Memo to Davutoglu: The Syrian state has no "dignity" left for Israel to "play with." Somehow, it got swept away in the tide of murder, blood, and torture that the world knows as the Syrian Revolution.

And, Mr. Davutoglu, your assertion that Turkey won't "stand by as Israel attacks a Muslim country" is startling for its hypocrisy, double standards, and myopia. Apparently it's not the "attack on a Muslim country" part that bothers you (Turkey attacks Muslim Kurds, Assad attacks Muslim Syrians, Sunni and Shia Muslims routinely attack each other in various conflicts, and Muslim-on-Muslim violence is endemic to many parts of the Middle East and north Africa—and Turkey says little). It must be the "Israel" part that bothers you.

True to form, you are reminding us that Turkey never misses an opportunity to slam Israel.

Will Turkey demand that NATO Patriot missile batteries (US, German and Dutch) near the Syrian frontier be used to target IDF planes in Syrian airspace? That's why Turkey wanted those units isn't it?

Let us not forget that Turkish Muslims - the 'Ottoman Empire' - used to rule over a vast swath of the Islamosphere, all the way from the Barbary States of the North African littoral, through Egypt, the Levant (including eretz Israel, and places now known as Jordan, Lebanon and Syria), Iraq, and most of the Arabian Peninsula.

They were hated and resented by the Arab Muslims, because Arab Muslims look down on non-Arab Muslims.

And they 'tolerated' dhimmi Jews, if suitably bribed, but life under Ottoman Turkish Muslim rule was NOT peaches and roses for Jews, far from it.

As we see from this blunt summation of the situation, by a humble Aussie lighthorseman, Trooper no. 135, Ion L Idriess, in his book ' The Desert Column' (which as well as describing Gallipoli, also describes the magnificent WWI mostly-on-horseback campaign of the British and Australians against the Ottoman Turkish Muslims, from Egypt up as far as Jaffa where Idriess got the wound that put him out of the war):

If you ever encounter anybody spouting nonsense about how good the Jews in 'Palestine' had it under the Turkish Muslims, living among Arab and Turkish Muslims, before the Mandate and before those eeevil uppity Jooze, the Zionists, broke the dhimma by daring to reclaim and defend Jewish sovereignty in Jewish traditional land, quote them those lines from Idriess: "They (the Jews) seem to live between two devils, the Turk and the Arab....The Turk prevents the Arab from massacring them outright, because the Jews are a very handy people to squeeze taxes from...".

In the first article, there is massive confirmation of Idriess' laconic observation about the Jewish communities that the Australian light horse, riding into 'Palestine', encountered, namely, that 'lots of them have had a hard time from the Turks'.

*This* is what that 'hard time' consisted in:

"During World War I in Palestine, between 1915 and 1917, the New York Times published a series of reports 74 on Ottoman-inspired and local Arab Muslim assisted antisemitic persecution which affected Jerusalem, and the other major Jewish population centers.

"For example, by the end of January, 1915, 7000 Palestinian Jewish refugees—men, women, and children—had fled to British-controlled Alexandria, Egypt.

"Three New York Times accounts from January/February, 1915 provide these details of the earlier period:

"By April of 1917, conditions deteriorated further for Palestinian Jewry, which faced threats of annihilation from the Ottoman government.

"Many Jews were in fact deported, expropriated, and starved, in an ominous parallel to the genocidal deportations of the Armenian dhimmi communities throughout Anatolia.

"Indeed, as related by Yair Auron:

'Fear of the Turkish actions was bound up with alarm that the Turks [that is, the Turkish Muslims and the Arab Muslims along with them - dda] might do to the Jewish community in Palestine, or at least to the Zionist elements within it, what they had done to the Armenians. This concern was expressed in additional evidence from the early days of the war, from which we can conclude that the Armenian tragedy was known in the Yishuv [Jewish community in Palestine]

"A mass expulsion of the Jews of Jerusalem, although ordered twice by Djemal Pasha, was averted only through the efforts of [the Ottoman Turks World War I allies] the German government which sought to avoid international condemnation.'

The 8000 Jews of Jaffa, however, were expelled quite brutally, a cruel fate the Arab Muslims and the Christians of the city did not share...".

One stray Syrian shell into Turkish territory, which may well have come from the rebels, mind you, and you run for NATO protection from “Syrian attacks”, yet when Israel takes a protective measure to defend its citizens you cry foul, you bloody hypocrite! But what else is new in the Islamic Republic of Turkey?
