Big Four to pass on Bush speech

And it's 1 2 3 What are we fightin' for? Don't ask the major TV networks. (AP)

A speech in which Bush is expected to lay out details of the transfer of power to Iraq, and reassure Americans about that war, will not be covered by the major networks.

According to Hollywood Reporter:

The broadcast networks are not expected to carry President Bush's primetime speech tonight, in which he will lay out a "clear strategy" for the future of Iraq. The Bush administration has not requested the Big Four to air live the president's address to an audience at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Penn., scheduled for 8 p.m. EDT on the last Monday of the crucial for the network's ad rates May sweep period.

NBC, Fox and ABC will proceed with their scheduled programming for the 8-9 p.m. hour -- an episode of "Fear Factor," the finale of "The Swan" and the broadcast premiere of Oscar-winning "A Beautiful Mind," respectively. NBC and Fox's sibling cable channels, MSNBC and Fox News, will carry the speech.

Everybody loves Raymond, but nobody loves W.

should i join? shoud i report this to somebody?disrespectful?no harm done?

current odds are 10 to i that it will reach 1000 KIA by Sept 2004. Some wiseguy put the odds at 1000 to 1 at Sept 11, 2004.

This obviously shows that american media is not more interested in bush's ramblings about his zionist's crusade. Our iron fist in iraq showed the infidels they can not resist Islam.

Fox News is carrying the Presidents Address...

Did you read that...The President...Not W, not Dub...If you can not bring yourself to repect the holder of that office, give respecting that office a shot...

If we as American allow the liberals hate factions to malign the office of President because they are still stinging from the 2000 election, then we deserve the disrespect of the world.

Michael Moore epitomizes what is wrong with this country. This idea of any loser with a camera can become a Media darling simply by parroting the disgruntled harping of those that control the media, would be laughable, IF I were not watching it happen! Any idiot could have predicted the results of the Cannes awards. They are FRENCH after all, Right??

Let (Moore) revel in his dubious "win". History will relegate Him and a few of the major networks to the status of "Benedict Arnolds". They will be used as object lessons on how NOT to handle “personal vendettas” in a Democracy. Power mongering is not OK folks...BTW...Look up the definition of Documentary sometime...You might be surprised that the garbage Moore is peddling is NOT a documentary at all...It is a Leftist Propaganda piece and nothing more...

I will welcome "truth in media" laws being passed to insure News Programs are NOT Commentary Programs in disguise. Shows like Jay Leno ought to have to place a disclaimer in the opening credits stating we are Far Left entertainment, not necessarily reflecting truth, we are not bound by any code of honor or honesty. and film makers like Moore will have to label their garbage truthfully. Food Manufactures have to clearly state what is in their products and the News Media should be NO Different...

We could reach a crisis point with the "mainstream media", if they are not careful. The challenge is that much of the mainstream media is refusing to report on potential terror threats and other stories relevant to USA safety. When the public fully understands this, there is going to be a backlash. If at some point, they continue to simply not report stories they don't politically agree with, and there is (God Forbid) another attack, this will create a Public vs Mainstream Media situation. The mainstream media is continuing to paint themselves into this corner, which is why Jihad Watch and other sites are so necessary. Americans will have to insist on a "Media Reform Act" which finds ways to have some degree of FCC oversight that media do not simply become a complete mouthpiece for a single political campaign or party. That is NOT what freedom of speech is about, and why we have FCC regulation of the airwaves. In this new Media Reform Act, they will need to address "equal time" issues similar to earlier rules where during media editorials, there had to be allotted a certain amount of time for alternate view. For example, during the President's Saturday Radio broadcast, they then have a rebuttal broadcast by the alternate party. The single-sided political bent of much of the mainsteam media if fueling and creating a lot of the "diviseness" that they then deride. The Democrats, unfortunately, may get blamed for some of this. I don't think it is their fault; they are just taking advantage of a media predispoosition. An anti-media wave could translate into an anti-Democrat wave, and Dems should consider that. If there is another USA homeland attack, I think the anti-USA messages on the media will become very troublesome for them. I don't think public will care if it is the media predisposition or not, and some will start to think of the 4th estate as 5th columnists. The media especially needs to pray there is not another attack on USA homeland. People will tolerate this when they perceive that threat of terrorism is not immediate at home, but when that perception changes - look out.

With three of the major networks REFUSING to televise Bush's speech this evening shows quite CLEARLY the media bias against Bush.
Regardless of one's view of US involvement in Iraq, the President's message should be cover by all of the major networks. This is so disrespectful of this President - or any President!
So much for the so-called unbiased media!

Thanks for posting that highly amusing comment, Mahmoud. I always like to start the day off with a good joke.

As much as I am against Islam, all Islam, not just 'militant' or 'radical' Islam, and hence all Muslims, because they assent to the above Islam, I am not blindly pro-Bush.

If we are at war, let's really say so, and put the country on a war footing. But no, we are supposed to continue to go shopping... His domestic policies are a disaster.

Fox News is just as slanted the other way. I cannot listen to Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly. They seem to never let someone who might disagree with them to finish.

Posted by: Ethylred at May 24, 2004 9:08 AM

President Bush has said we're at war. I think the fear of mine and some others on the forum is that there is a rather large swath of the population that *refuses* to acknowledge we're at war. All the commissions and fingerpointing and shopping are distractions from the fact that a war has been declared upon us and anything we do as a whole that is not about immediately protecting this country and insuring its survival only contributes to the protracted length of the war and increases the odds that there will be another, even more unpleasant attack.

As possible distractions I include Mr. Kerry's very mean spirited, petty and discourteous comment that Mr. Bush fell from his bicycle because the training wheels came off. A big man, a mensch, would have said simply "I'm sorry he was hurt. I hope he'll be all right."

I can't even imagine a White House headed by Mr. Kerry and Teresa Heinz "I wish I never left Africa" Kerry.

What "damage" is that, Joseph? The setbacks to the Jihadists' plan for establishing the Caliphate?

Most of us see that as a POSITIVE thing.

Thanks Doc..I will check the sites out...

Now...

Dear Joseph,

I can hardly believe you would take what I said and turn it into "political" debate...Is what the Media and the left are doing to the President NOW justified by Bill Clintons past bad judgment??

Clinton brought his own troubles on...No one made him Dishonor his marriage vows OR Lie about it when he got busted!

My point is Joseph, The office of President deserves respect from the people and the news media.

When the News media harps on the Administration having no direction for Iraq, and then refuses to cover him addressing this very issue, I say Houston, WE Americans HAVE A PROBLEM. That problem is trusting leftist actors and highly polished newscasters to supply them with their information on current events and in many cases also supplying their opinions...

Joseph the strength of our Government rests on the population being American FIRST and a member of a political party SECOND...America is at WAR…..If we lose in Iraq it will be the Enemy WITHIN that defeated us. The Leftist Media.

President Bush is President of the UNITED States, DEAL WITH IT...

Talk is cheap...If you dispute George Bush is competent as or has the right to be President...Put your money where your mouth is .. File suit against him. Until then the media and left can just do what Peter Rabbits Mother advised...If you have nothing good to say...Say NOTHING...The constant attacks are smelling like Anti-American rhetoric.. The election is coming...and we shall see what comes of that...

PS To Ethelred....Do not bet on the economy getting Kerry elected...The economy is looking great! Unemployment down, New Jobs Up... What leftist media outlets are you getting your information from?? In fact anyone in this country with a stake in the money market would be crazy to unseat President Bush...

For all you Libs

AMMAN, Jordan - Al-Qaida plotted bomb and poison gas attacks against the U.S. Embassy and other targets in Jordan, suspects confessed in a videotape that aired Monday on Jordanian state television. A commentator said the plotters hoped to kill 80,000 people.
One of the alleged conspirators, Azmi al-Jayousi, said he was acting on the orders of Abu-Musab al-Zarqawi, a Jordanian wanted by the United States for allegedly organizing terrorists to fight U.S. troops in Iraq on behalf of al-Qaida. U.S. officials have offered a $10 million reward for his capture.
Al-Jayousi, identified as the head of a Jordanian terror cell, said he met al-Zarqawi in neighboring Iraq to plan the attacks.
The 20-minute taped program contained what were described as confessions by the suspects, who were arrested a month ago. Officials said four terror suspects believed linked to the conspiracy died in a shootout with police in Amman last week.
A commentator on the tape, who wasn't further identified, said the plotters targeted Jordan's secret service, its prime minister's office and the U.S. Embassy.
"At least 80,000 people would have been killed," the commentator said. Al-Zarqawi "is the terrorist" who plotted this operation."
Another Jordanian suspect, car mechanic Hussein Sharif Hussein, was shown saying al-Jayousi asked him to buy vehicles and modify them so that they could crash through gates and walls.
The bearded Hussein, looking anxious, said al-Jayousi told him the aim was "carrying out the first suicide attack to be launched by al-Qaida using chemicals ... striking at Jordan, its Hashemite (royal family) and launching war on the Crusaders and nonbelievers."
Claim of Responsibility
A Web site known for publicizing messages from Muslim extremists on Monday carried a purported claim of responsibility from al-Zarqawi for suicide boat attacks against Gulf oil terminals Saturday that killed three Americans and disabled Iraq's biggest terminal for more than 24 hours.
"I have pledged loyalty to Abu-Musab to fully be obedient and listen to him without discussion," al-Jayousi said in the Jordanian television segment. He said he first met al-Zarqawi in Afghanistan, where al-Jayousi said he studied explosives, "before Afghanistan fell." He said he later met al-Zarqawi in Iraq, but was not specific about when.
The videotape also showed still photographs of al-Jayousi and nine other suspects. The commentator said four had been killed in clashes with security forces. Three of the slain men were identified as Syrians. But Syria has denied Jordanian claims that militants involved in the plot entered Jordan from Syria.
Al-Jayousi said he received about $170,000 from al-Zarqawi to finance the plot and used part of it to buy 20 tons of chemicals. He did not identify the chemicals, but said they "were enough for all the operations in the Jordanian arena."
Images of what the commentator said were vans filled with blue jugs of chemical explosives were included in the broadcast.
Hussein, the car mechanic, said he met al-Jayousi in 1999 but did not clearly say when the terror plans were laid out.
Al-Jayousi said he and Hussein bought five vehicles, including a truck which was to be filled with explosives and used to attack the intelligence department. At least two vehicles had forged license plates and car registrations.
Citing unidentified technical experts, the commentator said al-Jayousi had made enough explosives to cause "two explosions - conventional and chemical - which were to have directly affected an area within a 2-kilometer (one mile) radius."
Al-Jayousi said he began making the explosives in a secret lab. Another detained terror suspect, Ahmad Samir, said that he worked in one of the labs for two months. "I never had the chance to leave it at all ... for the protection of the operation."
No trial date has been set in the case.
Airing suspects' confessions before their trial is unusual in Jordan. In 1998, six men accused of affiliation with a militant group confessed on television to planting a bomb that exploded outside an Amman hotel. Five years later, a court found them innocent.

This is what we are Fighting remember the Press has played down the sarin bomb that went off in Iraq we do not want that sh-t on our shores and one other thing the west nile viris was brought here in 1999 when billy boy was president.

Violence greets Clinton visit

Protesters set dozens of shops ablaze

Thousands of left-wing protesters chanting anti-American slogans have clashed with police and set dozens of shops ablaze at the start of a delayed state visit by US President Bill Clinton to Athens.

Riot police used teargas against thousands of left-wing protesters who had gathered in the central Syndagma Square outside the parliament in Athens, after a small group threatened to storm the building.

As the crowd fled through surrounding streets, fires were started in rubbish bins and some shop windows smashed.

Members of the media were injured in the violence
At least three people were reported to have blood on their heads.

The trouble, which the authorities blamed on anarchists, broke out almost exactly as Mr Clinton touched down at Athens airport.

His visit was originally scheduled for last weekend, but was delayed and shortened from three days to one following a series of anti-American protests.

Greek dislike of the US is based partly on Washington's perceived backing of Greece's traditional enemy Turkey. It was fuelled more recently by Nato's offensive against Yugoslavia.

The Greek Public Order Ministry has staged an unprecedented security operation to protect Mr Clinton, deploying some 7,000 police, backed by 400 FBI agents, across the city.

It has closed 12 miles of central Athens' usually-congested streets for the entire day, with bus routes altered for two days.

It banned protesters from rallying near the airport, anywhere along the seaside boulevard linking the airport to central Athens, and a triangular area housing the US embassy and other official buildings.

The security arrangements seemed to anger protesters further.

The Greek Communist Party and two other small left-wing opposition parties urged demonstrators to test police barriers and march to the US Embassy.

Rallies were also planned in other Greek cities, and more than 2,000 protesters burned American flags outside the US Consulate on the northern port of Thessaloniki.

Clinton 'a friend'

Speaking as he disembarked form Air Force One, Mr Clinton said he came to Greece as a "friend" of the country.

"I have come here as a 'philhellene' - a friend of Greece - and I look forward to experiencing that wonderful quality of Greek hospitality known to all the world," he said.

"We look to ancient Greece for inspiration, but we look to modern Greece for leadership and partnership."

Earlier, Mr Clinton had said people should be able to show their feelings.

"Greece is the world's oldest democracy. If people want to protest, they ought to have a chance to do it," he said at a press conference in Turkey.

He also reminded journalists that he had been trying to generate a peace initiative between Greece and Turkey, over the divided island of Cyprus.

"The Greek people and the government should be quite encouraged by this new Cyprus initiative, and by the fact that I found a receptive ear [in Turkey] on three separate occasions when I spoke ... about the necessity of the Turkish people and the Greeks being reconciled," he said.

Because of his new programme, President Clinton's experience of Athens will largely be confined to a high-rise hotel near the airport.

He, his wife Hillary and daughter Chelsea were due to meet Greek leaders behind a cordon of riot police, before travelling on to Florence.
