(CNN) — At least six people were killed and 10 others were wounded when a roadside bomb exploded near a soccer field in Baghdad’s outskirts on Sunday, police officials said.
Police said the bomb exploded while spectators were watching a soccer match in the al-Nahrawan area in the southeastern outskirts of the city, said the officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.
Separately, a roadside bomb exploded near an outdoor market in central Baghdad, killing three people and wounding seven others, the officials said.
May was the deadliest month in Iraq since the peak of the sectarian violence in 2006 and 2007.
A total of 1,045 Iraqis were killed in May, including 963 civilians, according to the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq said earlier this month.
