The Faisal Gill Affair

More on the deleterious influence of Grover Norquist on anti-terror policy. From Frank Gaffney in FrontPage mag: "Why is an associate of groups sympathetic to radical Islamists a policy director at the Department for Homeland Security?"

It now appears that Mr. Norquist’s help has extended beyond facilitating high-level access and influence for various Muslim-American and Arab-American entities with troubling ties to, or at least sympathy for, radical Islamofascists – and even terrorists. Reportedly, his association also helped someone affiliated with such a group to gain a political appointment to an exceedingly sensitive post: “policy director” of the Department of Homeland Security’s Information Analysis and Infrastructure Protection division.

As the title of this position suggests, its occupant would have access to highly sensitive information about the vulnerability of, among other things, U.S. ports, transportation infrastructure, chemical plants, oil refineries and nuclear power plants to terrorist attack. The incumbent is a 32-year-old lawyer named Faisal Gill.

It is unclear what qualified Mr. Gill for such a post. In response to press inquiries, a DHS spokeswoman declined to describe his qualifications or background so it is not known whether he has any prior experience with intelligence or, for that matter, with security policy.

What is known is that Gill’s political patrons include Grover Norquist, who was listed by Gill as a reference on employment documents. After all, Gill had been a spokesman for the Taxpayers Alliance of Prince William County, Virginia, which is affiliated with Norquist’s group, Americans for Tax Reform. Gill had also worked in 2001 as director of government affairs for the Islamic Free Market Institute (also known as the Islamic Institute), whose founding president was Grover Norquist.

Interestingly, news articles published after September 11 described Gill in another capacity – as a spokesman for the controversial American Muslim Council (AMC). The AMC was founded and controlled by a prominent Islamist activist, Abdurahman Alamoudi. Alamoudi was indicted last October on terrorism-related money laundering charges. While in jail awaiting trial, he has reportedly engaged in plea-bargaining by confessing to participating in a Libyan plot to murder the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia.

For some reason, Gill is reported to have failed to list his work with the AMC on his “Standard Form 86” national security questionnaire. This is a potential felony violation of the full and truthful disclosure required by law of all applying for clearances.

According to two recently published articles in Salon.com, the FBI raised concerns last March about Gill’s non-disclosure of his ties to Alamoudi’s AMC. At the time, he was reportedly briefly removed from his position at DHS.

Curiously, however, Gill is said to have been reinstated within days. According to a DHS spokesman, the Department had conducted a "thorough investigation" that found Gill "exceeded all requirements" for his job.

Fortunately, on 23 June, after news reports revealed Gill’s omission, attendant suspension and subsequent reinstatement, the Homeland Security’s Inspector General, Clark Kent Ervin, announced that he would be launching an inquiry into how Gill received a security clearance, despite the omission. For some reason, though, the IG’s report is said to require as much as six-months to complete.

I smell rezareza666 coming to whine about racism and discrimination against those poor, innocent muslims. Let's all shed a tear.

Will the investigation include Grover Norquist's activities relating to Islam and Muslims whom he has helped -- and any possible help that he, in turn, has received?

Posted by: Hugh [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 19, 2004 12:55 PM

Yes, boys and girls, Islam now has friends in very high places in the U.S. government, and has penetrated and, perhaps even runs some agencies, or exerts what's called "undue influence."

I'm with Hugh, the investigation should include good ol' Grover Norquist as well.

You know, it all goes back to something my pappy once told me:

"Never trust anyone named after a Muppet."

Sound advice, indeed. ;-)

Got this in an email today, not sure if it is all fact.
--------------------------------------------------
VERY,VERY scary. I've heard this before over the radio!! Beryl Johnson

> >Subject: Fw: ( Beware of Mrs. John Kerry]

> > > BEWARE OF MRS. JOHN KERRY
Following is a brief background on Mrs. John Kerry . She hates being called that, by the way:
Maria Teresa Thiersten Simoes-Ferreira Heinz Kerry. Married Senator Kerry in 1995. She only took his name eighteen months ago and she is an
"interesting" paradox of conflicts.
If you thought John Kerry was scary, he doesn't
hold a candle to his wife Maria Teresa Thiersten Simoes-Ferreira Heinz Kerry was born in Mozambique, the daughter of a Portuguese physician, was educated in Switzerland and South Africa. Fluent in five languages, she was working as a United Nations interpreter in Geneva in the mid-60's when she met a "handsome" young American, H. John Heinz, III, who worked at a bank in Geneva. He told her his family was "in the food business."
They were married in 1966 and returned to
Pittsburgh where his family ran the giant H. J. Heinz food company. He was elected to the US House of Representatives in 1971, and in 1976 he was elected
to the first of three terms in the United States
A Republican, he wrote a burning diatribe against
some of the causes backed by young House member John Kerry.)
Several years later, in 1991, he was killed when his plane collided with a Sun Oil Company
helicopter over a Philadelphia suburb. The senator, his pilot and copilot, and both of Sun's helicopter pilots were killed. He was survived by his wife, Teresa, and their three young sons.
Four years later, having inherited Heinz's $500 million fortune, she married Senator John Forbes Kerry, the liberal then-junior senator from Massachusetts. She became a registered Democrat and the process of her radicalization was set in motion. Heinz Kerry is not shy about telling people that she required Kerry to sign a prenuptial agreement before they were married. John Kerry may not have check writing privileges on the Heinz catsup and pickle fortune, but he is certainly a willing and uncomplaining beneficiary of it.
A lot of hard-earned money, made through many years of hawking catsup, mustard, and pickles has fallen into the hands of two people who despise successful entrepreneurship and who believe in the confiscatory redistribution of wealth.
So how does Mrs. Heinz Kerry spend John Heinz's money?
Just one example: According to the G2 Bulletin, an online intelligence newsletter of WorldNetDaily, in the years between 1995-2001 she gave more than $4 million to an organization called the Tides Foundation. And what does the Tides Foundation do with John Heinz's money?
They support numerous antiwar groups, including Ramsey Clark's International Action Center. Clark has offered to defend Saddam Hussein when he's tried. They support the Democratic Justice Fund, a joint venture of the Tides Foundation and billionaire hate-monger George Soros. The Democratic Justice Fund seeks to ease restrictions on Muslim immigration from "terrorist" states.
They support the Council for American-Islamic Relations, whose leaders are known to have close
ties to the terrorist group, Hamas.
They support the National Lawyers Guild, organized
as a communist front during the Cold War era. One of
their attorneys, Lynne Stewart, has been arrested for
helping a client, Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman,
communicate with terror cells in Egypt. He is the
convicted mastermind of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.
They support the "Barrio Warriors," a radical
Hispanic group whose primary goal is to return all
of Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Texas to
Mexico.
These are but a few of the radical groups that
benefit, through the anonymity provided by the Tides

Foundation, from the generosity of our would-be
first
lady, the wealthy widow of Republican senator John
Heinz, and now the wife of the Democratic senator
who
aspires to be the 44th President of the United
States.
Aiding and supporting our enemies is not good for
America, regardless of your political views.
If voters will open their eyes, educate themselves
and see the real Teresa Heinz Kerry, they will not
> appreciate her position as ultra rich fairy
godmother
of the radical left. They will not want to imagine

her laying her head on a pillow each night inches
away
from the President of the United States.
Hopefully they love this country enough to decide
that the only way these two will ever be allowed
into
the White House is with an engraved invitation in
hand.
Instead of deleting this, pass it on. Let
everyone know these people are unfit to represent
this
great nation. The uninformed will never hear the
truth from the press, who wants Kerry elected!
Those who buy the Kerry facade, beware what you vote for - - - you may regret that you got it!
In God We Trust

Bonzi,

Excellent post! Have you ever heard this twit speak, she sounds as if she has some form of brain damage.

What an embarrassment it would be if this babbling idiot becomes First Lady, not to mention the disaster that would befall the USA if the liberal democrats occupy the WhiteHouse.

Oh Mr. Spencer?

Isn't it strange that you wrote an article about Grover Norquist, a conservative republican, and then some lib'rul bashers write in complaining about Theresa Kerry? Of course, the first line says:

Got this in an email today, not sure if it is all fact.

But that sure didn't stop you from posting it on the comments page of an article about Grover Norquist. But this is to be expected from the mindset belonging to someone that debates thusly:

Lib'rul: Laura Bush killed her fiance in a car wreck.

Bonzi: CHAPPAQUIDICK! CHAPPAQUIDICK! CHAPPAQUIDICK!

Lib'rul: Perhaps if Kerry is elected, he will target Bin Laden instead of Saddam Hussein.

Bonzi: TRAITOR! LIB'RUL! WHY DO YOU HATE AMERICA?

Lib'rul: Mike Moore critcized the hell out of Saudi Arabia in Farenheit 9-11.

Bonzi: WHAT ARE YOU? SOME KIND OF TERRORIST? YOU ARE EITHER A CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIAN REPUBLICAN OR YOU ARE A TERRORIST FAG THAT HATES AMERICA.

Maybe one day the lib'rul haters will realize that no matter what they may "think" (feel), lib'ruls are not Islamic, and Muslims are not liberal.

Perhaps Grover is keen on the fact that Muslims are conservative, and is merely seeking to build some bridges with his like-minded thinkers in Saudi, Iran, and Pakistan.

You know, I will be happy if Bush wins, and I will be happy if Kerry wins. Neither one of them will lay down and play dead for the jihadis. And the men that really make the decisions, the admirals and generals at the Pentagon, they will still be there no matter who takes the Whitehouse.

Walker Colt: did you get all of this?

Of course, the beauty of it is that no matter what befalls this great nation, "certain elements" will use it to their political advantage.

If America isn't attacked by the election:
"Vote for W! He's protected us!"

If America is attacked by the election:
"Vote for W! The terrorists are trying to make you vote for Kerry!"

If Bush wins and America is attacked after the election:
"See? The terrrorists are mad because the guys what's gonna whup'em got re-elected!"

If Kerry wins and America is attacked after the election:
"See? I told you the terrorists weren't afraid of Hanoi John! Impeach Kerry! Impeach Kerry!"

Bonzi, you said He is the
convicted mastermind of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

But I thought that "Clinton did nothing?" How is it that the terrorist was convicted?

Well, I guess its fun to pretend, isn't it? Now go take on the day. (.) (.)

What an embarrassment it would be if this babbling idiot becomes First Lady, not to mention the disaster that would befall the USA if the liberal democrats occupy the WhiteHouse.

Not at all like the intelligent, articulate, genteel squatters there today, eh?

Yes, great disaster... like the disaster that befell us between 93 and 2000, huh? Y2K terrorist attacks were thwarted, the Dow Jones tripled, unemployment was down to 4.2%, the deficit was a trillion-dollar surplus, the rich got richer, the poor got richer, and then Bush came along and "fixed" it all.

Yes, I know it would embarass YOU, but don't worry. If you want to live in a conservative society, you could always move to Pakistan, Iran, or Saudi (you might want to leave your silly little bibles here.)

Posted by: kj [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 20, 2004 3:33 PM

Colt Walker, can you see now for yourself what I was refering to the other day? Same old Limbaughesque sputum as usual. We try to have an adult conversation about Jihad and it turns into a petulant little bashfest for the Nazis assigned to this site by the freeps/RNC/KKK,
where the comments for EVERY subject become a place to whine about Kerry, Theresa, Hitlery, Clinton, Al Sharpton, Howard Dean, and Carter. Of course, the focus until Noveber will be Kerry, Theresa, and Edwards. Then it will be back to Hitlery and Slick Willie if Kerry loses, and if Kerry wins... the impeachment process will begin again.

Hey, Son of Islam? Why don't you bring up the fact that, as Tucker Carlson (R-NOI) said, "Four years ago Edwards was a trial lawyer specializing in jacuzzi cases"? Or maybe you can call me a "girlie man." Ha ha.

As the Muslims have their Jews, the phony "Peace and Justice" hippies and the United Nothing have Israel, and in a similar manner, "certain people" have the lib'ruls.

Posted by: kj [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 20, 2004 3:43 PM

Will the investigation include Grover Norquist's activities relating to Islam and Muslims whom he has helped -- and any possible help that he, in turn, has received?

Only if Mike Moore investigates him, or if he changes political parties.

I think a more pertinent question would be to ask the same question of a certain sitting president.

Evening Keith!

I wasn't going to post any more today... the Best Man of our wedding is arriving in about 20 minutes and I am busy getting things ready for the weekend.

But I couldn't help but notice you sneak in and post to a thread that no one has even Looked at in 24 hours (Save for me, who is catching up on things before signing off). I guess you'll be sticking to safe ground (that is, Not read anymore).

Say, have you heard about Sandy Burglar? Maybe Moore should check him out.

See ya 'round!

One always looks for evidence of flexibility. George Bush, Sr. conducted a foreign policy that was deeply devoted to Saudi interests; his advisers Scowcroft and James Baker were motivated by both this, and by anti-Israel animus (in Baker's case, it goes back to his undergraduate thesis at Princeton, in which he argued that the state of Israel should never have been permitted to come into existence). But his son, though he has foolishly continued to treat Prince Bandar not as a sly spokesman for an essentially malevolent regime, but as a friend, and crazily invited Abdullah for that deed-to-the-ranch treatment in Crawford, one suspects that Bush understands, despite some excruciating rhetoric, that Saudi Arabia is not as it was depicted by Scowcroft, Baker, all those ex-diplomats and ex-C.I.A. men who became hirelings of the Al-Saud. Surely that change is worth noticing.

As for the intolerable Michael Moore, as phony a man of the people as Pat Buchanan (both have a sincere and deep affection for money), before you recommend him for anything, ponder this excerpt, noted by Cathy Young (of Reason Magazine, not of the Aryan Brotherhood, please note) in "Dude, Where's My Country":

"Of course many Israeli children have died too, at the hands of the Palestinians. You would think that would make every Israeli want to wipe out the Arab world, but the average Israeli does not have that resopnse. Why? Because intheir hearts, they know they are wrong, and they know they would be doing just what the Palestinians are doing if the sandal were on the other foot."

The Israelis behave decently, despite every conceivable provocation, in Moore's twisted logic, precisely because "they know they are in the wrong." And the Palestinians (I mean of course "Palestinians") murder everyone they can, schoolgirls, babies, grandmothers, and the occasional Israeli soldier, dismembered to the hysterical shrieks of delight of assembled crowds because, presumably, they know that they are in the right. Think about the man capable of writing and thinking that, one forgettable but never-to-be-forgiven Michael Moore.

And think about anyone willing to defend him, willing to applaud him, willing to lionize him, willing to spread his gospel, for even a minute, this bloated Bluto, this phony bezonian, this Beavis-and-Butthead character who is, of course, a brother under the skin of Pat Buchanan. They deserve each other. To consider oneself a liberal does not mean one must descend, rapidly, brachistochronically, to the level of Michael Moore. What would Senator Henry Jackson think, what would Fiorello La Guardia think, what would -- oh, c'mon, you know exactly the kind of people I'm talking about -- what would they think of Michael Moore?
