This one appears to have been Sunni jihadists targeting the Shi’ites of Hizballah. Note once again that the mainstream media writes its headlines as if these things just happen, with no agent: the explosion up and hit Hizballah neighborhood, with no explanation of who was doing the exploding.
“Explosion hits Hezbollah neighborhood in Beirut,” from the Times of Israel, January 21:
A large blast rocked Beirut Tuesday morning, hitting a Hezbollah stronghold in the capital’s southern neighborhoods.
The explosion struck near a library in the city’s Jerusalem street, according to Hezbollah’s al-Manar news website.
Four people were killed, according to al-Manar.
Thousands of people flocked to the Beirut neighborhood of Haret Hreik after the explosion shook the area, according to footage broadcast by the al-Manar.
The station put the death toll at four, though Lebanese Health Minister Ali Hassan Khalil said a man and woman were killed, and 26 people were hospitalized with wounds from the bombing.
Lebanon’s official media said a suicide bomber in a vehicle was behind the attack.
Footage from the scene showed flames furiously engulfing one building, as medics hauled a man on a stretcher out of the area.
The explosion was less than 100 meters from a bomb that hit the capital earlier in the month, killing four and wounding dozens.
That blast was said to have targeted Hezbollah’s political headquarters.
The Shi’ite terror group has been attacked in Beirut several times, seen as spillover from fighting in neighboring Syria, where Hezbollah is fighting alongside President Bashar Assad.
The blast came as a high-profile conference meant to bring an end to Syrian fighting kicked off in Switzerland.
