Rumsfeld: Iran aids rebels

No surpise here, but it's good to see Rumsfeld saying it. From the Washington Times, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm:

Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld charged yesterday that Iran is fueling the deadly insurgency in Iraq with money and fighters.

But, in an interview with editors and reporters of The Washington Times, Mr. Rumsfeld acknowledged that the United States has limited options because other nations are "not willing" to join in pressuring Iran, which has shown behavior that Mr. Rumsfeld said is "not part of the civilized world."

The defense secretary, a main architect of President Bush's strategy of attacking Islamic terrorists worldwide, declared of the insurgency in Iraq, "They're losing."

I don't believe that the insurgents in Iran are losing. I think they're winning, judging by the casualties which they are inflicting daily. Let's also ask the Iraqi christians fleeing to Syria, if the muslim insurgents are losing.

I always knew that if Iraq was invaded, then Iran would supply insurgents across the border to fight. Why didn't anyone else realise that?

With the Bush admin' all for pre-emptive strikes, a blitzing of Iran is long overdue.
The fact that Iran is pouring "insurgents" (another media euphemism for terrorists-- ahem-- sorry,freedom fighters) is an act of war against the US military.

Hulega Kahn's "honey-pot" theory may well be correct, but now we are trying to set the ball rolling for the new iraqi democratic(?) government, maybe they should be focusing on letting Iraq get fixed up, and take the battle to another arena (Iran).
Just as easy for arabic-jihadists, and indeed Pakistani, and Afghan jihadists to get to, wothout a doubt, but a smart move and another hugh progressive step in this war on terror.

Hurt them before they hurt anyone else.

I think we'll have to deal with Iran sooner or later. Between aiding the insurgency and building their own nuclear capability, they're begging for it.

I don't expect Bush to take any big risks before the November election, so I don't anticipate any widenening of the War on Terror in the near future. If Bush is reelected however, then I see Bush taking some form of action against Iran during his second term. It won't look like Iraq, but it'll probably consist of surgical strikes on their nuclear facilities and stepped up efforts to work with moderates within Iran who want regime change.

If Kerry is elected, then Iran will breathe a sigh of relief because they know he won't strike their nuclear facilities without the UN and our European "allies" on board--meaning that Iran will have all the time they need to process weapons-grade uranium.

Well, perhaps the Russians and ourselves can team up to nutcracker Iran. Clearly, that country is a threat that has to be destroyed, one way or another. It would be best to do so before Iran gets nuclear weapons, but if we have to join with the Russians in a nuclear preemptive strike against Iran that would be ok too.

i don't usually cut & paste, but the following describes an interesting vote in the house of reps a few months back:

(2) calls upon all State Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), including the United States, to use all appropriate means to deter, dissuade, and prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, including ending all nuclear and other cooperation with Iran (including the provision of dual use items), until Iran fully implements the Additional Protocol between Iran and the IAEA for the application of safeguards;
