Mullah Krekar convicted of terrorism in Jordan

Of course, he isn't in Jordan. He's in Norway, where he has so far skillfully worked the laws to his advantage. From Aftenposten, with thanks to Filtrat:

A military tribunal in Jordan convicted 15 men - nine living and six presumed dead - as accessories to terrorism and connections to the al-Qaida network. A report from French news agency AFP named one of the convicted as Najmuddin Faraj Ahmad, who is better known as Mullah Krekar. Krekar and seven others were sentenced in absentia to 15 years of hard prison labor while Ahmad Mahmoud Saleh al-Riyati, named the ringleader of the 15-man terror cell and the only one physically present at the trial, had his term reduced to seven and a half years prison labor. ...

Norwegian prosecutors dismissed all charges against Mullah Krekar on Tuesday after deciding that they had insufficient reliable evidence to pursue his alleged links to terrorist activities. The prosecution cited the alleged torture of a potential witness against Krekar as undermining their case.

Classic case where we in the west protect the very people who wish us harm.

A perfect example is Abu Hamza who frequently preached his anti US/UK sentiments outside the Finsbury Park Mosque and almost certainly has links to terrorism and has clearly been inciting the hatred of so called 'British' Muslims towards our country.

Finally thanks to the Yanks for offering to take him off our hands maybe your justice system still has the ability to prosecute real criminals unlike our own ridiculous Justice system which seems to always favour the criminal. I guess we have the European Union to thank for that one.

He's a few choice quotes from the man himself Source http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/europe/05/27/uk.hamza.profile/

After the attacks on New York and Washington on September 11, 2001, Abu Hamza said the plane hijackers should be hailed as "martyrs" if it emerged they had carried out the attacks in the name of Islam.

On the topic of the 9/11 attack "I won't condone what has happened and I won't condemn it because I don't know who has done it yet.

"If somebody has done this just for earthly gain and political advancement, then obviously it is a cheap cause.

"But if it was done because people are desperate and their lives have been threatened, then that is a respectable cause which no one could dare to condemn.

"Then those people who carried out the attacks would be martyrs. Martyrdom is the highest form of jihad (holy war).

"If you do things for the cause of God, losing your life for it is the highest form of pure belief. This is in the Koran. America thinks that it comes first, but Muslims believe that a believer comes first."

"When you damage a people, and they have no home and no hope, and their babies and children are killed, then they retaliate.

"America took decisions to give arms to certain people and take arms away from others. What happened yesterday would be self-defense."

SO a real nice chap and so deserving of his British citizenship.....When his social benefits were stopped during the investigation of his links to terrorism he promptly turned around and took the British Government to Court!

Good luck prosecuting this pile of excrement I hope he rots in jail.

The Norwegian press indicated this may be a precursor to having Krekar deported. Here is a link to an article in today's Aftenposten:

http://www.aftenposten.no/english/local/article811696.ece

Some comments from the article (including a poll indicating a majority of Norwegians want him deported even if it means changing the law):

"Norwegian authorities are now evaluating whether his trips back to Iraq violated the terms of his asylum status.

The Norwegian government has expressed a desire to send Krekar out of the country, but has been held up by Norway's own laws regarding deportation. Norwegian prosecutors dropped terrorist-related charges against him earlier this week, but a court in Jordan convicted him of terrorist activity on Wednesday.

In the new poll, conducted by research firm InFact for newspaper VG, 32.3 percent of those questioned contend Norwegian authorities should work around the law to send Krekar out of the country.

Another 25.2 percent believe the law should be changed so that it will be possible to send Krekar out."
