As far as I'm concerned, winning the "hearts and minds" of Arabs is a fool's errand, as it can't be done. As long as Arabs and Muslims refuse to kill off, or at least help kill off their own cancer (terrorists), there will never be any peace.

As far as I'm concerned, that entire region can starve. Here we are, paying over 2$ a gallon for gas, and have to have our tax dollars wasted on a package of several million illiterate ingrates. I think maybe the time has come for our Government to concern themselves more with recapturing American hearts and minds, not the hearts and minds of the Middle East, for their minds are already made up.

I would say Hurray about this "shocked and horrified" comment by the Hizbullah if I didn't know any better. I think the Islamists are becoming aware that the West has noted its silence when atrocities (true atrocities) are committed by Muslims and it is not looking good for them. Therefore, they are trying a new tactic. They will mouth the words they know we want to hear, while saying what they really feel in Arabic. At least, this is what many of them do in their countries - Arafat does it all the time.

Now, in order for me to believe this comment, I want to see it backed up with action. I would like to see them give up the radical Jihad against Israel and those they do not approve and adopt the type of Civil disobedience platforms of Ghandi and Martin Luther King. If they did/will do that, then maybe I will have cause to believe their words. In the meantime, I will wait - not holding my breath, mind you - to see if they really mean it.

Lets take just one look at one of the 'apologetic' responses on there, In relation to Christian, Jewish & other decent straight forward thinking humans having a problem with Muhammed (At the time in his fiftys) marrying a 6 year old;

Bob Owens is right, though; what you have to say is very interesting, but the caps make it really hard to read. It also looks as if you're yelling, which we know is not the case as soon as we read what you have to say.

Why not just use all lower case instead? As you point out, it really doesn't matter all that much if you don't capitalize "I" etc. It's the content that matters the most, so help us out and type in lower case!

You are correct. I have high standards, and I expect excellence in others. Granted, I might be asking a lot from pbee, but it was becuase I value the opinion pbee has to offer, and I didn't want to skip past the post becuase of potential eye strain. I want to be able to read it out of respect fo rthe thought put into composing the post.

Now, pbee has a physical limitation that make it hard to type and had chosen to use all caps. If you read the comment by cubed, you'd realize that I was not the only one who wanted to read pbee's opinion, and found the all lowercase treatment much easier to digest. Plus, its' very e.e. cummings, which gives cool points. ;-)

If we are to prove a superior society, we must show that western culture is superior on all levels, including philosophy and literature. In this particular venue of the written word, that is done with coherent, dispassionate, rational thought, supporting informed opinion with facts.

Those that come to this forum with poor composition and reasoning skills do not help our cuase. I'm sorry if you were offended by what I said to you on another post, but again, I just wanted a chance to evaluate you as an intelligent person with valid ideas. Whether you lack communication skills or just don't take the time to compose sentences properly, it doesn't help your argument.

If it is still in print, try to obtain a copy of "The Concise English Handbook" 3rd. Ed. by Kirkland, Dilworth et. al. A very good grammar and composition book, and I'm not just saying that because my name is in the acknowledgements.
