Radical Muslims relax the traditional Islamic ban on music long enough to get a few recruits. From Reuters, with thanks to Twostellas:
By Jahabar Sadiq KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Malaysia's Muslim opposition, which says musical concerts encourage a hedonistic lifestyle, held one itself at the weekend, aiming to undo its party-pooper image and lure youths who rejected it in a recent election. Nearly 2,000 people sat sedately and watched an all-male line-up perform pop, blues and Islamic music that preached family values and worship mixed with poetry and parable recitals at the concert organized by Parti Islam SeMalaysia (PAS)."We want to show that there is entertainment in Islam," said Muhaimin Sulam, organizer of the PAS "Alternative Entertainment" concert in capital Kuala Lumpur late on Saturday.
But is there really? In Islam Unveiled I quote Khomeini:
Allah did not create man so that he could have fun. The aim of creation was for mankind to be put to the test through hardship and prayer. An Islamic regime must be serious in every field. There are no jokes in Islam. There is no humor in Islam. There is no fun in Islam. There can be no fun and joy in whatever is serious.

Wow.
Taqiyya and kitman mutating into new and hilarious forms. So now the message is 'islam is fun, too'. Yeah, after pandering to the basest of human impulses and letting free reign to the lowest common denominator in morlaity, islam still needs to prove it is 'fun'? How about a reality show featuring competitng jihadis palnnning another school attack? There, you have media's holy grail - guarenteed audience interest... Sick!
Wish it were as much fun exposing these schmucks as it is making up lies about islam's tolerance peaceableness and fun-factor.

This is nothing new. Music, dance, and theatre have always been part of politics, especially among the illiterate. Think of nineteenth century Mexican politics. There were several songs that are still popular, such as "La Cucaracha," a song of one of the Mexican "revolutions."
In parts of the world political parties and movements have their own songs that promote their agenda. Plays were written to back or attack one side or the other. Even in Ancient Greece and Rome, plays promoted or derided particular politicians and were often subject to censorship. Even Shakespeare's plays were subject to censorship to prevent writing on themes that would "inflame the masses against the throne," and we are all aware of how the Nazis and Soviets used theatre, music and art to promote the revolutionary agenda.
Movies, rap, and other more current forms are entertaining and informing the masses along political lines. Even the U.S. is not immune to this pressure. Think of Michael Moore's "Farenheit 9-11," and the present New York play, "Assassins," as well as Hollywood films that are produced to promote one agenda or another.

Is there anything in Muslim prayer like in Christianity?
For Christians, whole books have been written on the contemplative and meditative aspects of prayer. The power of prayer not just for intercession, but as balm for the soul, apart from the worship aspects of prayer.
Thanks interstrd and Elephant for the info. I find it hard to credit that muslim prayer is so meagre in concept.

That quote from Kho-meanie is such a giveaway! I think I'll have it printed on cards and hand them out to friends and acquaintances.
Any quote where the Islamo-Fascists condemn themselves out of their own mouths is a powerful weapon. And you can't be dismissed as a racist (or whatever) because all you're doing is distributing what the guy actually said and leaving it to the recepient to decide whether this is a good thing or not.
I would love to see a range of postcards of choice quotes from Khomeini and from Koranic texts. I'm sure these would be a more effective means of revealing Islam to ordinary people than any number of books, articles and lectures.
Posters might be a good idea too!

Fun? I just don't get the sense that anything in Islam is fun. Unless you think death and dismemberment is fun. But then their "prophet" knew what he was doing. Can't have his followers having fun since it'll take them away from all that wonderful raping and pillaging. And that was the whole point of his "religion". To use the useful idiots for his own nefarious purposes - to get other people's hard-earned goods and their women. If his followers wasted their time creating art, poetry, music, literature, etc., then he wouldn't get all his loot and power and sex, now would he?
What a dismal, bleak existence they have. They have nothing to show for it either. Where's the art? The theatre? Literature? Film? Music? Where's anything? Other than misery, death and poverty? Can't they see that? What a shameful waste of humanity. You wonder how much productivity and creativity is being wasted with over a billion people trapped, living the nightmare of a long-gone putrid psychopath. Such a shame.
