New moderate Iran threatens retaliation to proposed sanctions

Clearly the new Iran is just as “moderate” as Barack Obama and John Kerry claim. Don’t “moderates” always threaten retaliation when things don’t go their way?

“Iran threatens retaliation to proposed sanctions,” by Ramin Mostaghim and Paul Richter for McClatchy-Tribune News Service, December 20 (thanks to Kenneth):

TEHRAN, Iran “” Iranian lawmakers on Friday, Dec. 20, threatened retaliation for a new Senate bill that proposes tough new sanctions on Iran if the Islamic Republic fails to cooperate in upcoming negotiations aimed at curbing its nuclear program.

Mehdi Moussavinejad, a senior member of the Iranian parliament’s energy committee, said lawmakers were considering a measure that would hike Iran’s uranium enrichment for the current top concentration of 20 percent to more than 60 percent, substantially closer to the 90 percent needed for nuclear weapons fuel.

“Given the method that the other negotiating side “” the U.S. in particular “” has adopted during the nuclear negotiations, the legislators are working on a bill that will require the government to increase the level of uranium to over 60 percent,” Moussavinejad told the official Iranian Republic News Agency.

He said the high-grade material was needed “to supply fuel for our ships.”

The lawmaker was reacting to news that 26 senators, including 13 Democrats, had signed on Thursday as co-sponsors of a new sanctions bill, despite furious lobbying from the White House. The Democrats included Sen. Charles E. Schumer, D-N.Y., the No. 3 Senate Democrat, and Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., who is chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Obama administration officials have maintained that new sanctions could drive Iran from the negotiating table and strengthen its hard-liners who don’t want a deal with the West….

For years the establishment foreign policy experts have taken this line: we have to come to the aid of this or that unsavory individual or group, or we have to make these concessions that are not reciprocated by the other side, or else we will drive our friends into the arms of the extremists or let the radicals win out. What has it gotten us? Disaster in Afghanistan, disaster in Iraq, disaster in Libya (Benghazi), disaster in Syria (where the “moderates” who were so highly touted by John Kerry and John McCain just a few months ago have now been almost entirely routed), disaster elsewhere. It is time for a sea-change and the utter rejection of the foreign policy establishment. But that is not on the horizon.

Iran was NEVER AT THE NEGOTIATING TABLE, that’s why they mocked and bragged about being way ahead of what America and the west THOUGHT they had prior to the negotiations. It is also why they anounced with glee that they had ‘Brought the West to it’s Knees’. I am so glad that Obama has had his ‘goolies’ thoroughly kicked on this issue by backbenchers.

Obama, Kerry, McCain, and their PC MC attitude are endangering this country each day.

    Unless Iran decides otherwise……

On this point there is broad agreement that heavy economic sanctions have driven the Iranians to the bargaining table and fueled deep domestic pressure on its leadership to improve its international standing. So with all of the leverage on the side of the US and West, we extract an agreement that delivers nothing. No dismantling in centrifuges, no destruction of enriched uranium fuel, no condemnation of nuclear weapons, no liberalization of human rights abuses, no release of political prisoners as a gesture of goodwill, no lifting of media and internet blackouts, no halt in foreign interventions. Nothing.

The watchfulness which this site promotes is a real service to civilization’s hope for spiritual and moral advancement. Scriptures from various religious/philosophical traditions threaten a “new dark age” if humanity cannot awaken in time. This is simply my note of appreciation to Robert and staff for helping us realize the cherished values which are presently threatened by those who promote the violent return to a benighted, medieval mentality.

Thank you for your great work on behalf of those who wish to see humanity progress into its full potential.

“…those who promote the violent return to a benighted, medieval mentality.” My, how mild you are. In truth, Islamists threaten to drive us back to the savage days of ANTIQUITY — way beyond “benighted, medieval” days, didn’t you know?
