Here again, Obama is repeating talking points from Hamas-linked CAIR and its allies. It is an extremely common complaint among Islamic supremacists in the U.S. that the entire Muslim community is being blamed for the actions of a few, that counter-terror efforts demonize innocent Muslims, and the like. Trump’s proposal for a temporary moratorium on Muslim immigration was deemed a prime example of blaming all Muslims for the actions of a few. In reality, however, it was merely a recognition of the fact that it is impossible to distinguish jihadis from peaceful refugees. That is not blaming all Muslims, for Trump didn’t say all Muslims were terrorists or that all Muslims were a risk to the United States; it was simply a recognition of the unfortunate fact that jihadis live and move among peaceful Muslims.
This same accusation is often leveled at those who note how jihadis use the texts and teachings of Islam to justify their actions and make recruits among peaceful Muslims. To note that obvious fact is somehow to blame all Muslims for terrorism or say all Muslims are terrorists, although the Leftists and Islamic supremacists who make such accusations never criticize the terrorists with the same venom they reserve for those who quote the terrorists. In reality, the fact that the Qur’an and Sunnah teach that Muslims should wage war against and subjugate unbelievers doesn’t mean that every Muslim is pursuing this, any more than every Christian is loving his enemies and turning the other cheek. Those Muslims who oppose the way jihadis interpret the Qur’an should challenging those interpretations within the Muslim community, but instead they’re mostly castigating the non-Muslims who notice the jihadi use of the Qur’an as “Islamophobes.”
To accuse those who note the violent teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah of blaming all Muslims for terrorism has the effect of inhibiting exploration of those violent teachings, and preventing non-Muslims from knowing about them. The result would be a populace too complacent and ignorant to do anything to counter jihad violence and Sharia oppression. That, apparently, is what Obama wants.
From Obama’s speech Wednesday at the Islamic Society of Baltimore:
I know that in Muslim communities across our country, this is a time of concern and, frankly, a time of some fear. Like all Americans, you’re worried about the threat of terrorism. But on top of that, as Muslim Americans, you also have another concern — and that is your entire community so often is targeted or blamed for the violent acts of the very few.
