From the Palestine Chronicle, with thanks to Alyssa Lappen:
Hamas said on Tuesday, March 9, that it would lay down a plan to run the Gaza Strip if Israeli occupation forces withdrew from it, stressing that this does not mean that the group will move from opposition to power-sharing.Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and his Palestinian counterpart Ahmed Qorei also moved closer to their long-awaited first meeting amid a flurry of diplomatic activity on Wednesday, March 10, aimed at restarting the Middle East peace process.
Hamas would join taking control of the strip in a "democratic" way "with or without elections", Hamas spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin said.
"The plan would be tabled before the Palestinian Authority and other factions for approval," Yassin said.
But he made clear that Hamas' participation in the administration depends on how comprehensive the Israeli pullout would be.
"It is a code of conduct all should abide by, and consultations are underway with Palestinian groups in this regard for no one to impose his will on us," Yassin said.
Yasser Abed Rabbo, a member of the Palestine Liberation Organization executive, said on Tuesday that an international force should be deployed in the Gaza Strip if Israel withdraws from it, in order to help the Palestinian authority establish its rule there.

What Israel SHOULD do is give the Gaza Strip back to the original owners - Egypt.

Posted by: Panos at March 14, 2004 11:49 AMI agree with Nathan....That is a hell hole over there. The Israelis just need to work on wiping them out. They have the Intel and the equipment.
Obviously, there will never be peace between them, so let them go at it and watch Israel kick their asses.

First of all Egypt never was the original owner of the Ghaza Strip. Ghaza was part of the Mandate of Palestine which, by the way included today's Jordan, in which Mandate the League of Nations in the 1920's had approved the creation of a Jewish state. Egypt occupied illegally the Ghaza Strip following the war of aggression it waged to the newly born State of Israel in May 1948. From there Egypt was sending the terrorist "Feddayins" to wage terror in the land of the State of Israel, killing, maiming and raping. In 1967 in the Six Days War, Israel took it from Egypt. During the peace negotiations with Egypt in 1978 Israel implored Egypt to take it back. Egypt, which by that time had had a taste of the so called "palestinians", sternly refused passing the hot potato on to the Israelis.
