The Islamic State is not backing off from its claim of responsibility for the Las Vegas massacre. They don’t seem to be afraid that Stephen Paddock will turn out to be a white supremacist neo-Nazi or some such. They don’t seem to be worried about being exposed as grandiose liars. They’re doubling down.

PATRICIA FRANCES KOENIG says
I have never seen Muslims claim a conversion to Islam that was not true. Though Muslims do lie… that does not seem to be something they lie about.
dumbledoresarmy says
Actually, they *do*, sometimes.
There is a terrible story from Morocco, 19th century, about a Jewish girl called Sol Hachuel. She had a Muslim female friend. One fine day that ‘friend’ announced loudly that Sol had ‘converted to ISlam’. Sol indignantly denied this. And was promptly arrested .. and after playing cat-and-mouse with her, very cruellly, for a long time, the Muslims of Morocco had her executed. Beheaded, in the street. As ‘punishment’ for.. apostasy.
You see, Sol’s insistence that she was a Jewess – her claiming to have *never* converted to Islam – made her an apostate from Islam, because the word of a Muslim – in this case, Sol’s Muslimah false ‘friend’ – ALWAYS trumps that of an infidel. If the Muslimah said Sol converted to Islam then that made Sol a Muslim and therefore if, subsequent to that, Sol insisted she was a *Jewess*, that meant she must have renounced her conversion to wonderful wonderful Islam, thus identifying her as an apostate from Islam who deserved to be KILLED… is your head hurting, yet??
Joeyn says
Another case which comes to mind is the one where Muslims claimed that Neil Armstrong had converted to Islam but i don’t think he did.
Jack Diamond says
She was 17 years old and quite beautiful. The Muslim “friend” thought she could convert the infidel girl to Islam (a prized accomplishment) and when she got nowhere, denounced her by lying. Classic behavior toward the dhimmi. The “Basha” (governor) promised the girl wealth and happiness and…safety, if she would only convert to Islam. Her reply was “A Jewess I was born, a Jewess I wish to die.” So, he sent her off to the Sultan in Fez, who had her beheaded. Her parents were required to pay the fee for her execution.
Lying to achieve a greater goal for Islam (doing a small harm to prevent a greater harm, where even killing is less harmful than allowing “fitna”) as well as lying to protect Muslims and Islam, to deceive the kaffir, to achieve war aims, this is all de rigueur. In the 19th century and today.
Thus, jihad against Christians or personal gain over them, are furthered by making up a story about a burning of the Qur’an in Pakistan. And no Muslim bats an eyelash over it.
But what ISIS would gain (other than sowing confusion) by making a claim that, if false, should be easy to disprove, is puzzling.
con traynor says
I’m not given to conspiracy theories and jumping to conclusion. I’m rather conservative in that regard. However, I’ve long wondered about the allegiance of Muslims in the U.S. military.
I’ve heard how Muslim chaplains have agitated their followers to follow Islamic tenets very closely, so I have my suspicions.
Robby says
Patrica, I agree. Although it looks uncertain at the moment, I’ve never known them to take responsibility for killings they’re not responsible for.
Paul Middleton says
All the lying was done PRIOR to conversion. The main reason non-Muslims make the dreadful mistake of converting to Islam is they’re only told about the first stage of Islam, loving what Allah loves. Converts aren’t told that later they will have to hate what Allah hates. Allah hates ‘the Kuffar’ and their civilisation, such as free speech, equal rights and human rights. So thanks to Muslims lying by omission, the convert has been exposed to the ‘good stuff’ but doesn’t yet know the full doctrine of dualistic Islam, the other side of which is darkness such as jihad, the abuse of women, and taqiyya.

An ordinary citizen is not supposed to legally get and own a weapon like that. Per US law and conforming Nevada law. Maybe he had help? Hope someone carefuly investigates his computer and all communications devices for evidence of contacts for money, arms, and for jihad communication.

any law-abiding u.s. citizen can get a federal armaments license, and can then legally buy and sell automatic weapons. many years ago, such a license cost $500.00, and at the time, had little in the way of background checks attached. it wouldn’t take too much for those in the federal government who have been blinded by the religion of peace to issue such a license to a law-abiding citizen (again, probably without checking his religion or religious contacts, because that wouldn’t be PC – unless he claimed to be christian, of course), and the next thing U know, hundreds are dead and wounded.

Joe, I will not write the details out of a desire to respect the forum and to prevent cluing some other copycat. But be aware that there are quite lawful alternatives to make a semiautomatic (one shot for each pull of the trigger) function so close to being fully automatic, that on a range, you could not tell the difference without looking very closely.
Automobiles and trucks kill on the daily average about 2 to 3 times as many people as firearms. Like firearms vehicles do have beneficial utility in addition to their harmful possibilities (At my age and physical condition I would hate to be in a self defense or defense of third persons situation without a firearm: One friend in a discussion volunteered to resist an armed attacker with a rolled up newspaper). Vehicles and their operators are registered and licensed. Theoretically there is traffic enforcement, here usually after a wreck where someone is injured or killed. I don’t hear calls to take away vehicles, yet. Guns and vehicles don’t kill; the people misusing them do the injuries.

ISIS issues official communique on Las Vegas, identifying Paddock as “Abu Abd Abdulbar al-Ameriki”
…………………………….
I had wondered–if Stephen Paddock had indeed converted to Islam, which is still not certain–what his Muslim name was.
This is pretty generic, though–it translates roughly to “the father of the American slaves of Islam”.
Ekondig says
Hi Gravenimage,
When a Westerner converts to Islam they’re encouraged to take an Islamic name. In this case, we don’t yet know if it’s an invention by Islamic State or something Paddock actually did.
“Abu Abd Abdulbar al-Ameriki” actually means “father of slave-of-the-Just the American” (‘Just’ rather amazingly being one of the 99 names of Allah).
Explanation: A Muslim might be named ‘Abdulqader’, but when he has a son, named for example ‘Ali’, he is now referred to as ‘Abu Ali’, the father of his (eldest) son. This is a quite a common tradition, though not universally practised.
In this case, it would be highly unlikely that Paddock’s son, if he had one, converted to Islam as well, so maybe adding ‘Abu’ was just to indicate he was an older man.
gravenimage says
Thank you, Ekondig–I know all this.
My observance was just that this was not a name in the usual sense, and is pretty generic.
But many “Soldiers of Allah” have indeed taken similar nons de guerre–I wasn’t saying that this is not plausible–it is.

One fact doesn’t seem to fit the Islamic State’s claim: Police reported that Paddock shot himself.

Not saying that this rules out “jihadist,” but it’s not typical behavior.

What entices a 64 year old man who is secure financially to murder, mass murder people?
I would sure like to know the reason.
I don’t think I can read the papers anymore. I am old and tired and I just do not want to hear of any more mass murders whether by Islamists or not.
gravenimage says
Madeleine, I understand your feelings–but this savagery is going to continue whether you acknowledge it or not. All too many people are ignoring it as it is.
Madeleine says
I am not ignoring it. How can I? But I would really like someone, anyone to explain the thoughts and the motive of the Las Vegas mass murderer.
I know Jihad. I have seen it first hand. First hand. My bet is, and just my opinion that perhaps the girlfriend had something to do with this? Or, he was just a wealthy senior citizen who rather than doing good works with his fortune chose to murder in his dotage,
My God, what sort of person not affiliated with Jihad, who has the means to live well, does such a thing?
JawsV says
Who does such a thing, Madeleine? They’re called psychopaths. They’re born that way. Paddock’s father was a bank robber the prison doctors diagnosed as “psychopathic.” They have no conscience. They have no empathy or compassion for others. Also called sociopaths. Not all kill. They hurt people in other ways — emotionally, financially. Money has nothing to do with it. They can be rich or poor. 1 in 25 people is a sociopath. It’s inherited, they can’t help it. So, about the abomination that occurred in Las Vegas the answer is he inherited the psycho gene from his father and was a ticking time bomb.
You might be interested in this book: “The Sociopath Next Door” (2006).
Madeleine says
Well, that gives me some comfort, I guess. But a ticking time bomb at 64 years? Maybe.
Thanks for your reply. I am well read and learned and I do know of Sociopaths but this character, the shooter, from what I have read, the little the media is telling us of his life, does not seem to fit the pattern, at least not entirely. I do thank you for the book suggestion. I had heard of it but had never read it, I agree with you that it would be best if I read it now.
JawsV says
Hi Madeleine,
64 isn’t so old for the time bomb to have gone off. Also, there is no set “pattern.” Yes, they all lack empathy and compassion for other people. But, some have no feelings for animals while others love animals. The book is insightful (written by a PhD) but focused too much on animals. I did appreciate learning that sociopathy is inherited and that 1 of 25 people are sociopaths. Thus her title: “The Sociopath Next Door.”
Not positive yet but I don’t think LV was an Islam thing. I think it’s a socio/psychopath thing.
gravenimage says
Madeleine, this story is still unfolding. Hopefully we will learn more.
TL says
Good idea, Madeleine. Newspapers are a toxic source of information anyway, and old people have more important things to attend to than the mad ravings and petty schemes of worldings who chase matter, popularity, and power incessantly. The Brahmins, whatever their faults may have been, understood this long ago, so they promoted the idea of ashramas, which are not mere “age-based life stages” (Wikipedia) but modes of living.
The highest mode is Sannyasa, renunciation in the sense, more or less, that the Shakyamuni (Siddhatta Gotama) was referrring to at the very beginning of his teaching career. He warned the five other renunciants that those who go forth from worldy life should avoid two extremes. One extreme is indulgence in desireable sense objects, which is low, vulgar, worldly, ignoble, unprofitable, etc., and the other is self-mortification, which is painful, unworthy, and unprofitable. This mode of life is ascetic, and tuning out secular toxins like newspapers, most of the time, is what the mode calls for.
It so happens that living as an ascetic, esp. in a communal environment, is much less expensive than living a retirement in comfortable apartments until the very end while stuggling mightily against the inevitable through aggressive health care. Now, because powerful factions in the West insist upon a secular lifestyle until the very end, the entire civilization is awash in debt which the young are expected to amortize through their productivity. I wouldn’t be the first to suspect also that government pension and health care schemes are elaborate campaign finance rackets for politicians. Politicians who support them schemes obtain power; all others are shut out. Eventually, however, these houses of cards will fall. Chaos will ensue. And our way of living will still lag behind the ashrama system by thousands of years.
gravenimage says
Is TL now demanding that older people remain ignorant of what is going on in the world? It would not surprise me.
Never mind his claim that the standard of living in the free West lags behind the third world…

Here’s my theory on the Las Vegas murders: Paddock was a gambler, he was approached by ISIS and lured to the room at the hotel where police found him dead. He was murdered to look as though he committed suicide, and ISIS operatives did all the shooting, then left. There is certainly video on each floor of the hotel as well as the entrances and exits. This is why I think ISIS is claiming credit.
Jack Diamond says
I don’t think ISIS operates like they just watched The Parallax View. Besides, Paddock not only had cameras of his own in the hallway, he apparently had a camera on him in the room, so he could film the shooting. I assume the suicide is also on video. Or if someone besides Paddock is doing the shooting.
ISIS may well have planned it or inspired it, but there is this thing called proof.
gravenimage says
True, Jack.
And if there had been hordes of Jihad shooters in the room, they would have been picked up on hotel camera.
Sam says
Yep, but the authorities have yet to release any footage or meaningful information about what happened at the hotel. So pretty much every theory at this stage is still a possibility.
Frank Anderson says
GI, please consider the possibility that the hotel cameras could be avoided. If substantial amounts of time were spent studying the hotel in detail any way to stay out of the fields of view could be found. A good illustration to me is the Jason Statham movie Mechanic. Paddock’s time of death would be extremely informative. IF there were a “crew” and they killed him before the shooting starts (he was dead before the shooting) the “crew” would be exposed by the time line. If “the crew” was smart enough to avoid the cameras, they were certainly smart enough to kill him last. The possibility suggested is worth investigating, at least. Best wishes always.
gravenimage says
Thanks for your reply, Frank. It might be difficult to enter the room and avoid cameras, though. Hopefully we will learn more.
Frank Anderson says
GI, you are to me one of the best people I have ever exchanged with in conversation. Many things are possible, while few are certain. Imagination and planning enable people to do many things that are not obvious, nor easy, at first glance. I have mentioned several times in other comments a machine that I have been playing with for about 8 years. As I used it I learned more about it and noticed one place or step at a time where I could make it better. I really like it now; and it is far easier and much more reliable to use than it was 8 years ago.
I think the same analysis and observation could apply to the LV attack. A skilled observer, using inspiration from many sources, could almost certainly find some way to beat the cameras. I believe, according to the reports Paddock had approximately 4 days in the room. Who knows at the moment whether a scout could have been there earlier. Even if, as reported recently, Paddock was still in the room and alive when SWAT killed him, others could have been in the room and escaped. I read or heard 1 report that the shooting lasted between 9 and 11 minutes, but that the room was “invaded” after 72 minutes. That is a LONG time for someone to crawl out where cameras are not placed. I’m not silly enough to argue or claim that this happened; only that it could. Please take a look at the stunts and capers written into the movie I mentioned before. There is to me similarity enough to make me pause. My best wishes always.

SO… a sixty-four year old retired average white guy with no military background or training in weapons modification, a well to do accountant and licensed pilot with two airplanes, with no clear motive, no criminal record or history of violence, no indication of any ties to any extremist groups or crime families, no documented history of mental illness.. PLANS AND EXECUTES THE DEADLIEST MASS SHOOTING IN US HISTORY?!!
Nobody but NOBODY commits themselves to carrying out this level of carnage without leaving a big ole fat clue as to WHY. And so far, nothing, NOTHING, not a thin shred of damning evidence to show a history of violence, mental illness, financial duress, or ties to any known hate groups or political ideologies, and absolutely no evidence to support the theory that he just “snapped” (This was planned long-term. Room reservation, three day stay, constructing sniper platforms, acquiring weapons, ammo, modifications for weapons, bringing it all to the room, setting up his roost. That’s not an impulsive set of acts)
SO, Here’s my theory…Paddock was already dead at the time of the shooting, staged to look like a suicide, shot to death by the true shooter from Paddock’s room.
This “event” was well planned in advance by professionals and/or by someone(s) with military-grade training and pre-planning for a mass casualty “take-out mission”. Paddock was singled out months in advance as a convenient “fall guy”, someone that no one would ever believe could do such a thing. By passing off Paddock as “the guy”, anyone could be a “lone wolf assassin”. Consequently, all guns should become “registered” and all gun owners subject to psychological testing, in which about 99.9999% would be disqualified.
What better way to escalate a gun grab than to plan and execute the worst mass shooting in history and then manufacture the perfect villain to pin it on- a guy whose profile exactly matches that of millions upon millions of people in this country who would never raise enough suspicion to be placed on a watch list..
WHERE’S THE VIDEO FOOTAGE OF HIM ENTERING AND EXITING THE BUILDING, CARRYING DUFFEL BAGS FULL OF DEATH?!!!
HE WAS FOUND WITH 23 GUNS AND STILL HAD 6000 ROUNDS OF AMMO IN THE ROOM ACCORDING TO THE “OFFICIAL NARRATIVE”…
AFTER HE ALLEGEDLY SHOT HIMSELF?!!!
ONE MAN DOESN’T NEED THAT MANY FIREARMS TO WAGE WAR AGAINST UNARMED CONCERTGOERS. AND IF HIS INTENTION WAS TO KILL HIMSELF AFTERWARDS, HE HAD NO INTENT TO WAGE WAR ON THE POLICE!!!
Sam says
“They don’t seem to be afraid that Stephen Paddock will turn out to be a white supremacist neo-Nazi or some such”.
Why would a white supremacist have an Asian wife & attack a mostly white, conservative Christian country music festival? That’s comfortably more far-fetched than the ISIS claim, which actually has some merit in it.
E.g. ISIS had been promoting a lone wolf attack on the Las Vegas strip a few months back. The shooter had spent time in ISIS territories. His wife was likely a Muslim. His wife fled just before the shooting so she obviously knows something.
I’m not outright claiming it, I’m just saying that it’s a real possibility. Where as the possibility of him being a ‘white supremacist’ is close to zero. Cracks me up how the left just throws ‘racist’, ‘sexist’, ‘white supremacist’ at every view they don’t agree with. Absolutely pathetic.
Dee says
We know he’s just another Liberal terrorist, as are all mass shooters. You want gun control? The government needs to ban Democrats from buying guns!
