Saudi Authorities Seize Car Packed with Explosives

There are still so many unanswered questions about Saudi involvement in the global jihad, it is hard not to view items like this with suspicion. From AP, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm:

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Saudi police on Saturday seized a car packed with explosives that they have been searching for since February, an Interior Ministry official said. In a statement carried by the state-run Saudi Press Agency, the unidentified official said the wanted GMC Suburban was found "packed with an amount of explosives."

The vehicle was secured, the statement added.

No further details were released, including where the car was found or if anyone was arrested. Officials were not immediately available for comment.

In February, the Interior Ministry used TV broadcasts to warn Saudis, particularly residents in the capital, Riyadh, that there was an imminent threat of a car bomb attack involving a GMC Suburban.

The car found Saturday was the same vehicle mentioned in the TV warning.

Saudi Arabia has launched a high profile crackdown on terrorists following several attacks inside this oil-rich Gulf state, including a May bombing in Riyadh that killed 26 people.

I may be way off the mark, but I don't believe the Saudis have discovered and defused anything that they didn't plant themselves.

They're a hoard of lying, sneaking arrogant asses that want us dead. I cringe every time Colon Powell makes reference to them as "our Saudi friends."

D.C., I disagree with with the first part of your post. Public Safety personnel (that would be the regular police, what passes for the secret police, and the National Guard here are taking casualties. Since the terrorists started targeting Saudis and foreign Muslims and destabilizing the government, the Royal Family has, out of self-interest, started to clamp down on their domestic extremists.

Having said that, I fear that it's too little, too late.

Should let them keep the car but tell them they have to park outside the Dome on the Rock.
