Al-Qaradawi (Photo from the French radical Muslim site Islamophile.org)
As an influential Islamic radical backs a new Boston mosque, note the contradictory statements in Arabic and in English. Note also that Al-Qaradawi is praised by establishment Islamic scholar John Esposito as a champion of a "reformist interpretation of Islam and its relationship to democracy, pluralism and human rights." From the Boston Herald, with thanks to Susan:
A towering new mosque soon to join the Boston skyline has the secret endorsement of a radical, anti-Western cleric who preaches Muslims will one day ``conquer'' the United States. The endorsement of the $22 million mosque and cultural center project in Roxbury by the cleric, Dr. Yusuf Abdullah al-Qaradawi, appears prominently in an Arabic-language brochure published last year by the Islamic Society of Boston, which is the group Mayor Thomas M. Menino has approved to construct the mosque.
Al-Qaradawi's enthusiastic backing of the project is nowhere to be found in the group's English-language brochure.
After the backers of the mosque denied any connection to the radical sheik in October, the Herald obtained a copy of the Arabic brochure, had it independently translated and discovered al-Qaradawi's endorsement of the project.
The influential Qatar-based cleric is best known for his public support of the terrorist group Hamas and his religious rulings applauding suicide bombings, positions which caused the U.S. State Department in 1999 to bar him from entering the United States.
Beyond that, however, al-Qaradawi also promises that eventually Islam will prevail over all other religions and a single Islamic state will rule the world.
Al-Qaradawi says some countries will fall to the armed Islamic jihad, but in others, such as the United States, victory will come through Da'awa - the teaching of Islam to non-Muslims - which will trigger Westerners to convert to Islam ``in droves.''
``We will conquer Europe, we will conquer America! Not through (the) sword, but through Da'awa,'' al-Qaradawi told members of the Muslim Arab Youth Association at the group's 1995 convention in Toledo, Ohio.
In its Arabic language brochure, the Islamic Society of Boston states that al-Qaradawi is one of ``several international Islamic personalities who are working to support the project.''
The pamphlet quotes ``a video recording taped specifically to support the project'' in which al-Qaradawi says: ``This is one of the greatest projects, and supporting it is one of the best deeds, and establishing it is a step that will greatly benefit Islam and Muslims. May Allah reward well those overseeing it.''
The Herald has reported that a videotape message by al-Qaradawi was shown during a November 2002 fund-raiser for the project at the Sheraton Boston Hotel.
The importance of the Boston mosque project to al-Qaradawi and other supporters is made clear by the soaring height - 120 feet - of the minaret tower planned for the site. In Islam, the height of a mosque's minaret represents the power and influence of the Muslims who worship there.
In the society's Arabic-language brochure, one of its directors, Walid A. Fitaihi, said the Boston mosque's minaret will be the tallest in the country.
``This is a dream for generations of Muslims which is beginning to be accomplished here in the heart of the city of Boston,'' Fitaihi said. ``We will build, with Allah's permission, an Islamic cultural center and we will raise the tallest minaret on a mosque in the United States.''
Al-Qaradawi's active support of the Boston mosque - in Arabic only - contradicts the society's statements in English about its relationship with the cleric.
In October, the society said: ``Dr. Yousef al-Quaradawi has never played any role in the ISB.''
On its Web site, the society claims it has no ``significant or longstanding relationship'' with al-Qaradawi and its only dealings with al-Qaradawi came in 1993, ``long before he was considered a controversial figure.'' He was offered a position as an honorary trustee, but declined, the society said.
However, records show al-Qaradawi's name was listed on federal tax forms as recently as 2001 as a member of the society's board of directors. When questioned by the Herald in October, the society claimed that was an ``administrative oversight.''
Asked to explain al-Qaradawi's endorsement in the Arabic brochure, the society's lawyer, Albert Farrah, declined comment.
Meanwhile, in March 2003, al-Qaradawi issued a religious ruling, a fatwa, encouraging Muslim women, as well as men, to become suicide bombers in the name of Allah and jihad.
Since that ruling, two female suicide bombers have blown themselves up in Israel, killing 25 people.
Now in his late 70s, al-Qaradawi is a senior member of the Muslim Brotherhood - a group widely viewed as the oldest and most influential radical Islamic organization in the world.
According to its Web site, the Muslim Brotherhood's ultimate objective is ``mastering the world with Islam.''
UPDATE, May 2: I just discovered by chance that the link doesn't work; it now points to an older story about a pedophile priest. This is true when you search for the article at Google as well. The article itself seems to have vanished from the Herald website. Does this disappearance, along with the link pointing to an article that shows Christianity in an unfavorable light, suggest the presence of a jihadist in the Herald offices?

The two faces of Islam on display
Posted by: basil at March 9, 2004 3:31 PMJohn Esposito and his cohorts, John Voll and Yvonne Haddad, are the axis of Islamo-apologia in the US. They must be discredited at all costs.
Readers should email vigorous protests to their media outlets every time these "experts" are given air time or print space to "explain" Islam to us.
Posted by: Susan at March 9, 2004 3:44 PMWe keep ourselves bussy by making sure we are politically correct and don`t offend anyone, while the mulims are building mosques in the US.
One more step towards imposing the deadly sharia right here in our country.
We are stuppid,blind,suicidal weaklings.

``We will conquer Europe, we will conquer America! Not through (the) sword, but through Da'awa,''
How do you say "Ein Reich, ein Volk, ein Fuehrer!" in Arabic?
Posted by: James G. Jackson at March 9, 2004 5:40 PMWe will fight them in the desert. We will fight them in the city. We will fight them in the country. We will fight them in the synagogues. We will fight them in the churches. We will fight them and never give up. Never give up. We will raise the blood stained banner of the Cross over Mecca and Medina, and every knee of Islam show bow and every formerly Islamic tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ -- the only begotten son of the One True and Living God, YHWH of Hosts, besides Him there is none other -- is the Lord. No matter what happens, I have this assurance. I know how the story ends. Jesus Lives, the victory's won. Islam shall never prevail.

Posted by: D.C. Watson at March 9, 2004 10:05 PMMore Taqayyah. Why am I not surpried?
Posted by: Hal at March 9, 2004 10:47 PMIt is a never ending constant that prevails in the Islamic Community. What is said in English is not what is said in Arabic. We have seen it with the likes of Sami Al Sariyan, The Florida college professor, and we have seen it with Yassar Arafat and many other Islamic leaders. They preach hate against jews and christians in Arabic, and in English they are like your nice friendly neighbor. Rita Katz who grew up in Iraq and speaks English, and Arabic has written a book called " Terrorist Hunter" and has seen first hand how many Clerics in America speak hate against America when they speak in Arabic. Many Mosques in America are being dominated and financed by the radical fundalmentalist thinking of Wahhabism which has its roots in Saudi Arabia. Among more moderate Muslims, Wahhabism is referred to as the "death cult". And yet its extreme, and radical thinking continues to invade and even take over many of the moderate mosques in America with what it calls Pure Islam.
Posted by: Mackie at March 9, 2004 11:16 PMActually,Nathan, your idea about bringing civil law suits against hate preaching mosques,it`s genious.
There is no better way right now in America,to fight, harass, intimidate or force into submission, not to say anything about financial destitution,of persons/institutions,than civil law suits.
I`m also surprised nobody has done it yet, buti`m almost certain it will start soon.
The media, for some reason, has started lately to be less curteous towards islam, the political leaders have also started to speak up.
I was watching the O`Reilly show tonight and one of the guests,a congresman, clearly stated,on national tv,that about 80% of the mosques in the US are under radical islamist control...something that nobody would have dared to say just a few months ago.
He also said that he expects a very agressive response from CAIR.
The fact that the media has started this trend is very encouraging, and once it picks up steam,it will result in the death of sharia-run-America-muslim-dream.
One single civil law suit against hate preaching mosques, here in America, could be the begining of the end for them.
If i had the money,i would hire Mr.Daniel Pipes or Mr.Robert Spencer as a consultant and a very high profile lawyer and bring a huge civil law suit against them.
Adela,USA.
Speaking of lawsuits, I think this is just the beginning:

Posted by: Hal at March 10, 2004 5:40 AMha ha ha....pathetic midddle aged losers, who can't get boy/girlfriends. So they channel their frustrations against Islam. Go back and all of you read your posts, you sound like cry babies. Rather than trying to 'destroy' Islam; why don't you build up Christianity. You can't because apart from 'feelings in your heart' there is no logic in the changed bible. 'Heck you people don't even follow the bible. Jesus fobade pork, yet you eat that. Jesus forbade alcohol, yet you drink alcohol.
If Jesus the son of Mary could see you today he would be soooo ashamed of you.
'God is the Greatest'
Posted by: umar at March 10, 2004 6:38 AMumar,
If Jesus forbade alcohol, why the story on His changing water into wine? Or is that also something else we are taking out of context? Or maybe we do not understand the nuances of the language. Or it is poetry and does not mean what it says.

Posted by: Jay Stevens at March 10, 2004 8:03 AMUmar.....your religion? what say you? Obviously you know how to call everyone that you don't know names. What is your religion? You Muslim or Christian?
Are you a soothsayer? You called us "pathetic midddle aged losers, who can't get boy/girlfriends." Are you another Islamic apologist? We see enough of those weaklings come to this site, they usually leave, licking their wounds..never to return.
I gotta tell you...The History Channel had a show on Monday night called "Punishment". All of these whacko radical Islamists should watch it if it runs again. It demonstrates how people were punished throughout history.
After the show, I came to the conclusion that out of all of the civilizations they showed, No one, absolutely no one, dispensed punishment like the Christians. Islamists need to keep that in mind, as they make their primitive attempts to take over the world.

Democracy has a downside , it makes us complacent . We excuses our attackers and blame the victims.
Is this what happened to the Roman and Greek empires ?
Is there an answer to this invasion ?
Umar,
Please answer me this:
Do you deny that Mohammad was a megalomaniac, a liar, a murderer, an adulterer, and a paedophile?
Every time I ask this question to Muslims they go quiet and don't answer me. Why don't Muslims try to defend Mohammad? Is it because you know these allegations are true? Are you embarrassed about your prophet? Are you ashamed of his character? Why don't Muslims answer me?
Lo, my email address is real - send me a private message if you prefer. Just someone tell me why you follow the teachings of an obnoxious man.
It is central to Islam that as the the True Faith it will conquer the world. The Islamic End Days vision is of Jesus descending from heaven and leading a genocidal war to conquer the globe.
Muslims believe that Jesus was a prophet in the Islamic tradition, that he was not crucified, and that he ascended to heaven alive.
Here is the Islamic End Days vision: The Jews will anoint a false messiah, called the “Dajjal.” (the Anti-Christ). Jesus will descend from heaven and declare himself a prophet in the Islamic tradition. He will “break the cross” (to show that the crucifixion was a hoax) and slaughter the swine (showing that the dietary laws should be observed and the pork is forbidden). He will then lead the Muslim armies to kill the Dajjal and exterminate every Jew on the face of the earth. “And the trees and rocks shall call out, oh believer, there is a Jew hiding behind me, kill him.” With all the Jews killed and Christianity eliminated, Islam will reign supreme.
This comes of an authentic tradition (ahadith) of the words of Muhammad. All these Islamists believe it. That is why throughout the Islamic World whenever the clerics are condemning America they also blame "the Jews, the Zionists" -- their bigotry and hatred is beyond bounds.
If you wish to learn more, do an internet search with the phrase "Dajjal and Jews" and see what you find. It is really very sickening.
Posted by: michael at March 10, 2004 10:24 AMSo D C Watson, you have just admitted that the Christians A.K.A kiddie fiddlers are the most barbaric people in the history of civilisation. Refer to D C Watsons post Phil.
Ys Phil, I know that the Holy Prophet Mohammed (P.B.U.H) the successor to Jesus the son of Mary, was not a meglomaniacm, or a paedophile, or a liar, or a murderer. But I suppose that is too difficult for you to comprhend, as you'd rather fiddle little children, and not concentrate on anything else, excpet for hear'say.
No Watson UBL is not my boy friend as that would be a homosexual relationship and i am after all not a priest/bishop. So i dont want to be seen trying to take their position.
besides Bin Laden is in bed with the CIA, and G.W.Bush...
Listen up children,
Instead of comparing the size of your genitals (which, by the way, the size of the minaret is used), why not just look at and compare Christianity and Islam NOW? It is standard Muslim argument to compare Christianity in 1100 or 1500 with Islam now.
Islam could never possibly 'conquer' America with just persuasion. Anyone that bothers to actually read the Koran (in English, translated by some approved Arab) will come away nauseated. What woman would want to live like an Arab woman? Arab men are positively terrified of women, and keep them wrapped up because they know that all Arab men are rapists underneath.
Islam is anti-human, anti-thought, anti-introspection, anti-love and simply hate-filled. It simply cannot stand up to any kind of enlightened analysis or criticism. Muslim are reduced to shouting and blathering.
Our only job is to open the eyes of people who do not spend time at this website or other websites like this one. We are preaching to the converted.
Umar does not even recognize that the Hebrew and Christian Bibles are originals. He is so pathetic that responding to him is useless because he cannot even understand what the word history means.
Umar,
You are mistaken regarding your comments about what Jesus forbade. HE never forbade the eating of pork or the use of wine.
Regarding pork, the Jewish dietary restriction against eating it was nullified when Saint Peter was told to kill and eat this and other animals in scripture. This was the beginning of allowing Gentiles to be preached the Gospel and make it easier for their assimilation. I can give you Chapter and verse if you would like.
As for wine, Jesus' first miracle was to change water into wine. If he had any opposition to this, it would not have happened. Furthermore, Jesus uses wine at the Last Supper to establish the new Covenant.
As for Jesus not being crucified, this is a historical fact. I will grant you the Ressurection is an Act of Faith and as a non-Christian, I don't expect you to believe it. The denial of the crucifixion has to do with mohammed and muslims being unable to accept the possibility that God would allow one of his prophets to be killed. The further error is the belief in the dubious Gospel of Thomas, which was never considered authentic or consistent with Christian Tradition and Theology, that alludes to the switching of Jesus. Furthermore, the Gospel of Barnabas that has been proved to be a 13th Century fake that is along the same line.
I have a very difficult time accepting Islam, the Qura'n, and Mohammed as a prophet when in my Christian Faith Jesus says to love your enemies, do good to those who persecute you while Mohammed say to slay the unbelievers. Jesus came for every one, all are equal in the eyes of God but the Sharia relegates non-muslims to second-class status and imposes hardships on them to "humiliate" them. Jesus never ordered the killing of 600 people like Mohammmed oredered the killing of 600 Jews. Jesus says that God created Man and Woman for marriage, no polygamy but Mohammed can have more than 4 wives and can even marry a 9 year old girl.
I'm sorry Umar, but there is absolutely no comparison between Jesus and Mohammed.
Umar, I would like to invite you to accept Jesus Christ because Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
I will pray for your conversion.
Sincerely,
John
Posted by: John at March 10, 2004 12:23 PMYes......point being..Christians can and will dispence punishment on the smaller, dumber radical Islamists that not only threaten freedom everywhere, but disgrace Muslims, period.
Radical Islam is a fungus, an infestation, and an embarrassment to the entire world. So Umar, if you support this, and them......you would fall into that category as well.
Terrorist lover? Umar? Could be....

Posted by: D C Watson at March 10, 2004 3:01 PMHey Umar, I have a friend who was in Riyahd and saw them behead a guy in the public square for sodomizing two young boys. Of course in muslim countries the men hold hands, fondle and kiss each other, so what can you expect? Looks like buggery isn't limited to the West.
Posted by: Hal at March 10, 2004 9:48 PMIslam is picked up by disaffected Americans or those that are searching for something. They are deluded into thinking that a better life will come.
It's amazing that a mosque of that "caliber" is coming to blue-nose Boston, to Kerry's and Kennedy's state. She what you wrought with your unabashed liberalism.
The hate-preachers that incite violence should be labeled what they are: murder contractors - inciting for homicide bombings and other types of murders. In American law, the inciter, or the guy that makes the contract is just as guilty as the person that pulls the trigger, or possibly, in this case, the guy that triggers the bomb. Other recent hate group leaders have been prosecuted for inciting violence - for abortion rights, animal rights, etc. Some of them are religious leaders. It seems to me that Islamic clerics that call for bombings and other kinds of violent intimidation, whether in English, Arabic, or any tongue, can be held accountable in the same manner that these others have been.
Posted by: epg at March 11, 2004 6:15 AMUmar,
You deny that Mohammed was a wicked man. But I did not base my allegation on hearsay - I based it on verifiable historical facts. So either your religious teachers and history books have deceived you, or your conscience has become so warped that your definition of 'wickedness' grossly inaccurate. I suspect all Muslims have a blind spot when looking at Mohammed's character.
My question was not abusive towards Islam - I was merely stating historical facts. So it is very revealing that you replied with abusive slander. You were not able to marshall any arguments to deny my description of Mohammed, so you resorted to insulting me as a form of self-defence. That confirms the fallacy of your position and the truth of my opinion of Mohammed.
Some muslims I have met are reasonable people with whom I can debate these things. But you seem to be brainwashed and frightened to face the facts. I sincerely feel sorry for you.

U.S. Rep slams mosque leader's writings
http://news.bostonherald.com/localRegional/view.bg?articleid=2795
WE CAN NOT ALLOW THEM TO ANYMORE MOSQUES HERE IN AMERICA. IT IS BECAUSE, OF THERE EVIL CULT OF A RELIGION THIS WORLD IS NOT AT PEACE AND THEY MUST BE STOPED. Militant Islamists in the United States and their allies have set their sights on our American children. They seek to provide an education similar to that taught in the controlled regimes of the Arab world. So far, American textbook suppliers are more than willing to accommodate them. It is well known that the Palestine Authority, Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Arab world use propaganda in their schools to support Islamic hegemony and stir up sentiment against Israel and the West. Students in the Middle East are taught to distrust Christians and Jews and are then taught to apply those lessons to opposing the free and democratic—and non-Muslim—nations of the world. These lessons serve to buttress the dictatorships of the Arab world. But now, prestigious American textbook publishers such as Prentice-Hall, Simon and Schuster, TCI and others are educating your child to the “Arab point of view” and its aspirations of world domination through what the Islamic world calls Dawa, a means of proselytizing unbelievers to the faith. They are doing this no matter how much that point of view may be distorted, farfetched or, in some extreme cases, outright lies.
WE MUST SPEAK UP AND STOP THEM ALSO, SPEAK UP FOR THOSE CHRISTIANS WHO ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DEFEND THEMSELVES IN THE MIDDLE EAST .
