Reem Raiyshi
"A female Palestinian suicide bomber blew herself up Wednesday at the major crossing point between Israel and the Gaza Strip, killing at least four Israelis and wounding seven other people, Israeli rescue services and media said." This from AP.
"The bomber set off the explosion in the area where thousands of Palestinian laborers and foreigners pass between Israel and the coastal strip, Israeli officials said. Four of the wounded were Palestinians, the army said.
"Hamas and the Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, linked to Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement, issued a joint claim of responsibility.
"They identified the bomber as Reem Raiyshi, a 21-year-old Hamas militant. She apparently is the first female suicide bomber from the militant Islamic fundamentalist group.
"Hamas spiritual leader Sheik Ahmed Yassin said the use of a woman bomber was unique, but added that holy war 'is an obligation of all Muslims, men and women.'
Arutz Sheva reports that Reem Raiyshi was the mother of two children. (Thanks to Bruce Gordon.)

does anyone have any fresh ideas as to how to stop
a suicide jihadist/terrorist?
i.e.: how can a war be won against a technique of warfare that is impossible to defend against?
wake up bush!
Simply put... Disgusting.
What kind of woman or mother would abandon her children.
animals..... They are all animals.
Posted by: Wild Hare at January 14, 2004 11:34 AMThe problem is Israel is not fighting it like a war.
Palestine is fighting it like a war. Palestine believes they are in a war and are treating like one. Israel is not, and until Israel does, this is going to happen. Israel was on the right track by systematically attacking the heads of these groups. It was then that the factions of PLO wanted to talk.
I say go back to that line and start from there.
Kill them until they beg you to stop.
Then you can talk peace.
these acts display the power of the theology of islam.
it will take something(or rather SOME ONE)big enough to handle this menace.
my conviction is that the jewish Messiah
Yeshua Ha'Machiach: Jesus Christ is the only one
who can put a permanent stop to it, and he will do it only when he returns to rescue israel from daniel's 5th gentile western/arabian empire.
These are very dark and serious times. Yes I will agree. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is the only true answer to this problem.
Posted by: Wild Hare at January 14, 2004 11:50 AMNo offense to the religious people on this forum, but neither Jesus nor Messiah will solve the terrorism in Israel. People who believe that killing a Jew is their ticket to heaven cannot be reasoned with on any religious platform.
Why is Yassin (the Hamas spiritual leader) still alive? Why is he permitted to incite murder? Why has the West romanticized Palestinian terrorists into "freedom fighters"? Who is on Israel's side these days? Anti-semitism is now chic, politically correct and the new zeitgeist. The last time this happened, Adolph became Fuhrer. Who will be Fuhrer this time? Some nuclear Ayatollah in Iran?
Israel needs to defend herself by all means possible.
Do not get me wrong. I'm not saying Israel should lie and wait for the Messiah. We all have an obligation to defend ourselves.
As Christians we have an obligation, for we cannot effectively share the word if we have all been killed now can we?
As for Israel it is their obligation to protect what is theirs. That is God granted land. I care very little for what Palestinians believe. It was Jewish land granted by God. It was fought for and won by the Jews many times. The Palestinians are the invaders in that land. If it were Palestinian land then why was the temple destroyed and a Mosque built on top. Muslims in fact did invade Israel. They won the land, and now they have lost the land. It is as simple as that.
It's not a war of religions per se; it's a war of fundamental ideas--a war of epistemology, ethics, metaphysics, and esthetics. The philosophically sophisticated among you will recognize the accuracy of this statement.
To fail to understand this is to lose the conflict, for we will not have the ammunition necessary to win.
Posted by: cubed at January 14, 2004 2:01 PMP.S. Wild Hare, I certainly understand your sentiments, but I ask you please, do not insult animals by comparing them with these morally corrupt people who deliberately abandon their babies.
How many animal mothers do you know of who deliberately abandon their babies? They may get killed while trying to feed and shelter their babies, but they don't just go out and not return.
Find some consolation in the fact that in a sense, we have seen this woman clean up the gene pool, if only a little, by preventing the birth of more like her. The four she chose to abandon will learn the same garbage she learned, but at least it won't be five, six, or seven.
Every little bit helps.
Wild Hare,
Moslems invaded Europe too. I try to take the religion issue out of this for our non-religious European "friends" who seem to have forgotten the Turkish armies outside of Vienna. I also recognize that Israel has existed since the dawn of time and there would be no Koran or Bible without the Torah. However, presenting religion as the main basis for justifying the existence of Israel is a losing battle. Moslems believe that Mohammed is the last prophet and therefore holds the ultimate truth, and Christians believe that Jesus came to replace the Old testament with the New.
I prefer to believe that the United Nations, in a rare and historical moment of self-examination over the ashes of 6,000,000 Jews, agreed to the creation of the modern state of Israel after centuries of pogroms, inquisitions, hatred, persecutions, blood libels and finally, genocide. And I believe, as human beings, we have a responsibility to remember our history and our promises. I respect your religion and your support of Israel and I wish that non-religious people would also see the injustice of what is happening to the Jewish people today.
Wild Hare. Just for your information, Palestinians are not all muslims. 15% are Christians just like you. They are people with dignity and have the right to live peacefully. It it never God's way to kill in order to posses a land. If Jews think that by killing palestinians and taking away the land they lived in for a long time, when the isralites were in exile,if they think they are fullfilling a prophesy by God, it is definitely their version of god and not our Christian Jesus who is the source of peace, justice and non-violence. Read the new testament not the old. The testament of Jesus Christ. In the new testament it does say that the 12 tribes shall return to Israel but it never said that it should be done in such a murderous and bloody way. After all if God is able to fulfill a proshesy why do we need the aggressive hand of man... Have you ever compared what jews are doing to jihadists.
Posted by: concerned at January 14, 2004 2:42 PMDear Concerned:
"Palestinians are not all muslims. 15% are Christians"
There used to be a lot more, but most Christian Palestinians have emmigrated abroad since the rise of the Islamic fundamentalists in the Middle East.
"If Jews think that by killing palestinians and taking away the land they lived in for a long time, when the isralites were in exile,if they think they are fullfilling a prophesy by God, it is definitely their version of god and not our Christian Jesus who is the source of peace, justice and non-violence."
Jews have never killed Palestinians to take their land. Read your history books. And as far as your Christian Jesus being the source of peace, justice and non-violence, you seem to have forgotten the Holy Inquisition, the deep-rooted anti-semitism in the Christian church, the sectarian killings in Northern Ireland, and, as any good Muslim will immediately remind you, the Crusades.
This is why we should be leaving religion out of this, folks.
Posted by: zorkmidden at January 14, 2004 3:05 PM"Kill them untill they beg you to stop," is NEVER an appropriate response for a Christian to make.
Zorkmidden gives some excellent examples of what happens when Christians forget to bare the fruit of the Holy Spirit (love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control) as Jesus Christ taught us. Man, not God, bares full responsibility for the evil that we do in this world.
Zorkmidden makes another excellent point in that Christians should not bring religion into the Israel/Palestine conflict. It simply clouds the issue. I don't buy the argument that we should do whatever we think is necessary to ensure the existance of Israel because God says Israel must exist. What we should be doing is seeking justice for all involved. That may seem nieve to veterans of the Israel/Palestine debate but I think it is a better approach than many that have been tired. I guess that leads to the question of what does justice look like?
In any case, some children are now without a mother because she was twisted enough to believe that blowing herself up was a better option for Palestine than loving and raising her children. It's the most depressing thing I've heard in a while.
The Israelis should not bother about world opinion, should go all out. Ever heard of the Briggs plan ?
http://pachome1.pacific.net.sg/~alfarabi/briggs.htm
the conflict in Israel means nothing,it is not the root of deep muslim hatred against non-muslims.
The roots of the problems are in the QURAN.
From the Arab News - Jan. 15:
"At the Erez crossing yesterday morning, a woman identified as Reem Raiyashi, 22, told soldiers checking that she would set off a metal detector because she had an implant to repair a broken leg. She was taken for a security search to a special room, where she set off the bomb, said Maj. Sharon Feingold, a miltary spokeswoman."

Posted by: Jay Stevens at January 15, 2004 7:32 AMCan anyone tell me why the body of a homicide killer is returned so nicely? Why is she not covered in pig fat and blood or just not returned at all? Is it for world opinion to see what the Palestinians are like? But to look at the pictures, the coffin carrying guys are getting their martyr back. Marilyn
Posted by: Marilyn at January 15, 2004 9:41 AMEVERYONE NEEDS TO WAKE UP AND START SEEING WHAT IS REALLY HAPPENING IN PALESTINE. THE ISREALIS HAVE SO MUCH POWER OVER THE PALESTINENS, THEY DEMOLISH THEIR HOUSES, ARREST THEIR MEN, AND KILL INNOCENT PEOPLE, NOW THINK ABOUT IT HOW CAN THE PALESTINANS DEFEND THEMSELVES WHEN ALL THEIR RIGHTS ARE TAKEN. PEOPLE FOCUS TO MUCH ON RELIGION AND FORGET THAT INNOCENT ISREALIS AND PALESTINENS ARE DYING, AND FOR WHAT? IF EVERYONE STOPS BEING PREDJUDICE TOWARDS A CERTAIN GROUP AND START REALIZING THAT THESE ARE HUMAN BEINGS SUFFERING IN WAYS WE CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE THEN MAYBE THEY COULD WORK TOWARDS PEACE.
JUST KEEP THE INNOCENT IN YOUR PRAYERS, WHETHER YOU ARE MUSLIMS, CHRISTIANS, OR JEWS
My dear Yasmine,
I have nothing but sympathy for the Palestinians, as they are increasingly victimized by a jihadist leadership that is taking them on a course of death and destruction and preventing any peaceful settlement. Only if they renounce the jihadist assumptions that non-Muslims cannot rule in any part of that land, and that they can only live there as dhimmis, can fruitful negotiations even be possible.
Cordially,
RS
