“Preventing commerce, jeopardizing local jobs, and compromising the health future of the port will only hurt Oakland and the region … Many port truck drivers only get paid if they pick up and drop off containers.”
Yes. And also, supporting Hamas’ genocidal jihad is not a good look, no matter how fashionable it is today among Leftists.
“Protesters Keep Israeli Ship from Unloading At Port Of Oakland,” CBS San Francisco, June 4, 2021:
OAKLAND (CBS SF/BCN) — Hundreds of demonstrators protested the arrival Friday morning at the Port of Oakland of an Israeli ship from Asia as part of an effort to support Palestinians in their conflict with Israel, according to organizers and port officials.
The protesters carried signs and waved the Palestinian flags outside the port, blocking truck traffic from four marine terminals.
“We will no longer sit and watch as the Israeli government massacres Palestinians, as it continues 73 years of colonization of dispossession of ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people,” said Mohamed Shehk of the Arab Resource and Organizing Center.
A number of truck drivers blared their horns in support of the gathering, with participants calling for an economic boycott of Israel after the 11-day Israeli-Palestinian armed conflict.
ILWU Local 10 President Trent Willis said while he and dozens of other longshoremen couldn’t work, he supports the demonstrators and said it’s their right….
A spokesperson for the Port of Oakland sent a statement saying in part while it supports free speech, “Preventing commerce, jeopardizing local jobs, and compromising the health future of the port will only hurt Oakland and the region … Many port truck drivers only get paid if they pick up and drop off containers.”
“We’ve declared victory for the morning,” Wassim Hage, a spokesman for the protesters, said at about 9 a.m. from the Port of Oakland.
Hage is with the Arab Resource and Organizing Center, which advocates in the Bay Area for the Palestinian movement and sponsored the protest aimed at stopping workers from unloading the ship….

I suspect based on my reading and research this interference with commerce is a violation of the Hobbs Act, 18 United States Code Section 1951. Search and read the district and appeals court cases of United States v. Gary Greenough for a start, and read the entire statute to see what is prohibited.
Jim says
The authorities should do something to permit the ship to unload. Such obstruction should not be permitted in the USA. Put some of them in jail and on trial. This is not the Near East, we are a sovereign nation and civilized. Let the barbarians do this somewhere. Or deport some of them. It is not good.
Frank Anderson says
Jim, under US law, particularly 18 United States Code Section 2, anyone who aids, abets, counsels or acts in furtherance of a federal felony is equally guilty of the crime. Hobbs Act crimes are felonies. In addition to the Gary Greenough cases I mentioned earlier, you might also be interested in reading the United States v. Dan Alexander, also arising from interference with interstate commerce in Mobile Alabama and being argued on appeal.

Does this means ships from the islamic empires colonies are fair game?
Keith O says
Only in the Islamic republic of California would this be tolerated.
I’m surprised that the ratpack of Omar, AOC and Co. haven’t spouted their support of this criminal act via twitter or that other bastion of free speech, Farce book.

Since Oakland is in the district of Pelosi, Kamala Harris and former base for Marxist BLM, it won’t surprise me, if they get away with the obstruction of foreign commerce. They seem to think laws aren’t for Socialist Democrats, only Trump and Republicans. I imagine they knew about the preplanned, organized obstruction of foreign commerce.

………………
I’ve been following this disgusting story. Port officials have described this as “freedom of speech”–but of course preventing a ship from unloading is actually an act of aggression, *not* speech.

GI, is FBI still located at 450 Goldengate in San Francisco?

Yes, it is, Frank. There are also two sattelite offices right here in Oakland. I haven’t heard about an FBI presense at the demonstration–although there might have been.

I am proving that I have lived a long time including the days of my radio interest in the 1960’s. There are several recordings, including the one you found and also by The Tamerlanes from 1963.
Please since I do not know how to send you my papers, When to Keep Silent and Nuremberg Rule in the Workplace, read the Greenough and Alexander cases. The judges explain the Hobbs Act and RICO with amazing simplicity and clarity. The honest question for the moment is whether a person complaining of crimes today would get the same “We don’t care. . . ” response I received in 1986 when reporting ongoing obstruction of justice and witness tampering.
Interfering with shipping, interstate or international, is illegal, and the US Supreme Court has so ruled. But, will the law be enforced this time?
gravenimage says
Thank you, Frank. I’ll look them up. But I *knew* this had to be illegal.
Frank Anderson says
GI, I would never impose on your friendship by wasting your time or blowing smoke. I ask you to take on faith until you read the cases, that knowing and understanding are not quite the same. When you see the language (not verbiage) written by the court, particularly in the Dan Alexander case, 850 F.2d 1500 (11th Cir. 1988), you will see how obviously federal law has been violated by a whole collection of people who should be indicted, prosecuted and convicted. Please remember that my research for those 2 papers was read and “blessed” by my state bar’s Executive Director and General Counsel and by one of my law professors who served as a United States Attorney for 2 terms.

Agreed, Frank. I always appreciate your knowledge–especially of legal matters.
Eli 7777 says
Yes, 1951 Law said obstruction of foreign commerce should get fines and/or 20 yrs. jail time. Oakland is Pelosi, and Kamala Harris’s area, so the Arabs probably felt safe. But someone needs to go after them. Strange how Kamala Harris helped to raise funds for the bail of the Marxist BLM rioters, and a video shows she praised their cause. This violated the Riot Act. Then several times, Rep. Maxine Waters was able to get away with inciting, and encouraging the rioters. A video shows, she told them to ignore curfew and become more confrontational. Rand Paul was confronted after the Republican Convention last summer, and several Republican candidates and representatives were intimidated. They only think rules or laws are for Trump and Republicans.
OLD GUY says
There you go Biden/Harris the muslim/islamic invasion force in action right here in America. Will the American government prosecute these people and organization for breaking the law? Probably NOT.
And here I thought that the LAWS of this great nation applied to all. Seems there is a loop hole in the legal system that allows the prosecutor the sole right to choose to bring or not, charges against someone or organization without repercussions. That’s how the rich and famous and politically connected get away with criminal acts and not get prosecuted.
Thats just WRONG.
Oren Wysocki says
Considering every single muslim country discriminates against its christians and other non muslims, it should be the muslims that are worried about facing A boycott, but the majority of americans have already decided they are not going to tell the truth about islam, so what’s another lie, and another act of discrimination against the Jews, they are already covering up for many human rights violations around the world, or ignoring them in the case of some people. In G-d I trust.
Norman Gardner Gardner says
The barbarians are here and organizing. Oakland is a shit hole to start with and I hope many ship owners take their cargoes somewhere else and the longshoreman and their allies who do not believe in human rights find themselves looking for jobs.
Frank Anderson says
N.G., I think that is the rational approach when the federal government fails to enforce the law. There are other ports with easy access both water and land, that would welcome additional ships and treat them warmly and courteously. It is rare where a non-governmental party (individual or group) can step in where mobs control if the federal government turns away. I had to many years ago, alone against the power of an entire corrupt state, because I had 2 choices, fight or die. I fought and gave much better than I got; but the price was high. If any alternative exists, such as the excellent one you suggest, it fits the advice I received from a very highly regarded lawyer: “Does this put money in my pocket or does it take it out?” Take money away from the bad and make money for yourself instead of spending it on combat, legal or otherwise.
The ship line might consider the Port of Mobile Alabama as one alternative (about an hour or so from Gulf to dock). There is an active dock with plenty of cranes and facilities ready for more. Come South to see real business and hospitality. And there are some really upright people to enforce the law when needed. George Soros prosecutors need not apply.

Actually, much of Oakland is quite beautiful, and Oakland is the second largest port on the west coast.
That it is such a major port makes this thuggery being allowed all the worse.
