How dare the Islamic State collect the jizya from Christians! Don’t they know there’s a Muslim-Christian dialogue going on? When is the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops going to send one of the bishops over to Raqqa to explain to the Islamic State leaders how they’re misunderstanding their religion, and that it is peaceful at its core?
“PHOTOS: ISIS Preaches Quran to Christians in Raqqa After Collecting Non-Muslim Tax,” by Sam Prince, Heavy, February 9, 2016:
In a new photo report purportedly released by the Islamic State, an Islamist preacher is seen preaching the Quran to Christians in Syria after collecting jizya taxes from them for not being Muslims. According to Wikipedia, the jizya tax: “is a religiously required per capita yearly tax historically levied by Islamic states on certain non-Muslim subjects (dhimmis) permanently residing in Muslim lands under Islamic law.” It is described in the Quranic verse 9:29, which reads: “Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day and who do not consider unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the Scripture – [fight] until they give the jizyah willingly while they are humbled.” The jizya tax has not been imposed on non-Muslims in Muslim countries since the fall of the Ottoman Empire in 1918, but ISIS has revived it.
Even though that is from Wikipedia, it is accurate.
