NPR's Anti-Pamela Geller hatefest

This one has to be heard to be believed. NPR hosted a "debate" between Pamela Geller and jihad apologist Jess Ghannam (among others, as it turned out) about AFDI's jihad truth ads. But it was really no debate at all. It was a lengthened version of Orwell's "Two Minutes Hate," directed at Pamela Geller -- although the few times she was allowed to get a word in, she slashed through their propaganda and lies and made numerous points about the bloody reality of jihad that the jihad apologists wouldn't and couldn't answer. Here is a prime example of how the mainstream media acts today as a propaganda arm for Islamic supremacists, doing all it can to demonize freedom fighters, with open contempt for fairness, truth or accuracy.

Here is Pamela Geller's report:

Here is the audio to today's "debate" on NPR, also known as the Attack Geller Fest. This best illustrates the profound media bias -- they are aligned with the jihad force. This bias is open, naked, and absolute: NPR let several people make repeated and vicious ad hominem attacks against me. It was the theme of the show. No one spoke up in my defense, or addressed the ads or the crux of my argument, and I was not given time to answer everything. Hamas-CAIR rep Zahra Billoo refused to appear with me, but NPR made sure they had plenty of people ready to repeat the Islamic supremacists' propaganda.

An Atlas reader remarked correctly, "They invited you on to attack you, rather than hear what you had to say. ANYTHING GOES in San Francisco as long as it is NOT the truth."

Listen to it all. The whole thing. I want you to see how the mainstream media operates.

Anti-Jihad Ads Return to SF Muni Buses Wed, Mar 13, 2013, KQED- NPR
Download audio (MP3)

Justin Sullivan/Getty Images

For the second time in a year, San Francisco Muni buses are featuring ads critical of Islam. The latest ones feature pictures of and quotes from Osama bin Laden and the Times Square car bomber. Local officials and Muslim groups have denounced the ads -- but the city has refused to pull them on free speech grounds. We talk to critics of the ads, and the woman behind the campaign.

Host: Michael Krasny

Guests:

  • Pamela Geller, executive director of the American Freedom Defense Initiative, the group which purchased the ads to run on 10 Muni buses
  • David Chiu, president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors
  • Jess Ghannam, professor of clinical psychiatry and global health at UCSF, board member of the National Association of Arab Americans, former director of the Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee of San Francisco and former president of the Arab Cultural and Community Center

UPDATE: Atlas reader Larry sends in this information about Jess Ghannam:

Ghannam, even back in his undergraduate days at UC Berkeley, fancied himself a Palestinian revolutionary. Born in the U.S. to a Christian Arab family from the West Bank that left for the United States, he has always railed against Israel, despite anti-Christian persecution by the Muslim majority in the Arab world. Today he is a professor of psychiatry at UC-San Francisco’s medical school. He is also an inveterate liar when it comes to political issues about Israel and the United States, frequently recounting Israeli atrocities that have never occurred. Today, Ghannam is the President of the San Francisco Chapter of the Arab-American Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC). The ADC is active in the training and organizing of activists in the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) who go to the West Bank and purposely interfere with anti-terrorist operations of the Israeli army. I attended once undercover an orientation for the ISM given by Ghannam where he blatantly lied trying to claim Israel was an apartheid state like South Africa. Ghannam also frequently flies to the Middle East to work with hospitals in Gaza, although most Gazan hospitals are under the auspices of the terrorist group Hamas. Ghannam also recently organized an intifada celebratory event at a middle school in San Francisco where a spokesman for the Abu Sayyef was the honored guest. Abu Sayyef is a terrorist group allied with al-Qaeda.

Larry adds:

Jess Ghannam is a member of the international executive committee of Al-Awda. Here is what the ADL says about Al-Awda.

Al-Awda is on AFDI's Threats to Freedom Index.

I stopped listening to National Putz Radio years ago.
By the way - the sign-in timeout is too short.

Bigotry?

I did not listen the debate because of my blood pressure problems. Pam Geller is my hero and all she does is report what is really going on. Any objective person can easilly verify she is telling the tuth and only the truth. America please wake up.

Hate, hate monger, racist are all diversions to avoid reality...I expect taqiyya from Mahoundians but from kuffar officials it is intolerable...The SF supervisor is a coward and a bore...What he does not know about Islam could fill books...All these dregs of society are good for is casting aspersions and smears...Those people are just plain disgusting...

Pamela more than held her own in the little back and forth that Mr. Krasny of NPR permitted. Jess Ghannam displayed his great ignorance when he said that CAIR condems terrorism. What does he think co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation Trial means? It is hard to be against something and supporting it at the same time. Go Pamela!

Whenever Mahounedians or their slavish dhimmi's start talking about hate and hate mongers and racists, you know they are terrified of 'substance', and avoid it like the plague...
Slippery taqiyya and nasty smears are much better...That way they can invent their own reality, while ignoring the real one...However reasonable people might question the super over use of those derogatory terms and may start taking the view that there is something wrong with those people who continually use those labels...

Jess Ghannam is a Hamas supporter.

What a gutless fool, the perfect dhimmi, no wonder Muslims have such contempt for Christians, regardless or the Qur'anic influence.

A few years prior to 9/11, during my student days, I was invited to attend a meeting between two Iraqi groups on my University compass hall. That was my first and last Irqi V Other Iraqi debate. The organizer Iraqis were as professional about debating as a bull in China. Basically, they shouted down anyone who raised even a slightest critical comments about the political group who organized the meeting. I came out nodding my head off thinking this will NEVER ever happen in the good ole' US of A.

I am appalled that this bull-doze behaviour has become main-stream amongst the regular Americans in the academia in several outstanding compasses. What happened to Pamela, should be totally unacceptable by every good freedom loving American.

Pamela has been very lady like so far, criticising only violent jihad in her bus ad campaigns. Perhaps it's time for the gloves to come off and create an ad featuring the *stealth jihad* quote from that captured internal CAIR document: the one that talks about infiltrating and 'destroying their miserable house from within" CAIR that's their jihad, what's yours?
I mean if she is going to take so much abuse over this she might as well name names of the real enemy to most Americans. It's not bin laden. It's not nodal hassan. It's CAIR.

I think these nonsensical and dishonest accusations that Pamela and other Islam critics are tarring "all Muslims" has really been stretched beyond the point of credulity, even to the few members of the general public who've actually paid attention to this. If Pamela is guilty of tarring all Muslims by quoting some of them, then the news media organizations that merely report the violent jihad statements of Bin Laden, Hassan, et al., are also likewise guilty. Indeed, the same sorts of Islamic spokespeople who accuse Pamela of tarring all Muslims also regularly complain about mainstream media coverage of atrocious violent actions and statements by Muslim supremacists. But of course Pamela is not "guilty" of any such thing. The ads themselves have the added statement "That's my jihad. What's yours?" That's implying that there are Muslims who have a different answer than the extremist Muslim quoted in the ad.

I've studied Islam part-time for the past 8 years. Here's some of what I've learned about the concept of Jihad as it is understood and prescribed in Islam:

Jihad (or "struggle"), as a special Islamic term, refers only to struggle that is either directly or indirectly, immediately or ultimately, internally or externally, directed against disbelief and disbelievers. Disbelief is anything that is contrary to the Quran and the portions of the Hadith that are considered genuine by Muslim authorities. According to the Quran, disbelief, and uttering words of disbelief, is the worst crime anyone can commit. Not rape, not murder, not torture; the Quran says repeatedly that disbelieving Islam is the worst thing you can do. In practice, disbelief is also anything that is contrary to Islamic laws and customs. A disbeliever is anyone who does not accept and obey the Quran and Muhammad. Some forms of jihad are violent and some are not violent, but all of them are directed toward Islam's goal of vanquishing and suppressing disbelief and disbelievers, and all of them are directed toward obeying and pleasing Allah so that the believer will be allowed to enter paradise and escape the permanent tortures of hell-fire.

Apart from the struggle against disbelief and disbelievers, as outlined above, the term "jihad" in general usage has no Islamic significance per se. So when some Muslim groups engaging in public relations, for example, quote Muslims claiming that their jihad is about exercise and staying fit and so forth, this presentation is either
(a) incorrect and misleading if the Muslim is using the word jihad as a general term like struggle without the Islamic meaning, or
(b) misleading but in one sense correct if the Muslim intends to use the physical fitness as a means to oppose disbelief and disbelievers pursuant to Islam's goals.

Note that (b), though correct theologically, is still misleading because the Muslim isn't stating what the exercise is for, i.e., preparation for combat with non-Muslims, or trying to look good for a potential spouse who will produce Muslim offspring thereby advancing Islam, or perhaps part of some kind of ongoing internal struggle against disbelief, or perhaps just staying healthy to further one's effectiveness in the various day-to-day struggles against non-Muslims and non-Muslim beliefs, values, etc.

Note that (a) is misleading because the word jihad is not being used in the Islamic sense but is being used in the general sense. The ads, after all, are supposed to be about Muslim beliefs, not about the general concept of struggle or effort. It is no more Islamically meaningful for me, an atheist, to say that exercise is my struggle ("jihad" if I were speaking in Arabic), than it is for a Muslim to say this--unless the Muslim is doing the exercise for an Islamic purpose (see above). If it's not for an Islamic purpose, then it's not jihad in the Islamic sense. If it's not jihad in the Islamic sense, it's misleading to portray it as such in an ad campaign.

Excellent analysis KoK... Fantastic attention to detail, and drawing attention to the GOAL of all jihad, advancement of islam (RTC), ends the debate with anyone with eyes to see and ears to hear... as long the the brain is in gear and functioning....

Trying to make donation, might just go to atlas shrugs and do it there... Yet another website to log into?? Sigh.
