NEW YORK - The former director of a basement mosque that prosecutors described as a "cesspool of fraud" has been convicted of defrauding the government by processing hundreds of bogus applications for people hoping to enter or stay in the United States.Muhammad Khalil, 63, was convicted Wednesday of conspiring to submit the applications on behalf of aliens under the federal Religious Worker Program and to obtain Social Security cards in false names.
He could face more than five years in prison at his sentencing Jan. 18, prosecutors said Thursday.
In closing arguments, Assistant U.S. Attorney David Burns told a jury that Khalil's "unbridled greed generated ... hundreds of thousands of dollars off the backs of aliens desperate to stay in this country any way they could."
Prosecutors allege Khalil's mosque, run out of his variety store's basement, was actually a roach-infested front that rarely saw worshippers.
Defense lawyer Roger Stavis insisted in his closing that Khalil operated a legitimate mosque and that prosecutors relied on a "rogues gallery of witnesses" to discredit him.
"These people are lying," he said.
Of course. Do they ever tell the truth?

Last summer in Canada an Islamic org. defended
19 bogus students that used forged papers and a defuncted "Mail-order" school to gain entry into the Country.
With all the usual screams of Racism and Islamophobia the media failed to research the
entire history of the arrests for the 19 illegals.
Seems they were all Pakistani Muslim males around the same age,all had used false ID on the forged
documents from Pakistan and all failed to report to officials when the students Visa's expired.
But of course why should the facts interfer with
CAIR and their ilk from defending oppressed Muslims that broke the law prior to Ramadan.
CAIR and the www.muslimcanadiancongress.org overlooked the fact that two of these peace loving Muslim males took flying lessons that flew
by a Nuclear Plant by the lake.
Now,lets see if I got this right,after 9/11 Arabs and Muslims gloated over the fact that
the Hijackers were allowed to roam free in the USA
because the INS and FBI didn't round them up on
Visa charges. They blamed the West for the attack
and were quite smug,now that 19 Muslim males in Canada are using forged papers and staying in the country illegally get detained until they prove who they are,the same whiners are upset over the arrests on the grounds of racism and human rights violations.
I wish Muslims would please take one side of the arguement,either they want American's to protect their land,or they want terrorist to
freely murder people in the name of Islam and
then blame the victims.
Maybe it will take Mosques being bombed by the Islamist in America for the Muslims to warm up to profiling.

Just hope this muslim doesn't write a islamist version of Mein Kampf while in prison. I wonder what his parole board meeting will be like.

I forgot to give the update,to date,about 16
of the 19 were legally deported under U.N. definitions of illegal aliens and non-refugee's.
The remaining have Public paid lawyers claiming refugee-status for them since they may suffer
harm if returned to Pakistan. The deportations
haven't stopped Muslim groups from starting a annual protest on the date they were rounded up
and detained,there's a website and T-shirts to
add to this injustice against those innocent 19
illegals that had forged documents and were guilty of being Muslims.

A few days ago someone posted a retort that read "It's Islam, Stupid!" Or maybe it was "It's the Koran, Stupid!" Close enough.
Anyway, at the right place and time, they would make great fund raisers for someone!
