Maybe it was ETA and Al-Qaeda

Mohamed Ibn Guadi has kindly forwarded me a link to an interesting October 1, 2001 article by one Paolo Pontoniere: "In Spain: ETA and Al-Qaeda Forge New Anti-EU Alliance."

The Basque terrorist organization ETA and bin Laden's al-Qaeda cells have joined forces. Their shared goal: to organize and carry out an attack on the EU meeting scheduled for March 2002 in Barcelona, according to two Spanish publications, Tiempo and El Mundo.

According to the reports, which have been confirmed by Italian and French media, representatives of the two terrorist organizations have already met together three times in Brussels in December 2000; in Malaga, Spain in February 2001; and in Barcelona last July.

According to the European reports, the terrorists have planned a suicide attack on the meeting that would entail the use of five car bombs provided by ETA, and delivered by five al-Qaeda suicide drivers. European authorities consider this news credible, and have disclosed that Mohammed Atta--one of the terrorists responsible for the early September attack on the World Trade Center--may have also attended the July meeting between ETA and al-Qaeda in Barcelona.

In its report, Tiempo revealed that, thanks to a tip-off by US Navy intelligence, Spanish authorities were able to prevent another al-Qaeda attack last December. This one would have involved striking American aircraft carriers with suicide vessels filled with the deadly explosive C-4. The attack--like the assault on the USS Cole in a Yemeni port--was scheduled to take place as the two aircraft carriers would have readied to moor at NATO's Rota navy base near Cadiz. The suicide motor boats would have departed from the nearby coast of Morocco, a country with a significant Muslim population.

Spain, because of its proximity to Morocco and Algeria, has experienced a significant influx of Muslim immigrants. According to authorities, there are now about 500,000 Muslim immigrants living in Spain. Experts estimate that, among these emigres, are about 100 al-Qaeda agents ready at any moment to hit a Spanish or American target.

Islam is poised to take back Spain. Imagine what it was like to be a non-Muslim in Medieval Spain. Dhimmitude at that time had to be more brutal than today. Imagine how hard it was for the Christians to slowly push them out. As much as we abhor the excesses of the Inquisition, we must realize that those Christians could not tolerate the thought of EVER going under the thumb of Islam again. As for the expulsion of other populations, we have to put ourselves in the place of the king and queen that were trying to firmly establish a Christian state where Christians could worship without fear of persecution. They were exhibiting the same intolerance as they were shown while dhimmis. It is sad and abhorrant, and something I can now understand.

terrorists do not need "reasons" to attack countries or rather the innocent civilians of countries.
No country in the world is Squeeky clean, they have all commited "dark" deeds in their recent histoires.
From the solomon islands to canada, reasons or even worse, "excuses" can easily be found .
To look for reasons is to excuse or diminish the horror of their deeds.
Are we attacked because we follow american policy ? NO
Are we attacked because we are not an islamic Nation? NO They blow up Muslims as well in muslim countries.
These terrorist feed on terror , they do not need reasons. The reasons are for us only.
THE REAL REASONS lie in the exploitation of the dark side of human nature by ISALMIC ZEALOTS.
Whilst JEsus preached peace and condemned killing, Mohammed was a "warrior" prophet who killed and pillaged and glorified the dark side of human nature.
His fanatic followers are exalted to follow in his footsteps evryday in Muslim schools throughout the world.
Islam encompasses the dark side of the Human Psyche whereas Christianity excludes and exports it to "Works of the Devil".
That is why Islam is such a huge threat to the western world/

I am a proud american, but i must say one thing:
on 9/11 we lost 3000 people and we were petrified and speachless.
Spain lost 200 people and millions took to the streets....
Is our nation slowly turning coward?
Are we more afraid of the PC-liberal-left wing activists than we are of the terrorists who are trying to anyhilate us?! Are we willing to stay forever silent and let them take over our nation?!
The national suicide that is currently taking place in America as well as in western Europe,Canada and Australia,is nobody`s but our fault.
And if we don`t wake up and make a stand,we deserve it.

C`mon Cathy,i need some help here.
If the men of this great country are too shy to make a stand, let women like us to show them how.
I just hope that the governments and the people of Europe will not give in to these murderous tactics and let the muslim fanatics dictate their internal and foreign politics.
What the muslim terrorist are trying here is "either you do what we tell you,or we`ll bomb your cities to dust".
If the europeans give in they will just lose their freedom "yes,we`ll do whatever you say,but please stop bombing us"...pathetic,unlikely.

Joey, you really are a troll. No one would post such garbage, day after day, without any support from other posters, unless they enjoyed being refuted. You don't even address the posted topics, you just make inflammatory statements. You need a new schtick, this one is boring.

Adela, you know I respect you alot. I gotta say though, the laws protect these people. I'd be all too happy to stomp some of these people, and if I knew I wouldn't go to jail for it, I certainly would.

However, more power to you if you can get something done, I'm behind you all the way. And Joseph, you should go wipe your mouth, I think you just had another accident.

I`m not saying that we should go out and kill muslims.
All i`m saying is that after 9/11 we should have taken to the streets, just like millions of spaniards did,and protest against the muslim cancer.
I`m also saying that we should identify once and for all that we are at war with ISLAM,a war that we did not seek but we must fight nevertheless, for our own national survival.
And again i`m saying that we should do everything in our power to expose the danger that the entire civilized world is now facing from Islam.
Write to your local and state officials, vote republican and stay alert!

Adela, you're a great person.....Don't let Joeyseph the Athiest get to you.

with all due respect, adela, the spanish people went into the streets to pay respect to the dead. this is how their culture deals with this kind of shock. americans are more private about such matters.

what is really important is the reaction by the society to the aggressors. americans, under the courageous leadership of george bush, started fighting back and continue unabated -- growing stronger and stronger. the spanish, under the courageous leadership of jose maria aznar, stood by us, and, as civilizational luck would have it, they are on the right side of the war and the debate. now, however, with their shift toward the socialists, they are aligning themselves with what is proving to be the wrong side of the debate and eventually the war. we should encourage our spanish friends to remain strong and fight back in the memory of their lost friends -- not capitulate to the desires of the enemy.
