The president also said, “Iran and Indonesia have paid a high cost in fighting against terrorism and extremism.”
“Iran and Indonesia as two Islamic and Asian countries that are members to international bodies such as the Non-Aligned Movement and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation can play an effective role in advancing regional and international issues with reliance on their commonalities,” Rouhani stated.
He also called for comprehensive ties between the two countries, saying Iran welcomes expansion of economic ties with Indonesia.
For his part, Alwi Shahab said Indonesia is ready to expand relations with Iran.
Shahab also highlighted the importance of presenting a “moderate” Islam which is far from extremism.
