Arabs of Bulgarian Citizenship on Iraq's Terrorist List

More evidence of the jihadist presence in Europe. From Bulgaria's Novinite, with thanks to Anthony:

Some dozen Arabs with Bulgarian citizenship have been detected among the active terrorist groups in Iraq, according to CIA quoted by Bulgarian TRUD daily.

However, Bulgaria's special services and military intelligence denied having such information.

The CIA claimed that one of those terrorists, dubbed D.M., had passed through Bulgaria last month.

I have to wonder if these fellows aren't remnants of the Cold War, when the Soviets courted Islamic terrorists as a weapon against the West and Bulgaria was their favorite source for "wet work".

Mr. Crawford,

I made the following comment:

"...immediate attention should be given to those Eastern European countries that were protected from multiculturalism, political correctness and mass Islamic immigration by their Cold War isolation. These countries should be informed
and educated to the dangers of unrestricted Islamic immigration."

To which the fabulous Bat Ye'or replied:

"Unfortunately those countries - like now Rumania - have powerful Communist
parties. They were the traditional allies of the Muslim world and the
decisive agents of Western destruction.
Except for this point I agree with your comments.

Sound along the lines of what you were saying above.

Isn't Bulgaria an eastern European country that shares the same history as the former Yugoslavia which was invaded by Muslims 400 years ago? Although the Europeans drove the invaders out, they were left with a population of natives who converted to Islam and constitute a majority in certain regions (e.g. Kosovo). Presumably, the Communist regimes suppressed Islam just as vigorously as they did Christianity, while they courted Arafat, Saddam, et al, as a means of tilting at the US and its allies. With the fall of Communism, it should come as no surprise that European Muslims and their Arab co-religionists would re-establish connections in pursuit of political power.

The US and Russia are mostly responsible for emboldening these crazy jihadists. When Russia lost in Afganistan back in '89 it just pumped up the arabs to think that they could actually fight against a Western Superpower and win. Thank us in part for funding and teaching the afghans how defeat the Soviets. Real smart huh? The downside is that it fired up the jihadists and BL and Co. are fanning the flames. That's why a quick defeat in Iraq now was so inportant but it didn't happen, thanks in part to a lot of EU countries that didn't join the US program. A large multi-national force would have stomped the will out of these islamic extremists, but now they are slipping away to fight another day while the cannon fodder insurgents get killed by the thousands. All islamics are getting uppity and I think Europe is starting to regret being anti American.

How long this Iraq war will continue is anyone's guess. Anyone can plainly see that islam is making a move and it's past time to put a stop to it, no more immigration in any country! Deport all radicals, monitor all mosque activity, close them down when hate speach starts. This is just for starters.

CROSS
Agree with you - sleeping with the enemy is a very dangerous game which US and Russia have played - to their cost! Am not happy about US's continued policy in propping up rotten House of Saud any more than Russia's 'friendship' with the Mullahs. In both these countries DEMOCRACIES are a MUST if the ME is ever to be stable, prosperous and civilized. Particularly in case of Saudi Arabia where the world's largest and most powerful
Democracy STOPS any attempt by liberal Arabs to change an ABSOLUTE MONARCHY into a more democratic country thereby inviting much bitterness from torture victims in Saudi jails - smacks of woeful HIPOCRISY to say the least...
Bulgaria seems determined to ignore Jihadists in its midst but is not alone in this - IGNORE UNPLEASANT FACTS LONG ENOUGH AND THEY MIGHT GO AWAY.... Wishful thinking, alas.

Romania is a worry too.
I was there 2 years ago and I noticed then that both in Bukarest and in Brashov the Turks and Arabs are EVERYWHERE!! They don't work, nobody knows what they do, but they have the pockets full of money and they are all over the place smoking, drinking, (all forbidden in the Qu'ran) and chatting up the girls.

Friend of mine tells me it's mostly drugs behind it, and of course in such a poor country they can buy influence or rather corrupt the local officials to back them...

Romania is also a "safe" place to launch internet scams and they can host terrorist websites.

What better way to infiltrate either the Bulgarian mission in Iraq, or to pose as friendly Bulgarian soldiers (an army uniform or two should not be hard to obtain), and with a a native command of Bulgarian, be mistaken by other allies -- i.e. the Americans -- in some very dangerous situations.

Bulgaria may have to rethink its tolerance of Muslims. Some very good articles on the Ottoman treatment of non-Muslims appeared in Bulgaria, and once one has ignored the required Marxist claptrap and boilerplate, the picture that emerges amply confirms Gladstone's 1876 pamphlet, "Bulgarian Horrors and the Eastern Question." Gladstone was protesting the appeasement of the Ottoman Empire, which kept ignoring its own supposed reforms whenever it meant loosening its grip on its subjugated Christian population. The Bulgarian wars followed, and the Ottoman tide receded. But not to worry -- some of those Muslims were promptly taken by a solicitous Turkish government, and set down in the emptiest and most desolate part of the Ottoman Empire, that had plenty of space for repopulation -- you guessed it, in the vilayets that made up what was known in the Western world as "Palestine." That's right -- Muslims from Bulgaria, just like some of Abd el-Kader's troops from Algeria, and plenty of Egyptians who came with Mehmet Ali and decided to stay, all settled from the 1830s on, in the area that was then set aside, in the vast Turkish domains, for the Jews of both Europe and of the Middle East to create again, after 2000 yeas, a Jewish commonwealth (see Aryeh Avneri, "The Myth of Dispossession.") And these people from Egypt, Algeria, and even Europe are among the antecedents of that recently-invented "ancient Palestinian people" "tilling its soil" "from time immemorial." But not all of them have forgotten, curiously, their real origins -- some of those who were descended from Berbers, or Muslims in Bulgaria, may recall -- but they are not telling any Infidels. It would spoil the "Palestinian people" pitch. And we can't have that.

Bulgaria is a conspirator's paradise. Sunnis flow like water thruogh the country, going every which way; and for those inclined to make alliances with them against their Shi'a enemies what better place to do so than in the wholly dysfunctional city of Sophia?

Use the enemy's strength against him. Make the enemy hurt himself. Encourage the Sunnis to attact the Shi'ites in such a way the Shi'ites can blame the West. The Sunnis love it. And so long as no one makes trouble for the Bulgarian govt. they do not care what others do there. That's not the case in the West. Bulgaria is a wonderland of deceit and intrigue. There one can work openly with Moslem terrorists and Columbian drug dealers. Things not ever possible in the West, not even possible for Moslem clerics in London, are fine in Sophia.

That kind of work requires a professional, or one willing to become one. In this work of ours we need people who will take up the challenge of competing with our Moslem cousins. Look at the bright side of this. Bulgaria is an excellent place for workers for freedom in the world. The Dutch, had they the sense, would flock there like vultures. It's an opportunity. It's not just good for Moslems. What they do, we can do better. This is an excellent chance for the West to make a push forward.

Go you Dutch to Sophia to plot the course of you future.

Bulgarians Reluctant to Sell Land to Foreigners
2 December 2004, Thursday.

Every second Bulgarian doesn't approve the governmental decision to allow the sale of Bulgarian land to EU citizens.

A total of 65% of the people are also against the Bulgarian land sale to non-EU citizens, a survey of the MBMD polling agency showed. The survey was conducted November 17 to 25.

Earlier in the week it was decided that the ban on Bulgarian land sale to foreigners will be removed from the Constitution. Thus the constitution will allow Bulgarian land sale to foreigners grouped in three categories: EU citizens that will be entitled to such sale under the Accession Treaty of the country; both EU and non-EU citizens entitled to land purchase under an international treaty; and under the hereditary law.

The lawmakers agreed also on constitutional amendments concerning partial transfer of powers from Bulgaria's official institutions to the European Union, as the EU acquis communautaire will become supreme law for the country on its accession.

The MBMD survey also revealed that some 70% of the people back Bulgaria's EU membership, while 63% give thumbs up to the future Euro currency.

The number of people saying that the EU membership will lead to more restrictions rather than more opportunities is on the raise reaching 31%, whereas in 2003 it was 24%.

War on the Home Front
Focused as we are on Fourth Generation war in Iraq and Afghanistan, it is easy to forget that the phenomenon is vastly larger than any single war or opponent, even Islam. An article in a local Washington paper, The Journal, reminds us that 4GW is also being fought on American soil, by parties that have nothing to do with the armies of the Prophet.
The article, by staff writer Robert Arkell, was titled "Police: MS-13 threatened Maryland officers:"
The notorious E1 Salvadoran gang known as MS-13 has threatened to execute Prince George’s County police officers as tensions continue to escalate between officers and gang members, police said.
MS-13, which stands for Mara Salvatrucha, has increased its presence in Prince George’s County with more than 600 active members…
Some of those MS-13 gang members recently confided to police about carrying out a deadly ambush plan that targeted county police officers…
If members of a gang based on a foreign ethnic identity ambush cops, it is more than a crime: it is an act of war, Fourth Generation war to be precise. Hopefully, it will not happen in Prince George’s County. But it has happened elsewhere in the United States. It is not for nothing that the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department is a more avid student of 4GW theory than any American military service.
Future historians will find it interesting that at the same time a supposedly conservative President has enmeshed us in Fourth Generation wars abroad, he has opened the flood gates to importing Fourth Generation enemies at home. President Bush’s first act upon reelection was to resurrect his proposal for an amnesty for illegal immigrants. It is a safe bet that MS-13 gang members would be among those who benefit from such an amnesty if Congress were so foolish as to allow it to become law.
As I have said before in these columns, in a Fourth Generation world, invasion by immigration easily can be more dangerous than invasion by a foreign army. At some point, the foreign army will go home. But immigrants stay, and if they do not acculturate, they permanently change the cultural landscape. As the Dutch recently discovered, the changes may go beyond introducing some highly spiced dishes into an otherwise bland cuisine.
If an American President were seriously interested in protecting this country from Fourth Generation threats, aka the "War on Terror," his top priority would be real immigration reform. Real reform means:
• Controlling our borders. Given the magnitude of illegal immigration across our southern frontier, we need to put in place something like the old East-West German border. Anyone trying to cross it unlawfully risks getting shot.
• Immediate deportation of any non-citizen who commits a felony, along with all identifiable family members. That would give immigrant communities an incentive to control their own members who might be criminally inclined. There should be no such things as gangs made up of immigrants.
• A neutral policy of Americanization of all immigrants. As was true for the forefathers of many American citizens, they are welcome to maintain their national language and customs in their homes, but all business in the public square must follow American norms, starting with English-only. Far from hurting immigrants, that policy made it possible for children born in Ukraine ghettoes to join the American middle class.
• Mechanisms to foster Americanization, beginning with the public schools. If we need a model, look at New York City’s superb public schools of 100 years ago.
• Restriction of the rate of immigration so that we do not take in more people than we can Americanize.
These measures, taken together, would do far more to keep Fourth Generation war away from our doorsteps than hundreds of billions of dollars in additional defense spending. If our grandchildren end up cursing us, it will probably be for an open-borders immigration policy that left them a civil war to fight.

Waterdragon, Hugh: Bulgaria's tolerance of Islam is a political necessity. About 11% of the population is of Muslim heritage; albeit mostly Turkish (in the east and near the Danube) and Pomak (Bulgar-speaking Muslims), who are concentrated in the mountains near Greece.

Near the end of the Cold War, the Communist regime embarked on a policy of "Bulgarification", in which ethnic Turks and Pomaks had to drop Muslim names and adopt "Bulgar" ones, which were usually from the Eastern Orthodox saints. It included situations such as Muslim Imams getting stuck with names like Christo Christov. A large portion of the ethnic Turkish population fled to Turkey.

One of the first reforms of Bulgaria's post-Communsit government was to re-permit traditional Muslim names.

It should also be considered that the Muslim presence in Bulgaria continued after the end of Ottoman rule; and that the Muslim minority remained in place throughout the times of the Balkan and two world wars.
