Terrorism is not ruled out, so jihad is also not ruled out, but this could be some lone nut. Toronto Councilor Paula Fletcher says “it’s not gang related,” but it’s unclear at this point how she knows that. In this story, authorities seem to be favoring the “emotionally disturbed” explanation, which has often been a way that authorities all over the West have tried to obscure what was clearly jihad activity, but this shooter may really have been emotionally disturbed.
“Toronto shooting rampage leaves 2 dead, 12 hurt; gunman dead after firing into restaurants,” by Edmund DeMarche and Travis Fedschun, Fox News, July 23, 2018:
Terrorism was not being ruled out as a motive after a gunman fired into packed Toronto restaurants and cafes Sunday, killing two people and injuring 12 others before dying in a gun battle with police, officials said.
Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit said in a news release two people were killed by a man who “fired shots at groups of people several times” while walking along Danforth Avenue.
Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders said cops were investigating “every possible motive, including terrorism.” Saunders said a young woman was among the dead, and a 9-year-old girl was critically injured in the shooting.
“I’m looking at every single possible motive for this,” the Canadian top cop told reporters. “When you have this many people struck by gunfire, it’s a grave concern.”
Saunders said it was not clear if the gunman was killed by police or if he killed himself. The SIU said the suspected gunman, a 29-year-old man, was located by police on Bowden Street and “an exchange of gunfire took place.” The man fled the area and was located, deceased, on Danforth Avenue, according to the SIU.
Authorities received a call shortly after 10 p.m. about the incident in Toronto’s Greektown neighborhood, a lively residential area with crowded Greek restaurants and cafes.
Witnesses reported hearing many shots and described the suspect walking past restaurants and cafes and patios on both sides of the street and firing into them.
John Tulloch told the Canadian Press he and his brother had just gotten out of their car when he heard about 20 to 30 gunshots.
“We just ran. We saw people starting to run, so we just ran,” he said.
A video from one witness shows a man dressed in black clothes and a black hat walking quickly and firing three shots from the sidewalk into at least one shop or restaurant. The condition of the other victims was not known yet, police spokesman Mark Pugash said.
Another witness to the rampage told CP24 he was standing 10 to 15 feet away from the alleged gunman.
“He looked around 35, long hair, black hat. He had a dark shirt with long sleeves rolled up and black pants,” the man told the television station. “He was skinny, but he had this horrible look in his face, like he was under the influence or something.”…
Toronto Councilor Paula Fletcher told CP24 she was told the gunman was emotionally disturbed.
“It’s not gang related. It looks like someone who is very disturbed,” Fletcher said.

I hope this isn’t like the bombing at the Bombay Bhel restaurant in Mississauga, in that you hear that it happened, but then you don’t hear a peep after that. For that matter, last year the courts scheduled a trial for May of this year for Rehab Dughmosh over swinging a knife and golf club around at people in a Canadian Tire store. May 2018 came and went and still no reports of what happened at the trial. They’re pretty stingy with details these days.
zulu says
I thought the same. Two people fled after detonating a bomb at an Indian restaurant in May and nothing has been reported since. Very strange.
Linda says
It’s the same thing with Rehab Dughmosh’s trial. It was set for something like May 28th this year and so far, all we hear about that are crickets chirping. No follow-up at all.

I do not know the motivation, but I am amazed at how quickly they rule out something like gang inspired violence. Unfortunately, the government and the media assign emotional or mental instability to obvious Jihad attacks so these early reports lack any credibility as a result.
Anyhow, whatever the cause, the government solution will be to call for more firearms restrictions on the law abiding.
elee says
I find this emotionally disturbing. Do I get to go kill a few people, or does that only work for Muslims?
Sylvia says
Only for Muslims. They are special. White Christian ‘Old Stock Canadians’, Europeans, Brits and Americans would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and serve time accordingly to the max if possible.. Plus a lifetime weapons ban undoubtedly.
So a proper example can be made of us by the leftards.
somehistory says
Ah, ’emotionally disturbed.’ How would they know this if he was deceased when found?
There has not been enough time to have investigated his background….after finding him dead on the street after the “bun battle” with police. If he had ID on him, they could begin to question his friends and relatives, but it takes time to do that.
He must look like a moslim for them to immediately say he was “disturbed.” Or he is known to the police and they already knew he was moslim.
Giacomo Latta says
His mom said so, through her burka.
JM says
Just another “mentally ill, disaffected youth” shouting Allahu Akbar as he guns down innocent men, women and children in the street.
We all know that the attack could NOT have been carried out by a Muslim because Islam is a religion of peace, and to hold Islam responsible for the many murders committed by Muslims around the world would be Islamophobic and racist.
WPM says
All people who follow Islam according to the way Mohammed preach it are emotional disturbed the most violent cult on planet earth.
Rolf Wittwer says
Condolences to the families of the very, very young victims!
Quick recovery of the injured!
Did the killer wear a T-Shirt, written on it: “I am/was 29 years old!”? And that’s it?
Something fishy again. And the whole world talking about “transparency”.
And again.
And again.
Same worldwide now.
Almost every attack is NOW being excused with mental or mental disorder of the perpetrator.
As in France, Germany, UK, Sweden and many other countries.

There’s nothing wrong with being an “armchair Columbo”.- who was the best detective as he sorted through the clues. In fact, it is good exercise for the brain and practicing probably will make us more observant in future circumstances. The first video clip I saw of the gunman looked like he was sporting a Jihadi beard and he was so methodical in his mission down the Danforth that he had to have learned it from somewhere. Hopefully this guy is not one of the returning ISIS fighters that Prime Minister Trudeau and Minister Goodale invited back to Canada.
I could be overly suspicious, but then I think back on the Annapolis Capital Gazette killings and the first photo they released of Jarrod Ramos showed him with a Jihadi style beard and then always after that any photo since shows him clean-shaven. What is that about? The story concentrates on the fact that he had a running issue with the newspaper but he could have eventually been inspired by the style of Jihadis, which is still very problematic.
I fear we will never get the truth from politicians nor the police…. so we will continue to be told that all these attacks are simply done by persons who have gone off the rails mentally.
So far an 18 year old girl and a 10 year old are casualties, with others in the hospitals in all stages of injury. Such a tragedy for families who expected to enjoy their evening as they always have done and then this happens. Hearts should break for victims over the needless and pointless slaughter that is happening worldwide, with a resolve to actively do our utmost to call our leaders to abandon political correctness and get the facts out so we can deal with them.
And yet, then there is Prime Minister Trudeau, who has just accepted on our behalf the White Helmets and their families. Even though they do dangerous and humanitarian work, are still not going to be vetted. Their children will grow up and who is to say where their loyalties will lie. O Canada …. who’s standing on guard for thee?
Agha Ali Arkhan says
Sure as Hell is not Trudeau! He stands for leading Canada into One World.

Not naming the suspects seems to be the new normal. Either that, or the suspects’ parents just forgot to name them when they were born. This is lunacy. It seems that the facts all have to line up with the Liberal narrative or they won’t be presented to the public.

C’mon Linda. You are living in Canada and know full well that the police give out no details when an investigation is going on unless there is impending danger to the public (usually). They don’t name a suspect until he/she is officially charged unless it is unavoidable. They tend to be deliberate and agonizingly slow BUT this is in every case and not just the sensitive ones. All too often the media tends to lose interest by then.
To imply 18 hours after an event that there is a cover-up coordinated by the Prime Minister’s office or by the locals to gain the PM’s favour is ludicrous.
Because this one happened in the COU (Center of the Universe — aka Toronto) I expect we will have the details sooner rather than later.

I just read below that they released the name. Must be because he’s dead. So much for my comment above.
Susan B says
His name is Faisal Hussain. A nice Irish sounding name.
DanC says
I heard at 12pm news already preparing the silence: “we may never know the motive since the gunman was killed at the scene”. Another casualty will be Toronto Greek Festival on the same street end of Aug. I bet it will be heavy security and police, less people and who will go will be worried and looking over the shoulder.
Doug Gaudry says
Just like Las Vegas, just disappeared from the media.Liberal Democrats,LIBERALS same thing, corrupt and would do anything to further their goals
Steve says
Yup it was a muslim. they just released the name
Linda says
They said the name on the news. Sounded something like Faisal Hussein. The family’s statement said that he had mental health problems. So, why did anyone let him have a gun?

No surprise there, the way the officials were pussyfooting all over the place about his identity. At least there’s the relief of having one’s suspicions confirmed. The perp’s name isn’t Turkish, but he may have been inspired by Erdogan’s eagerness to rebuild the Ottoman Empire, and went after Greeks.
Not being honest about the killer is such a disservice to the dead and wounded and their families.

Yes–the fact that he struck a Greek festival did not escape me. All Muslims seem to hate Greeks, even non-Turks. Greeks are some of the few Infidels who were able to take back their lands after centuries of Muslim conquest.
Linda says
Greeks even have their Independence Day Parade every year in Toronto.

That’s great, Linda–and something I did not know.

So, a muslim after all! My narrowmind directs me to blame Islam. I apologize to all the peace-lovers who welcome muslims with open arms.
