth. I would count that as the first incontrovertible deceit in her critique.

Next she claims that Robert altered the article. He did not, except for having paraphrased the title - an innocent mistake in my judgment. The only difference between her reproduction of the article and Roberts is that she bolded certain of its sentences.

She implies treachery by Robert in her statements

"I am certain that most of them did not actually read the article in Asia News that Spencer distorted to get across his own bigoted message." and

"The facts of what happened do not back up Spencer’s bigoted distortions.".

Actually the only distortion of the article is her's by having bolded sentences that were originally in plain type.

Next she takes issue with Robert's having alluded to a recent reneging on an invitation to address the Worcester Catholic Men’s Conference. Sheila claims

"This is an attempt to use a terrible political situation in Libya to cover his embarrassment at being dis-invited from speaking on Islam at a Catholic conference in that diocese.".

The emotions Robert expressed were outrage, sadness, surprise, and perplexity that this proud Catholic organization so easily buckled to pressure from some Muslim spokesman. I detected in Robert not the slightest hint of embarrassment.

It may be hard for Robert to keep his promise not to say anything abusive or hateful if he starts quoting from the Koran or aHadith. That would be racist, too. Right?

So I guess the Worcester Knights of Columbus remain silent? They can't offer RS the KofC Hall for his presentation? And they pretend to be Defenders of the Faith?

@Murray

Touché... Bias? Muslims like the ones from CAIR don't even like the term "Islamist":

http://www.jihadwatch.org/2013/01/hamas-linked-cair-urges-media-to-drop-use-of-term-islamist.html

But you don't see mythomaniacs like Sheila having a problem with them.

I just sent Monsignor Thomas Sullivan an e-mail like no other he has ever received...I fully expect a freindly return E-mail from him...

“The bishop felt that by disinviting him we would be avoiding a problem in casting a bad light on Christian-Islamic relations,” Msgr. Sullivan said. “Why risk that?”
Have these fellows ever read the Gospels?
Did they call for a bowl of water and
like Pontius Pilate "wash their hands" of the problem?

freindly return

That's supposed to be friendly, but I'm not as good at typing and eating beans at the same time as I used to be...

The Cleansing of the Temple. Excellent catch Lorenzo!

Would that be an "unvitation" a la Elaine from Seinfeld? lol!

Oh well, Mr. Spencer can handle being needled by blowhards of these types anyway, not much of a biggie for him.

Petitioned signed, and an Obama economy sized donation made !

Let 'em have it, Robert - your perseverance is unmatched !

Thanks for being my voice !

SIgned and donated to...
I'm hoping that people who are social media savvy can make sure this petition gets to be displayed on every counter jihad site everywhere. Like all those listed on this site.
I'd do it if I only knew how. The number is rising way to slowly for something as important as this in a country as big as the USA.
If you're a techhead, this would be better than a donation!

................

Meryl, these are *not* "Muslim nuns". Islam has no monastic tradition at all.

These are Catholic nuns—specifically, the Franciscan Sisters of the infant Jesus of Barce and the Ursuline Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Beida.

Even more than this, Islam has *no* tradition of real charity.

These Christian sisters are in Libya, providing medical and elder care to the primarily Muslim population there.

Even though they do not proselytize, the "Islamists" want them gone, and are threatening the nuns with violence—even though—or *because* they are loved by many of the Muslims whom they are helping.

Murray, no publication or blog is bound to use the same headline in citing a story. If you check, you will see that virtually every publication that, say, picks up a story from AP or Reuters will use a different headline—sometimes for reasons of space, sometimes to emphasize this or that aspect of the story.

As for this "giving her an opening", Muslim apologists like Musaji don't need "an opening"—they will just make one themselves, even if they have to lie to do so.

Musaji writes like rabbits f*kc.

No one takes her seriously, especially not the 1.5 gazillion mad muslims she hopes to incite.

Perhaps Musaji needs to be reminded that the overwhelming majority of these people are illiterate, stoopid and poor because of Islam, and she'd better concentrate her efforts in that direction than attacking those who point out the shortcomings of Islam.

Musaji has a few screws loose and she's desperate to prove it.

When Spencer says 'Sheila Musaji is a deeply dishonest serial liar who would like us all to forget that "Islamists" are indeed Muslims' he's got it exactly right.

But even that is far too generous.

If we bother to acknowledge her existence by responding to her we start smelling like the sewer she crawled out of.

Musaji writes like rabbits f*kc.

Ali Sina gives a hilarious expose of Sheila. The woman is so non compos mentis, she didn't even notify Ali Sina that she had written a whole column in an attempt to "refute" him.

http://alisina.org/blog/2012/01/25/an-olive-branch-for-sheila-musaji/

I read all that, thanks for the link...Sheila's response to Sina was a long game of her dodging the ball...Since the article and comments were a year old, I just read it, and left no comment...

Signed the petition with the following comment:
Bishop McManus, cancelling out Mr Robert Spencer's talk at the diocese without reading his material is a very short-sighted step on your part.
Since Christians are being persecuted by muslims in many parts of the world, it becomes your duty as a Christian Bishop to throw light on what exactly makes muslims persecute Christians. Instead of doing that you and/or others from your diocese have supported other muslims in shutting down the talk of this one man who (amongst others) throws light on the ideology of islam thereby explaining why muslims persecute Christians and others.
Sir, Mr Spencer deserves your support, not your scorn or your hypocrisy. He only highlights the uncharitable and violent actions of muslims. Is he to be insulted for this? Or should you laud him for speaking up for the unprotected Christians and others of this world?
Please re-consider your decision and allow him to speak at your diocese.
Thank you,
Khushi

The locution of Sheila Musaji's Tweet doesn't lend itself to the interpretation that she is referring to Muslim nuns -- because she says "Muslims AND Catholic nuns" [emphasis added for clarification], thus distinguishing the two categories. To be referring to "Muslim nuns" she would have to have written:

"Muslim and Catholic nuns" where the "Muslim" becomes the adjectival form; whereas in her Tweet it is clearly, by its plural form, the noun.

Also, I doubt Musaji is so stupid she wouldn't know that her Islam hates the whole institution of monasticism and nuns (a hatred not unconsanguineous with the Reformation antipathy to it).

Petition signed, commented and contributed to.

The bishops are supposed to feed His sheep, but they're not supposed to feed the flock a load of malarkey.

Bishop McManus:
If all the clergy opts for caving in to intimidation, Christianity does not have what it takes to survive Bishop McManus.

Change your mind as a good Christian that you are and let Robert Spencer expose the truth. Jesus of Nazareth was all about the truth and you must act in the footsteps of Jesus, our savior. Thank you Bishop for the change of mind you are going to have because we all love Jesus. God Bless you Bishop McManus.

joeblough,

I hear your anger, and I resonate with it. You put into words exactly how I feel -- not only now, but also a little over six years ago, which was one of the defining moments for me as my Learning Curve on the problem of Islam got another jolt of outrage (other moments for me have included, along with, of course, 911, also the London bombings, and the Mumbai rampage).

I don't know why I was so touched by one other particular event, back in September of 2006, when an elderly Catholic nun (an Italian named Leonella Sgorbati -- about whom I had written on my blog a tribute titled Saint Leonella) who had spent her life helping poor children in Somalia was shot in the back three times by two Muslims who had taken to heart the murderous Friday sermon they had heard only days before, when a prominent Islamic cleric at the main mosque of Mogadishu preached:

“Whoever offends our Prophet Muhammad should be killed on the spot by the nearest Muslim.”

The occasion for this atrocity of thought, speech and action by Muslims was the Pope's lecture at Regensburg -- the typical Islamic excuse du jour.

And what was the reaction of Catholics in the aftermath of that atrocity (not to mention others that flared up around the world at that time)? Pretty much the same they have had in response to Muslim atrocities before and since; all predicated on precisely this anxious concern not to ruffle the feathers or break the eggshells of their precious "Abrahamic dialogue" they imagine they are having with their Imaginary Muslim Friends.

(Another of my essays -- "I like to wake up and smell my Islamic coffee black, no milk" -- is apposite in this regard.)

There is nothing so cravenly cowardly and morally despicable as a man (whether he be an ordinary layperson or a lofty Monsignor) who behaves as though there is a knife at his throat, when there is none -- all the while casting his cowardice as some form of politically correct, holier-than-thou and starry-eyed righteousness.

In closing, I would love to add a commonly recognized epithet, in the form of three words -- the first the f word (not "faith") in the imprecatory form, the second the second person object in the accusative form, the third the honorary title of this bloated buffoon -- that in this context would acquire almost an aura of a solemn invocation to express our outrage; nay, our fury. But, alas, I shall restrain myself, at least for now.

“The bishop felt that by disinviting him we would be avoiding a problem in casting a bad light on Christian-Islamic relations,” Msgr. Sullivan said. “Why risk that?”
Because you pay a price of silence about Islamic atrocities to Christians and even to Muslims for Christian-Islamic relations. Christians are being persecuted throughout the world by Muslims and you remains silent to protect Christian Muslim relations.

The islamists have a special way to use words or arguments to hide first the real sick nature of islam, to hide and cover the true facts of islam.
It is clear that they deny the leading nature of the human rights in the declaration of the UNO with the declaration of Cairo. In fact they lie always, they use false arguments, always. But in our days all intelligent people can translate the Quran and the other scriptures of islam. So cannot tell that the quran have been wrong translated and all the other in not pure Arabic written scriptures. They always try to be superiour against the West. The other lie ist that they have been leading the science in the medevian times, but in fact they have stolen all wisdom and science from the Indians, all the Vedic scriptures and the Sanskrit numbers.
The socalled Arabic numbers are in fact Sanskrit numbers. In the ancient times the people in the Near East used consonants as numbers and calculated in consonants.
In the denial of the true facts of islam, they will never have any pogress in thinking and science, they are only in big ignorance.
And the Saudis use their money to manipulate the MSM, the Corporate Media.

In the article:

"Dr. Amjad Bahnassi, a member of and spokesman for the Islamic Society of Greater Worcester, said Mr. Spencer’s views are “well-known” and “hateful and offensive.”
“He has made it very clear he hates Islam,” Dr. Bahnassi said. “This is a person who is biased in his views.”"

If Dr. Amjad Bahnassi believes this to be, than wouldn't having a dialogue in the spirit of freedom of speech, the Bill of Rights version as opposed to the sharia version, be the way to air this out rather than denying Mr. Spencer's "rights" to be heard?

What the Roman Catholic Diocese of Worcester seems to be doing here is not only trampling on Mr. Spencer's right to speak, besides the fact that they reneged on his invitation, but also trampling on the right/s of those that might attend to hear and decide for themselves.

The article states that "Bishop Robert J. McManus pulled the invitation to avoid a controversy", seems to be bowing down to the god of PC rather than standing up with and for the most controversial human being that ever walked this planet.

Father Jomier in the sixties was a Catholic priest with first hand experience of moslemic supremicism. I read two of his books, 'How to Understand Islam' and 'The Bible vs the Koran'. Maybe the good Bishop should read them. They state in much 'softer' terms what you state in you writings, speeches and debated.

Please refer to Martin Niemoller's quote. This situation is nothing short of that.
