Egypt protest targets Morsi palace as violence flares

Free people not going quietly into the Sharia night. “Egypt protest targets Morsi palace as violence flares,” from AFP, February 1 (thanks to Pamela Geller):

CAIRO: Protesters and security forces clashed at the presidential palace on Friday as thousands of people rallied in cities across the country against Egypt’s divisive leader President Mohamed Morsi.

The Republican Guard appealed for calm as demonstrators hurled petrol bombs over the palace walls and security forces responded with water cannon and tear gas and troops fired warning shots into the night sky.

Egypt’s official MENA news agency quoted a Republican Guard statement as saying protesters had tried to enter the palace grounds. Police then advanced on the protesters in armoured vehicles, firing tear gas.

People took to the streets in a show of opposition to Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood after a wave of deadly unrest swept the country last week in the worst violence since Morsi was elected president last June.

Protesters marched through rare rainfall towards the capital’s iconic Tahrir Square and the presidential palace, chanting “Freedom!” and “Morsi is illegitimate!”Scores of protesters skirmished with riot police several hundred metres (yards) from the square, witnesses said, and two were wounded by birdshot fired by police.

The clashes were less intense than in last week’s unrest which resulted in 56 deaths, mostly in Port Said, where violence erupted after 21 residents were sentenced to death on Saturday over football-related violence a year ago.

Thousands of people protested in the canal city on Friday calling for Morsi’s removal, unfazed by a strong military presence, and similar marches also took place in the Mediterranean port city of Alexandria.

The opposition National Salvation Front (NSF) joined rival factions on Thursday in condemning violence and supporting efforts for a national dialogue.

But the coalition of mainly liberal and leftist groups also called Friday”s protests demanding a unity government and amendment of the Islamic-drafted constitution which polarised the nation when it was passed in December.

The opposition accuses Morsi of betraying the revolution that toppled president Hosni Mubarak two years ago and took him to the presidency.

“We”re here because we are sick of people lying to us,” said protester Ahmed Metwalli in Tahrir Square.

“I voted for Morsi. I thought the Brotherhood, more than any group, would have understood the concept of injustice and try to fix it, but they failed,” the 27-year-old engineering graduate added.

In a statement, the NSF said Egyptians would demonstrate nationwide against “a regime that seeks to impose its will on the people and is managing the country in the interest of the Brotherhood.”

Aah, the Arab Spring. How the foolish World cheered to see the oppressed people shaking off the shackles of dictatorship and embracing the liberty and peace that democracy would bring.
    Fat chance!
Where are the supporters now? Where are the liberals? Are they still cheering on the Arab spring? Have they not admitted that they were wrong, and people like us were right?
Well, not quite. They’re still cheering the Arab Spring but in quieter voices, only raising their cheers when Syria is mentioned. After all Syria’s spring is still springing and unlike Mubarak and Ghadaffi, Assad hasn’t gone yet. What do these idiots think is going to appear when he does go? Red roses, and unicorns, I expect.
Egypt, Libya and Tunisia, were shit-holes before but are even bigger shit-holes now!
The trouble with Leftist idiots is that they never learn anything and will never admit that they were wrong.

  2. says

No. It is very rare that leftists admit they were wrong ( it has happened but then they end up not being leftists anymore. ) but liberals can be made to at least shut up. And that is sometimes enough to turn the tide of opinion. Keep on speaking!

  3. says

Free people? I thought this was a hodge-podge of Morsi haters and murderous soccer hooligans protesting the massive death verdicts of their buddies for the slaughter of another team’s fans.

“‘I voted for Morsi. I thought the Brotherhood, more than any group, would have understood the concept of injustice and try to fix it, but they failed,’ the 27-year-old engineering graduate added.” — headline

Where did this young man ever get the mistaken idea that the Muslim Brotherhood would “fix” things? From the lying MB and their ilk, that’s who! Well, I feel your pain, young man, since here in America people voted for that liar and promise breaker, obama–and they voted for him not once, but twice!…wow, now that’s insane.

  5. says

The Arab Spring, was never was a spring to begin with (who gave it that silly name anyway?)…

Not all Arabs are stupid, some of them know which side of the bread the butter is on…Sharia is long on bread, short on butter…
If the Egyptian people want butter, they have to get rid of Morsi and any notion of sharia…

  6. says

Even if, against all odds, these protesters were to somehow succeed at ousting Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood, what or who would realistically replace these Sharia striving Islamists? Another group of Salafists who are just as eager to experience the earthly paradise of Sharia? Who really thinks that a considerable bulk of Egyptian Mohammedans are willing to settle for ‘Islam lite’? Highly unlikely. The nature and doctrines of Islam always gravitate to Muslims wanting and demanding more and more Islam. And what does more Islam mean. It means Sharia. And what is Sharia? Simply the product of devout and learned Islamic scholars earnestly pouring over Islam’s canonical texts – The Qur’an, hadith and sira.

Islam’s canonical texts state that Islam is a perfect religion (Qur’an, 5:3), and that Muhammad’s behaviour is an “excellent pattern of conduct” for Muslims to follow (Qur’an,33:21). In light of all this, people, most especially the Muslims themselves, are going to eventually have to accept the fact that Islam must be wholly abandoned. All other schemes are delusion.

We ex-Muslims living with Islam’s formal and informal death penalty for apostasy know that the cruel, über violent cult of Mohammedanism is a despicable fraud.

And speaking as an ex-Muslim, what I find most odd about Islam’s non-Muslim supporters is that they seem incapable of making the leap of logic to grasp the fact that when non-Muslims support and/or defend Islam, they are supporting and/or defending the following:

    * Slavery:

    Qur’an 16:71
And Allah hath favored some of you above others in provision. Now those who are more favored will by no means hand over their provision to those (slaves) whom their right hands possess, so that they may be equal with them in respect thereof. Is it then the grace of Allah that they deny?

    http://wikiislam.net/wiki/Qur'an,_Hadith_and_Scholars:Slavery#Islam_Permits_Slavery

    * Sex Slavery:

    Hadith, Sahih Bukhari Vol.7, Bk.62, No.137:

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri: We got female captives in the war booty and we used to do coitus interruptus with them. So we asked Allah’s Apostle about it and he said, “Do you really do that?” repeating the question thrice, “There is no soul that is destined to exist but will come into existence, till the Day of Resurrection.”

    http://wikiislam.net/wiki/Concerns_with_Islam:_Sexual_Slavery_in_Islam

    * The death for penalty for the apostates of Islam:

In Islam, the rejection in part (of any of the pillars, or individual principles of Islam), or discarding the faith as a whole, amounts to apostasy. It is not a quick or easy affair for an apostate or heterodox believer of Islam, as the punishment for apostasy in the Islamic faith is death. Though it may be argued that this is not clear through the Qur’an alone, scholars have found justification for the penalty from within its pages, and there are also numerous Sahih (authentic) hadiths confirming this punishment as attested by Prophet Muhammad. In Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 9, Book 84, No. 57 we see it as “Allah’s Apostle said, ‘Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him'”, and it was also one of only three reasons given by him where killing a Muslim is permitted.

    * Child molestation:

    Qur’an, 065.004
And (as for) those of your women who have despaired of menstruation, if you have a doubt, their prescribed time shall be three months, and of those too who have not had their courses; and (as for) the pregnant women, their prescribed time is that they lay down their burden; and whoever is careful of (his duty to) Allah He will make easy for him his affair.

    Sahih Bukhari, Vol.7, Bk.62, No.88:

    Narrated Ursa:
The prophet wrote the [marriage contract] with Aisha while she was six years old and consummated his marriage with her while she was nine years old and she remained with him for nine years (i.e.’ til his death).

    * 100 Lashes for unmarried adulterers: Qur’an 24:2

    * Stoning for married adulterers:

    Sahih Bukhari, Vol.8, Bk.82, Number 826:

Narrated Abu Huraira and Zaid bin Khalid:
Two men had a dispute in the presence of Allah’s Apostle. One of them said, “Judge us according to Allah’s Laws.” The other who was more wise said, “Yes, Allah’s Apostle, judge us according to Allah’s Laws and allow me to speak (first)” The Prophet said to him, ‘Speak ” He said, “My son was a laborer for this man, and he committed illegal sexual intercourse with his wife, and the people told me that my son should be stoned to death, but I have given one-hundred sheep and a slave girl as a ransom (expiation) for my son’s sin. Then I asked the religious learned people (about It), and they told me that my son should he flogged one-hundred stripes and should be exiled for one year, and only the wife of this man should be stoned to death ” Allah’s Apostle said, “By Him in Whose Hand my soul is, I will judge you according to Allah’s Laws: O man, as for your sheep and slave girl, they are to be returned to you.” Then the Prophet had the man’s son flogged one hundred stripes and exiled for one year, and ordered Unais Al-Aslami to go to the wife of the other man, and if she confessed, stone her to death. She confessed and was stoned to death.

Islam is no “religion of peace.” Islam is primarily a religion of “injustice, intolerance, hatred, and violence.” The fact is, if we non-Muslims were to say about Muslims what the Qur’an says about us, we would be arrested for hate speech. The Qur’an largely preaches discrimination, death, and imposition of its dogma on everyone. Certainly some Muslims will be offended by such statements, but frankly, so what? Judaism and Christianity, the world’s two other major monotheistic religions, have had to face the harshest of scrutiny and criticism for several hundred years which continues to this day. Islam must not be granted any special privileges or be exempt from such treatment – the implications are of tremendous importance.

Here is a recent statement from a group of Bangladeshi apostates living in the UK explaining the reasons why they have abandoned Islam:

“One who claims to be a messenger of God is expected to live a saintly life. He must not be given to lust, he must not be a sexual pervert, and he must not be a rapist, a highway robber, a war criminal, a mass murderer or an assassin. One who claims to be a messenger of God must have a superior character. He must stand above the vices of the people of his time. Yet Muhammad’s life is that of a gangster godfather. He raided merchant caravans, looted innocent people, massacred entire male populations and enslaved the women and children. He raped the women captured in war after killing their husbands and told his followers that it is okay to have sex with their captives (Qur’an 33:50). He assassinated those who criticized him and executed them when he came to power and became de facto despot of Arabia. Muhammad was bereft of human compassion. He was an obsessed man with his dreams of grandiosity and could not forgive those who stood in his way…

    The statement continues,

Muhammad was a narcissist, like Hitler, Saddam or Stalin. He was astute and knew how to manipulate people, but his emotional intelligence was less evolved than that of a 6-year-old child. He simply could not feel the pain of others. He brutally massacred thousands of innocent people and pillaged their wealth. His ambitions were big and as a narcissist he honestly believed he is entitled to do as he pleased and commit all sorts of crimes and his evil deeds are justified.”

Surprise, surprise, surprise. And, exactly how did they think the Muslim Brotherhood would rule? With freedom & openess? The Egyptians were duped into voting for a tiger that very predictably showed their stripes & fangs once in office. The only people on the planet who seem to be surprised by this duping are the Egyptians. I wish them well as they attempt to reclaim what they earned through blood, sweat & tears and then quickly gave away just months ago – “their freedom”. Good luck with that! Giving it away is painless. Getting it back = not so much.

I leave comments on Jihadwatch plenty as you well know since you’ve no doubt researched my name with this site. I’ve been here for years. You sir, are a bully and I don’t like it. I will continue to hound you and your bullying remarks for all to see.

  9. says

In an otherwise frightening world of Islamic advancement, this is truly a light of hope. I hope those Molotov cocktails hit Morsi. This man and this movement really need to die in short order.

As a recovering Leftard, I can say that the comments about Lefties are right on the mark on a number of counts.

Leftists will continue to highly unpleasantly surprised as Islam shows its true feelings and aims toward it. Useful Idiots and Destruction.

  10. says

This is a very educational website and I enjoy reading the comments here, but using the non-sensical word “Leftist” in every other sentence gets very tiresome.

Let us not forget that the Arab Spring was no Leftist conspiracy but had the backing of the topmost eschelons of Western leaders, NATO and the CIA, and Saudi Arabia too did its part to arm the rebels or mercenaries. The Muslim Brotherhood was backed by both American and European leaders (who by the way are all Conservative and not Leftist). Another point I would like to make is that we should not buy into the illusion that the President is the sole person who decides foreign policy. He just rubber stamps decision taken at a higher level. The Council of Foreign Relations, being one such supra-Presidential body. Hillary Clinton in her capacity as Secretary of State is on record admitting that decisions are taken at the CFR level before they are made into policy and implemented. And if you google members of the CFR, you will not find one “Leftist” among them. Membership in the CFR is not by election but by invitation and they remain there no matter which party is in government.

  11. says

“Where are the supporters now? Where are the liberals?”

So true, Softly Bob, and those are great questions! Well, they’re either keeping a low profile, or they’re busy throwing Conservatives under the bus …”Hey, it’s their fault!”

  12. says

When the President of the United States says Israel should return to her 1967 borders, leftists cheer.
When the President of the United States says that Islam is the religion of peace, leftists cheer.
When the President of the United States says that jihad terrorism is nothing to do with Islam, leftists cheer.

You get the picture…?! By the way, the list goes on and on, and so does leftist cheering.

Wise up! You’re light years behind the curve!

  13. says

Can’t you count? I see only one use of the word Leftist in that comment, so it wasn’t used in “every other sentence” as you stated. Oh and thank you for raising the standard of “educational” excellence on Jihad Watch by demonstrating how to exaggerate.

  14. says

And I know that you meant he used the word Leftist figuratively–in every other sentence, not literally. I just couldn’t resist poking fun at you, since you began by claiming that this is such an eductional website, and then you ruined your intro by focusing on one word: Leftist, as if that reaaaally hit a nerve with you! I mean the irony still makes me laugh, so thank you for the good humor ;-D

  15. says

And if you google members of the CFR, you will not find one “Leftist” among them.’

The membership list never state the politics of members, but you can figure some of them out if you know who they are…Diane Fienstien for one…Newt Gingrich for another…Not all CFR members are leftists, but some of them are…

  16. says

You’re a clown, plain and simple …I learned this from that other thread where all YOU did was stir up trouble. You’re only here to belittle others yourself.

    Own a mirror?

    Oh the irony!

  17. says

No, you are the bully. Obviously …since your only “contribution” here is a bullying comment, and you wrote *nothing* regarding the headline as an offering. And your ONLY contributions on that other thread was to bully others like you’re doing here, I mean Hello!

    Again, own a mirror?

If you can’t see that, then you are deep in denial …

  18. says

    You wrote:

“I will continue to hound you and your bullying remarks for all to see.”

You will continue to “HOUND” me?

Well, aren’t you the tough guy.

A tough guy filled with massive hate …

and hate is all they’ll “see” while you “hound” me.

  19. says

How do you define Leftists? Surely, in American politics, there are no leftist in power. No reds under the bed, no Marxists in positions of power in government or in the Press.

Also, one has to note that American political and public discourse seems to operate so far to the right that right of centre politicians in the UK for example, would be seen as liberals when compared to members of the mainstream Republican Party. Suffice it to say that both the Democrats and Republicans parties are both Rightist parties, the only difference being one of degree.

And if the Left, as you say, are for Islam, then how did France with its Socialist culture and President attack the Islamists in Mali and what about that great Leftist, the late Oriana Fallacci, the great anti-Islam crusader and friend of RS?

I just think that the overuse of this nonsensical word detracts from the main message of this web site, especially since it is used in the context of childish name-calling. And by the way, why should calling someone “Leftist” be pejorative but being labelled ‘Rightist’ i.e. Fascist or fascist leaning, deemed to be a compliment? After all, Islam is commonly referred to as “Islamo-Fascism”.

As for those statement that you quoted made by successive American Presidents that favored Islam or bashed Israel (which according to you made the ‘Leftists” so happy that they cheered), what does tell you about American Foreign Policy when it comes to these two topics? It should be very obvious, one would think.
