Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) named to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Funny how they never mention “Yusuf Islam” in this article. I do hope that at the ceremony Yusuf will play the nasheed above. A nasheed is a song praising Allah or Islam in some way. Nasheeds are usually sung a cappella or with percussion accompaniment only, and according to most Islamic authorities they’re the only kind of music allowed under Islamic law. At minute 2:02, Yusuf Islam, the former Cat Stevens, sings:

What are you saying?
What are you saying?
I’m praying to Allah
To give us victory
Over the kuffar.

“I’m praying to Allah to give us victory over the kuffar” (unbelievers)? When have you ever heard a Jew or a Christian praying for victory over the unbelievers? The supremacism and hatred is open and unapologetic, and especially piquant coming the former Mr. Peace Train himself, who has for years cultivated an image as a benign, peaceful, cuddly, peace-and-love-hippie Muslim.

He wasn’t always so image-conscious, however. Although he denies it now, in 1989 he enthusiastically endorsed the Ayatollah Khomeini’s death fatwa against Salman Rushdie for insulting Islam: “Cat Stevens Gives Support To Call for Death of Rushdie,” by Craig R. Whitney in the New York Times, May 23, 1989:

TONDON [sic], May 22 — The musician known as Cat Stevens said in a British television program to be broadcast next week that rather than go to a demonstration to burn an effigy of the author Salman Rushdie, ”I would have hoped that it’d be the real thing.”

The singer, who adopted the name Yusuf Islam when he converted to Islam, made the remark during a panel discussion of British reactions to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s call for Mr. Rushdie to be killed for allegedly blaspheming Islam in his best-selling novel ”The Satanic Verses.” He also said that if Mr. Rushdie turned up at his doorstep looking for help, ”I might ring somebody who might do more damage to him than he would like.”

”I’d try to phone the Ayatollah Khomeini and tell him exactly where this man is,” said Mr. Islam, who watched a preview of the program today and said in an interview that he stood by his comments….

Here is the video:

And much more recently, he is praying for victory over the kuffar, while being embraced by the rock glitterati and lauded everywhere — and now he is going into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Baby, baby, it’s a wild world indeed.

“Nirvana, Kiss will join Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” by Patrick Ryan for USA Today, December 17 (thanks to Bill):

Calling Dr. Love! Kiss is set to join the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, alongside other new inductees Nirvana, Hall & Oates, Peter Gabriel, Linda Ronstadt and Cat Stevens.

The 29th annual induction ceremony will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on April 10, and will be open to the public (as it has for recent ceremonies in Los Angeles and Cleveland). The event will air as an HBO special in May….

For a second year, the Rock Hall implemented fan voting in choosing this year’s inductees, which was available on its official site, Rolling Stone and USA TODAY, and generated nearly 1.4 million votes this year. The five artists with the highest number of votes (three of whom will be inducted) made up a fans’ ballot, which counted as a single vote in choosing this year’s honorees.

Among fans, Kiss (239,000 votes) and Nirvana (218,000) enjoyed easy victories. Two artists that failed to receive induction despite swells of public support were Yes (151,000) and Deep Purple (166,000), beaten out in the overall balloting by Hall & Oates (113,000), Peter Gabriel (111,000), Linda Ronstadt (85,000) and Cat Stevens (75,000)….

Cat Stevens. One of the biggest-selling artists of the early ’70s, the mellow British songsmith crafted introspective, tranquil tunes such as Peace Train, Wild World and The First Cut Is the Deepest.

Is part of this man’s brain missing? Well I guess for anyone to willingly join Islam being at least partly brain-damaged is a requirement.

I hope he realizes that his desire to have ‘victory over the kuffar’ meaning the rest of us who don’t bow to their moon-god, is only going to lead to the annihilation of muslims like himself because we’re not about to lie down and die as they might hope.

They are dreaming of war but they don’t realize it is they who will lose because we are much more powerful.

  2. says

I assume he will reject this. But should he show up for the ceremony, expect a river of taqiyya about the “peace and tolerance of Islam” (referring to both the ideology and himself).

  3. says

I didn’t like this idiot’s so called music then and I sure as hell don’t like it now. This puke doesn’t deserve this award. Definition of stupid…..cat stevens!

    Cat Stevens, wanker

    But Gene

KISS bass player Gene Simmons has caused an uproar among Australia’s Muslim community by launching an attack on Islamic culture while in Melbourne.
The lizard-tongued rock god who is touring Australia with the world’s most enduring glam rock band launched an attack on Muslim extremists during an interview on Melbourne’s 3AW radio – including comments which were labelled inaccurate.

“Extremism believes that it’s okay to strap bombs on to your children and send them to paradise and whatever else and to behead people,” he said yesterday.

The Israeli-born US musician went on to say Islam was a “vile culture” that treated women worse than dogs.

Muslim women had to walk behind their men and were not allowed to be educated or own houses, he said.

“Your dog, however, can walk side by side, your dog is allowed to have its own dog house… you can send your dog to school to learn tricks, sit, beg, do all that stuff – none of the women have that advantage.”

The only thing less impressive about this gullible and stupid, Islamic convert, Cat Stevens, is the thoroughly misguided fans that elevated him to such the undeserving distinction as Rock n’ Roll Hall of Famer. Perhaps Mr. Steven’s time would have been much better spent selling cheap, hajji trinkets outside the kaaba in Mecca.

Don’t count out this one-time peacenik turning into a violent jihadist before he dies. I assume he gives lots of his cash to JIHADISTS as a ‘good’ Muslim should.

This insipid nursery rhyme of a song somehow manages to be both banal, trite and yet menacing. But really is that all he’s got?
How sad, how sad for the whole lot of ’em.
Last night I heard a choir sing 12 carols in one of our Cathedrals. And as the notes swirled and floated and filled the 900 year old building I was overcome by Joy and Hope. And left with a peaceful heart. What a contrast, what a gift Christianity has given and how tragic that Allah forbids such a thing to those who follow him.

From what I understand (and I could be wrong) Cat Stevens has gone back to playing his guitar and performing for an audience, including some of his original material which he hadn’t performed in years. It is quite possible that he has given up extremism but it is also likely that he has blinders on and does not WANT to see what Islam is really about. It is also possible that he wants to or actually has left Islam but as a high profile potential apostate his life would be over rather quickly. This song was actually written for children which is pretty chilling. While Cat Stevens songs from the pre-Islamic era are pleasant enough for those who like a more mellow genre of music I’m not really sure that it is “Hall of Fame” material.

He got a lot of money put towards Great Ormand St Hospital for children, through his songs Ain’t a bad guy, but he’s screwing up with his dalliance with Mohammedanism, I’d warrant.

  10. says

Here’s how he is a bad guy, no matter how many hospital fundraisers he does. He is not an innocent.

Besides endorsing the fatwa on Salman Rushdie,
(which he lies about doing now) it is well known Yusuf Islam recruited for Hamas in England (which he lies about doing now). That’s like working for Murder Inc.

He even authored a brochure for the Islamic Association for Palestine (the Hamas front group)where he wrote: “The Jews seem neither to respect God nor his creation. Their own holy books contain the curse of God brought upon them by their prophets on account of their disobedience to Him and mischief in the earth. We have seen the disrespect for religion displayed by those who consider themselves to be ‘God’s chosen people.’ … There will be no justice until all the land is given back to its rightful owners … Only Islam can bring peace back to the Holy Land.”

Muslim Aid, his charity in London, sent funds to mujaheddin in Bosnia and was listed by Spanish police as a charity linked to Al Qaeda terror activities. He has long and typically murky connections to numerous groups and individuals working for the Caliphate, none of which he has repudiated.

“I’m praying to Allah to give us victory over the kuffar.”

Can he any more clearly declare himself your/our enemy?

Cat Stevens died a long time ago, rock fans.

  11. says

“It is quite possible that he has given up extremism…”

Not good enough. It’s not our obligation to have to guess about a Muslim who formerly called for the death of a writer simply for expressing ideas. He needs to explicitly renounce and recant, and explain why he is still a Muslim and how his Islam is true, and not the Islam that mandates death for blasphemy.

“…but it is also likely that he has blinders on and does not WANT to see what Islam is really about.”

Are you kidding me? He knows Islam quite well; even back in the 80s, he had learned it well enough. And looking at him in the video Spencer provided one sees he does not have “blinders” on. He knows full well what Islam means — and what it means is our death, subjugation or conversion.
