Does this Bishop of Worcester get these articles or does he feel that it's better for him not to know that 1000 Christians are murdered by Islamic terrorists each year in Nigeria?

If 1000 Christians were murdered each year in Massachusetts, would that change his mind about dialogue.

Who will declare war on Boko Haram to stop the growing killings of Christians in Nigeria.

At what point will someone say enough is enough. Imagine if we had a Muslim terrorist group like Boko Haram roaming the communities of America killing Christians and destroying thousands of churches.

Nigeria doesn't want an all-out war, such as the Biafran Conflict which pitted Christian south against Muslim north. It would be genocidal. The president of Nigeria needs a lot of wisdom to keep this a POLICE matter and not turn it into a civil war.

I don't get it. where the f... are the police or the military to help? those people should take up arms. This is the only way. Jihadists only know guns and brute force.

Islam - the religion of destruction.

Miriam...the Nigerian police have Muslim officers who take their time getting to the scene of the crime. Nigeria is divided by tribalism. Women have been asked not to bring purses to church. Metal detectors are used at the door. Security guards must be hired for church services. Vigilantism is not the Christian approach. It's a matter for the national police. They need more undercover officers to locate the terror cells.

They think that by destroying buildings that they can destroy Jesus' church? No they can't!

Jesus said:

"And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it."

The church is comprised of the body of Christ; the church are all born-again believers, and nothing can destroy what Jesus has saved, not even hell itself can destroy His church.

Go ahead, knock down every church building on the planet, but you will never destroy the church of Jesus Christ!

Something to think about: it is perfectly possible, given the information that comes to me from sources such as Barnabas Fund, that many of those persecuted Catholic Christians (like their Protestant brethren, whether Anglican or of other stripes) especially in the north of Nigeria where the general population is more than 60 percent Muslim may be...apostates from Islam.

Borno is in the far northeast corner of Nigeria, with borders against Muslim-majority Niger (to the north) and Chad (about 52 percent Muslim, 38 percent Christian [and the Christian rate of growth is just .1 percentage point lower than that of the Muslims], and 7 percent 'traditional beliefs') to the east.

In my previous copy of my Christian sourcebook, 'Operation World', the rough percentages of religious affiliation were included for all regions of Nigeria. Therefore, it was possible to discover that the 'northeast' states of Nigeria (Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Katsina, Taraba, Yobe) ran as follows (ca 2000, i.e. ten years ago) - Muslim 50 percent, traditional 30 percent, Christian 20 percent. In the rest of the northern zone -and this northern and northeast zone is the most heavily Islamised part of Nigeria, even there Muslims did not have an overwhelming majority - the percentages were Muslim 67 %, Traditional 20 %, Christian 13 %. (So in the most heavily Islamic part of Nigeria non-Muslims still came in at 33 percent, nearly a third of the population.)

The current issue of Operation World [published 2010] doesn't give a precise breakdown for the different regions, but merely notes that 'estimates for Muslims [in the whole of Nigeria] vary between 30 and 55 percent, for Christians between 40 and 65 %' [the overall guesstimate in the previous edition was around 52 percent Christian, 41 percent Muslim, which falls within the ranges of the current estimates). It then states that 'eight states [not named] appear to be overwhelmingly Muslim, 18 are overwhelmingly Christian, and 10 are split around 50 % of each".

What is interesting is that the approximate guesstimated rates of growth of Christianity and of Islam in Nigeria given in that second edition of 'Operation World', are the same (that is, they are growing at an equal rate, about 2.7 %, so at the moment we can say that in Nigeria, *despite* all the persecution the Muslims are dishing out, Christianity is 'holding steady' vis a vis Islam; *all* varieties of Christianity are growing, with the 'Protestant' group - as also the Anglicans, who are listed separately from the other Protestants - having a rate of increase *faster* than that of Islam).

The Church Universal should be doing much, much more to support and encourage the Christians - as well as other non-Muslims - of Nigeria, and to speak out loudly on their behalf.
