Iran ready to confront U.S. militarily

From UPI, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm:

Beirut, Lebanon, Sep. 27 (UPI) -- Maj. Gen. Rahim Safawi, commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, said Monday his country is ready to confront U.S. pressure, including military. In an interview with the London-based Saudi daily al-Hayat, monitored in Beirut, Safawi said although the United States is deeply involved in Iraq, it is expected to increase its political and diplomatic pressure on Iran in the next two months.

"We advise the Americans and the Europeans to beware of Iran regional weight and capacity and to recognize its rights and importance in the region," Safawi said.

"We are ready to confront any pressures against us, be they political, economic and even military."

Interesting . . . Safawi didn't include Israel in this statement.

Hmmmmm . . . I wonder if this has anything to do with it?

I think that the Iranians should realise that if they think that what the US/UK/Coalition is doing in Iraq is "War" then they'd better think again.

If the US / UK were to take the "gloves off" there would be nothing left but smoke and ashes.

Our forces are over there with both hands tied behind their backs - it's not "war" in the sense of one nation(or more)against another in a survival situation, because if it was, do you think that Sadr City, Falluja, Najaf, and all the 'sacred' mosques where they can manage to hide truck loads of munitions, would still be standing? I think not.

If I were Iranian, I'd be slightly more hesitant before picking a fight, because if the "gloves" come off, it will be over before it's begun.

With leftist liberals swamping both countries, it is unlikely that the "gloves" will ever come off.

Posted by: callistos [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 27, 2004 11:23 AM

It's not just the liberals in these countries. This Iranian blogs about how much he hates the US and the Jews yet he lives in Canada! Scary...

PS this is what the American Women are saying?

I have a ? Why do the Mulsums of England and Nasseem tell us over and over again about the #s like 1.8 million in England? 1.2 billion around the world?

Their math is no good to my count! Tell you my thinking! Let’s take England first pop of London last time I ck’ed was over 10 million? And the pop of all of England was over 50,000,000 so the math would have to be saying that all the Brits are cowards and I can’t get my head around that?

Next lets look at what is the # we here over and over again 1.2 billion? Well in this world that is a small # there are over 1 billion in China alone? And most are third world countries?

Lets look at the USA what are they trying to tell us that there are 5 million [more like 2 mil] but lets give them that there are how many hunters in the USA over 50 million and those are just the ones who have registered to hunt ? Now looking at the # coming out of Iraq again hate to do this BUT these are their best trained how many are the Islamic sites saying have been killed 30,000 to our 1100? So when I do the Math it don’t look to good for the terrorist mulsums?

BUT once again ARM your Citizens in England!!

WE WILL WIN THIS FIGHT never dought it!!

When I see old footage of WW2 and all that was rebuilt ? this is nothing!!

Another thing looking back in history was Abe not a real President because the southern states did and were not allowed to VOTE?

PSS if I'm not enough here is another?

Simply put, we despise you.
Never in my life have I been overwhelmed by the desire to destroy another human that I wept in frustration. We will conspire against you, infiltrate your mosques and when we are hit again feel reassured that it won't be understanding we are reaching for.

Iran's got it all wrong.

The US probably has learnt its lessons from Iraq and isn't overeager to create another potential quagmire (one 4 times bigger than Iraq no less).

The US only needs to bomb the balls outta the Iranian nuke facilities, the pathetic excuse called the revolutionary air force and whatever shows up of Iranian armoured divisions. Estimate a munitions budget below $1bn and iran will've ceased to be a significant military threat to the free world.

To make the world really safe, all islamist nukes ought to be defanged. Let Pakistan
(puke-istan?) be next on the list.

Shared thinking all. This site is beginning to restore my faith in my fellow countrymen [and women]at a time I was starting to think that the country had sunk so far into ambivalence that there was no hope of recovery. I now see that many of my fellow Americans are leading the charge in spreading the word and I think a new day is beginning to dawn in the USA...Onward Christian Soldiers!

ROFLMAO.... LOL..LOL...LOL!!!

Oh yeah, Iran's ready to take on the US militarily.... goddam, I might have to vote for Bush after all. It would almost be worth it to see the Mullahs pulled from their ratholes by secular Iranians and lynched. I think we could probably see an overthrow of the Islamic Republicans if we just pumped about 50-60 Billion dollars into the resistance there... too bad we don't have that kind of money just laying around. After all, we HAVE to make sure the people of Iraq have new schools and running water.

Recall that Iran's "technology" of dealing with landmines was to recruit thousands and thousands of men too old -- and boys too young -- to really fight... they would organize into "human waves" that would just run straight through the minefields, detonating them as they went.... then the real soldiers (probably 90% draftees) would slosh through what was left to "do the fighting." That was only 15-20 years ago.

RW... Catharine hates everyone, and as you can probably tell by her "writing style" has some serious issues.

Wow... everyone check out that link posted by BigV... it's pretty sobering. Hopefully not true, but if it is, Iran will become a parking lot.

I know that someone in Iran reads this post, so I suggest that they recall Hiroshima before they attack an Aircraft Carrier. If Bush or Kerry doesn't have the sand (or in the case of Bush, is bought off) to not retailate in an EXTREME way, America will elect someone that will.

And if Iran doesn't want to see itself cut in half with the good half given to Israel, they won't destroy Israel, because that is exactly what would happen. If the UN wouldn't see to it (as they undoubtedly would if Israel was nuked) then America will see to it... not to mention that little army that Israel maintains.

Keith

Well we didn't have the money to save England in WW2 but we did it any way? We didn't have the money to open the shipping lanes in the Med in the 1800s but we did it any way?

Hell you Know money don't really matter when there is a good fight to get in to!!

Iran, you were once something. You had your own culture, you own language, your own rich history of excellent advances in science, art, literature; your own religion; your own system of writing, astronomy and astrology. Persia was something special, neck-and-neck in every technology with the West.

And you've traded it all away for the religion of Saudi Arabia and the culture of the Wahhabis. Like the Taliban you are made to love, you've destroyed your own history in the name of intolerance and revisionism; you've driven out your best thinkers, your most talented artists, and your most gifted scientists. You don't believe in astrology and you despise astronomy.

You have accepted into your culture a new one that fixates on blaming Jews for everything, keeping women enslaved, keeping the people poor and miserable, while you ever try enforcing Sharia a little more stridently. The public lashings at the drop of a hat (literally), the battery acid in the face of unvieled women, the honor killings, the death sentences handed down by religious prosecutors who also serve as judges... the whole ugly, unspiritual messs, is not helping you or your people. It helps a handful of Mullahs that live in opulent splendor with homes and furnishings like Liberace. You are kept down with the rule of an Iron Fist; you are continuously told you are suffering because of the Zionists, or the Great Satan, or some other imaginary enemy.

Listen to your youth, your college students, and reject the religious insanity that has defined you since 1979.

RW,kj,...I've only been reading this site and comments for a short time and I have yet to detect anything in catherine's comments except for a strong disdain for those she and for that matter I, consider an enemy we are at war with. She cuts through the scholarly and intellectual bullshit and makes her point in clear and concise understanding.Too many posting here seem to want to make impressions with long rambling intellectual dissertations.

In addition, the article states,
Kurtis Cooper, a U.S. State Department spokesman, declared: "Although Iran has repeatedly asserted that its nuclear program is exclusively for peaceful purposes and its pursuit of uranium enrichment technologies are to fuel a planned civilian power program, Iran will have no peaceful use for enriched uranium for many, many years. ... The rush to convert 37 tons of yellowcake into feed-stock for centrifuge enrichment has no peaceful justification. ... Thirty-seven tons of yellowcake is not a test. It is a production run."

Is this the Iranian way of proclaiming jihad on the Americans and the Europeans?

"We advise the Americans and the Europeans to beware of Iran regional weight and capacity and to recognize its rights and importance in the region," Safawi said.

"We are ready to confront any pressures against us, be they political, economic and even military."

Many people left Iran in the 80's. They said "those people running the country are "nuts".
I now understand.

Wouldn't it be ironic if the Iranians had a "sunburn" missile that misfired in Iran?
