They don’t know what WW I was. WW II is different as they had a hero in that one – Hitler. The mufti of Jerusalem was planning on a German victory which would have allowed him to duplicate the Holocaust in Europe to one in the Middle East. I read somewhere that the ovens for Jews was to be built in Nablus. Muslims, especially Egyptians and Palestinians, have a hatred of Jews that surpasses that of Germans. These Arabs use Jews to explain the failure of Muslims, of Islam, of Arab culture that is centuries behind every other in the world. In 1950 the economy of China was similar to that of Egypt. While China grew together with other Asian nations, especially Japan and S. Korea, Egypt stayed in neutral. The Islamic world is a failed world. How to explain that? It cannot be Islam and Muslim cultures. So they used the same excuse that Nazi Germany did. The Jews are the problem. In the Arab quest to destroy Israel, it became stronger and stronger and Arabs went backwards. A Humiliation for Islam. Be careful what you wish for.

In WWI, the Ottoman Caliphate was a part of the losing side, & was ended after the war, even if by Kemal Mustafa rather than the Allies. Still, the jihadists hold the Allies responsible for the end of the Caliphate (it was after the fall of the Ottoman Caliphate that the Muslim Brotherhood was founded)
Therefore, even above their garden variety hatred for everything kafir, those among them who know the history have an added reason to deface those monuments

It will be like trading in the market. Periodically pressuring until sure of capitulation. The easiest society to absorb is a democracy because consensus remains unobtainable until an existential threat is already in progress.
