#MyJihad in Wales: Muslim jailed for possessing "terrorist's manual," 39 Ways to Serve and Proceed in Jihad

What's the big deal? The poor guy wanted to get in his exercise. What's the problem here? "Graduate jailed over terror offence," from the Belfast Telegraph, March 20 (thanks to Kenneth):

An engineering graduate who applied to work at the Olympics has been jailed for nine months for a terror offence.
Norman Idris Faridi, 32, was turned down after applying to work last summer at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, where some football matches for the London 2012 Games were held.

The Kenyan national was later found to have a "terrorist's manual", 39 Ways To Serve And Proceed In Jihad, on his external hard drive and in a deleted file.

Faridi, of Pen-y-Wain, Cathays, Cardiff, was also found to have downloaded a video of extremist preacher Abu Hamza on to his mobile phone.

Sentencing him at the Old Bailey, Judge Gerald Gordon said: "Nothing I can see suggests that the item had been stored in some special way or special file. Nor is there in fact anything to suggest that you or anyone else had actually made use of it during the time it was in your possession.

"On the other hand, Parliament has determined that such is the need to protect the public from acts of terrorism that possessing material that may help those contemplating terrorism should be against the law and it should be punished in particular to deter others."

The judge also ordered that Faridi, who is married with a young child, should be deported after serving his sentence. He had been found guilty at trial of possessing records likely to be useful to someone preparing or committing an act of terrorism.

A similar charge of having al Qaida's Inspire magazine was ordered to lie on file after the jury could not reach a verdict. Faridi was cleared of a third charge of having a guide to fighting techniques for a similar purpose.

The court heard of the Kenyan's bid to work at the Olympics during a bail hearing last year.

The former Glamorgan University aeronautics engineering student, who graduated in 2010, renewed his visa and stayed on in Britain with his wife. He was working in a bakery when police raided his home and took away computer equipment in April last year.

This is confusing. The guy gets a prison sentence while the judge says he can find no miss-behaviour. This sounds draconian. Does this mean I will get a prison sentence if I download the same? Can someone explain why our “pal” Anjem Choudrey isn’t permanently installed in a concrete box? Max.

This is a tough one. Probably Norman Idris Faridi *was* contemplating Jihad—and yet, this is just the sort of thing that Anti-Jihadists might have on their computers or cell phones, as well.

This is just odd—there are actual Jihadists and overt preachers of Jihad such as Abu Qatada who are being protected from deportation

It really sounds as though there is more to this story—the police are not, as a rule, raiding random foreign students homes and confiscating their computers. Hmmm...I wish I knew if something more were going on here...

Well, he's going to be deported, that's one good thing.

One less Mohammedan in the UK.

I would encourage British jihadwatchers to keep a weather eye on this case, and make sure that, when the time comes, he really *is* deported.

DDA. Not just 1 because I would expect (or hope) that his wife and child will also go.So that probably means the prevention of 50 or more given muslim propensity to breed + "family re-union" (much fake, and related to our seriously lax benefits system).

Choudery not permanently in a concrete box? Well Max he is a Muslim so our laws don't apply to him - or didn't you know?
I think I also read that, in addition to significant free benefits which he calls "jihadist seekers allownance", he is also under expensive police protection.
Funny that, unlike indigenous unemployed Brits, he seems not to be required to seek work on threat of withdrawal of his JSA. Nor do the authorities seem to bother to investigate how he finances extensive travel within the UK and Europe.
The real problem of course is that he was born here so cannot be deported. Silly argument - he wouldn't be deported anyway since we happily allow foreign criminals, like Abu Qutada, and many, to stay.
Then again he is a "bellwether" in that he isn't quite following Muslim norms since he so frequently blows the gaff on intentions. Maybe (I seriously hope)our security services give him such free reign so as to be an unknowing "informant"

The other night I watched a TV programme about the City of London Police. A very drunk troublemaker had been ejected from a nightclub. One of the FIRST things he said was "I am a Muslim". I think that gives a clue as to how they think that they are above the law. The City Police took little notice but I wonder for how much longer.

He probably stayed on in the UK after a stay under a student visa by obtaining a Tier 1 (Post-study work) visa. That route has closed but it provided non-EU citizens with "a bridge to highly skilled or skilled work".
Now he's working in a bakery? Aeronautical engineering? Skilled work?
He should have been deported long ago, terrorist literature or no.
Mind you, perhaps it's a good thing that he didn't get a skilled aircraft maintenance job allowing him unfettered air-side access at a UK airport.

Wow. Waled Online is getting bold as MSM goes. They've headlined the story of his sentencing as "Jihadist who tried to work at Millennium Stadium during Olympics is jailed". Now they'll be lambasted for misusing "Jihad" in that way. Don't they know that jihad should only be used to refer to his non-violent struggles such as baking the bread without burning it, and dodging the visa regulations.

He was working in a bakery when police raided his home and took away computer equipment in April last year.

This followed him being questioned returning to the UK at Heathrow in December 2011 and his deleting a number of files when he got home.

He was arrested in July last year when 39,000 deleted files were examined.

He told police he was born into a Muslim sect but was interested in converting to being a Sunni Muslim.

Sunni? Now that wouldn't be the Salafist flavour espoused by Al-Shebaab would it?

He'll probably be released from jail in a couple of months, then appeal against deportation on humanitarian grounds because he's had an "anchor baby".
