Tsunami in Indonesia: Jihadists pitch in to clean up and keep Islamic law

"Moderate" Indonesia sends in the jihadists to help clean up after the tsunami — and make sure the locals are behaving in a sufficiently Islamic manner. From "Radicals pitch in to clean up and keep Islamic law" in the Sydney Morning Herald, with thanks to tinplug:

Radical Islamic groups best known for smashing bars and violent support of the jailed cleric Abu Bakar Bashir have sent large contingents of their members to Aceh with funding provided by the Indonesian Government.

At Banda Aceh's airport, trucks with supplies to be ferried to disaster-struck areas by US Navy helicopters have been unloaded by members of Bashir's group, the MMI, including one man proudly wearing an Osama bin Laden T-shirt.

Members of the FPI (Islamic Defenders Front), famous for its attacks on nightspots in Jakarta, are now living in Banda Aceh in tents provided by the army and the Ministry of Social Affairs.

The head of the FPI contingent, Hilmy Bakar Almascaty, said about 250 members had come to Aceh with tickets provided by the Government; 800 more on board an Indonesian warship would help clean up the devastated province.

"FPI is not only an organisation that destroys bars and discos, it has a humanitarian side as well that the media is not happy to expose," Dr Almascaty said.

That makes me feel so much better about them! You may recall that the Nazis did the same thing: sent out pictures of Hitler petting his dog, and laughing with his aides — with the underlying message: what a great guy! If only the international media weren't so unfair!

But FPI hasn't entirely traded in jihad for charity:

Early yesterday 50 of his troops wearing FPI shirts went through a series of military drills before heading off to the city to help collect corpses still not recovered from the millions of tonnes of rubble.

Oh yes, helps for Propaganda purposes and keeping
Tsunami victims strictly controlled by lovely Sharia Law! Wonder how much aid will reach those who desperately need it, bet FPI are 'creaming off' money and supplies for their Jihadi activities in best tradition of their hero - Binny
Laden.Dr Almascaty is all 'Heart' and Sharia. Aceh
must be one of the wretchest places on the Planet
but the sight of FPI Thugs is hardly an improvement.

For nearly 12 days, the UN contributed nothing more than over-rated bureaucrats to the affected areas, not missing an opportunity to lambast the American aid contribution as something less than acceptable is now posed to take over the reins of the aid effort.

While about $4 billion has been pledged worldwide, the United Nations (news - web sites) has warned some of the promises might not be honored as in previous disasters.

Earlier Thursday, Secretary of State Colin Powell (news - web sites) said that tsunami relief efforts by the United States, India, Japan and Australia — a core group formed to coordinate their initial response — will now be merged into U.N.-led operations.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/ap/20050106/ap_on_re_as/tsunami

Geeez . . . "whose" promises will not be honored when $4B plus is at stake? Relying on recent history of the UN's collaborative history with arab interests (food for oil)- it certainly looks ominous.

Reading today's posts at JW/DW, indicating that:

the jihadi's are finally "pitching in"

through a "large scale deployment"

at the same time, Colin Powell announcing that the United States, India, Japan and Australia — a core group formed to coordinate the initial aid response —

will now be merged into "U.N.-led operations" . . .

It will be interesting to take note, how the Arab media covered the U.S. relief efforts prior to the UN taking over as opposed to after - as the UN tries to prove it's relevance.

$4B Aid . . . in UN hands . . .while jihadi's maintain order . . .oy!
God save us from those who would save us.

It's approaching midnight in central Java and 10 men are piling into the back of a beat-up Daihatsu pickup. Dressed in military fatigues and white caftans with red checked scarves wrapped around their heads in imitation of Palestinian fighters, these young militants from the radical Islamic Mujahidin Council are gearing up for tonight's antivice patrol on the streets of Yogyakarta. The first target: Pasar Kembang, a rundown complex of dingy rooms and narrow corridors in the city's red-light district. Clutching clubs topped with sickles, the Council storm through the rooms as customers flee out the back. No one is nabbed, but the 10 men vow to return. Says Abu Haidar, the group's operational commander: "We do this to remind the people and the government that this is a holy month for Muslims."

Couples kissing after-hours. Pedicab drivers playing poker. Hookers and their johns. All are targets for the Council as it strikes in the name of Islam. Since the downfall of former President Suharto three years ago, violent Muslim raids on bars, discos and massage parlors have become commonplace in the capital, Jakarta. But now dozens of similar groups have appeared in smaller cities on Java and Sumatra. People are regularly clubbed, beaten or intimidated. Police rarely interfere. In Yogyakarta a soldier patrolling the streets says he has no problem with the roving vigilantes "as long as their actions do not lead to anarchy."

Billions of dollars are poouring in to helpo the stricken nations of South Asia. Yet India and Thailand have declared that they are in no need, and can take care of the situation on their own. The majority of the money will go to Shri Lanka and Indonesia. In fact the vast bulk of the money is going to be spent in Aceh, the hot bed of islamic fundamentalism.

Since the imposition of Sharia in Aceh, the persecition of Chrisytians and other non-muslim minorities has gathered pace, with churches burnt down and Christians killed. So what we will be doing in re-building the infrastructure in Aceh, is enabling the forces of Jijad to continue their murderous imposition of sharia on muslim and non-muslim alike.

Powell: Tsunami Aid Might Help Fight Terrorism

JAKARTA, Indonesia – U.S. money and military assistance to countries where tens of thousands died in the tsunami might lessen anti-American sentiment in the Muslim world and help in the fight against terrorism, Secretary of State Colin Powell said Tuesday.
www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2005/1/4/144200.shtml

Right...just give them some money. (sarc)

Posted by: Greg [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 6, 2005 8:44 AM

(I'm going to post this at several comments today to make sure everyone gets it. Please make it your business to send your own version to your editor of your local paper.)

I just read this in the St. Pete Times.

Over $3 Billion dollars have been pledged so far. The top donor countries for tsunami disaster aid are:

Australia: $810 Million
Germany: $674 M
Japan: $500 M
USA: $350 M
Norway: $183 M
France: $103 M
Britian: $95 M
Sweden: $75 M
Denmark: $75 M
Spain: $68 M

Sum the totals above...you should get $2,934,000,000 ($2.9 B). That means that the total pledged from countries not included above is no more than $168 M. This is the MOST it could be, since if it was over this amount, the international figure would be touted as $3.1 Billion, not $3 Billion. If we take the $3 Billion figure at face value, that means that the 180-odd nations not listed above have only contributed a combined total of $68 Million.

Hello? What's wrong with this picture?

Where are all those super-rich oil countries? Those controlled by the "religion of peace" that touts "giving in charity" as one of its five so-called "pillars"?

There are over 200 Million Arabs living in the Middle East. They can't even send one dollar each? How about those oft-cited 1.2 Billion Muslims world-wide? If they sent 8 CENTS each, they could send $100 Million, putting them apace with France's 60 Million people.

Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Brunei, and Libyan all makes hundreds of billions of dollars a year in oil reserves. Iran, Pakistan (and thanks to Pakistan, probably Egypt) have billions to squander on nuclear research (while their people live in squalor to boot). When are these big spenders going to step up to the plate and contribute like the "immoral" and "Crusader" countries?

This should be considered especially repugnant in light of some of these ultra-wealthy nations to raise funds for suicide bombers in and around Israel.

"The Americans have to understand our culture here," said Hilmy Bakar Almascaty, vice-chairman of the Jakarta-based Islamic Defenders Front, which is mobilising relief efforts of its own.
"If they are not sensitive to local issues then there will be problems. If American women come to Aceh, they must wear dilbab for example. There is Sharia law in Aceh and that is what is dictated."
Hope he tries to enforce this and some GI-Jane tsanami,s his head.

Well, what makes me really sick and angry is the fact that a mere 4 million people like the Norwegians or a mere 16 million Australians are giving so much, yet there is an army of slimeballs already calling the Western countries guilty for that mess.

Not to mention the arrogant followers of the man who raped, murdered and whiped his private parts with his left hand...

Please note that Saudi Arabia gave $10 million.

Please also note that Formula One race car driver Michael Schumacher (sp) gave $10 MILLION.

Anyone surprised by this except the U.S. government ('we hope this generosity will make the Muslim world love us') and the western members of the U.N. ('we are all one world in disasters'... unless you are a woman doctor who isn't wearing a head covering as you try to help)?

My money will go to the tribal-secular, the Buddhists and the Hindus. Period. The Muslims will only funnel aid to prop up their rotting creed, the same way aid to the former Soviets (wheat deals during their 'bad harvests', etc.) kept that dead regime ambulatory and in power for another 20 or more years beyond its own ability to survive.

While I feel sorry for all of the poor suckers in southeast Asia who were conquered by the Muslim hordes in the preceding centuries, and their sad state under this despotic theocratic tyranny, it does no good to de facto aid their oppressors with infusions of billions. Let them see how inept, unworldy and imbecilic their governments under Allah are, in practice, without our infidel dollars.

'Om mane padme hum' over 'Mohammad' any day.

OT-

what all of these people in the Indian Ocean region seem to have missed is:

another tsunami could hit today, from the same source, yet there are no plans to keep people away from the areas already obliterated, and at risk of a repeat.

Brilliant forsight, as usual. Indonesia could have installed an earthquake-tsunami early warning system of sea bouys years ago, but were too busy planning the annihilation of the decadent West, along with their Islamic brethren trying to get their own 'Islamic Bombs', to bother.

"Allah knows better"- as the slaughtered Dutch film-maked Theo Van Gogh put it.

"For the moment, Americans and other traditional enemies, are angels. Who knows about tomorrow." Although given as a hypothetical, this line speaks volumes. They will gladly use our aid money but will be resentful that the money did not come from other Muslims, and then they will turn on a dime to attack as soon as they see an opening.

Just in case you missed my post yeterday, here it is again:

I’ve read the posts asking for Jihadwatch readers to provide ideas for what we might do to help spread the word. From what I’ve seen so far, there are some great ideas and you have my complete support. I would suggest though that we’d be remiss in our efforts if first we didn’t recognize and show our tangible support and appreciation to Robert and Hugh for running the Jihadwatch site. They’re providing a great service and doing outstanding work--I think we should do what we can to help them continue that work.

With that said, I’m challenging all Jihadwatch readers to donate $100.00 (or whatever you can) to jihadwatch.org AND to send at least one of Robert’s books to someone (friend, foe, family, politician, etc.).

There’s a donation link in the left column on the home page and a link at the top of the page for purchasing books.

Please do what you can.

Incompetence the real killer
With Indonesia bearing the brunt of the death and destruction wrought by the Indian Ocean tsunami, it is instructive to ask whether this was entirely because of its proximity to the earthquake's epicenter. The answer, it seems, is a resounding "no".

According to an Australian tsunami expert, Ted Bryant, not one life would have been lost if there had been a warning system. Many will retort that tsunamis in the Indian Ocean are uncommon, wave stations are expensive, and that Indonesia has better use for its limited resources.

Yet the excuse of non-availability of expensive technology rings hollow if one looks at how and why so many survived the tsunami on the Sumatran island of Simeuleu. The people there have etched into their consciousness the thousands of deaths caused by a tsunami in 1907, and they survived by fleeing to high ground on experiencing the recent strong quake.

Dr. Kerry Sieh, an American seismologist, predicted the quake at a conference just weeks before it struck. Such was his concern that he distributed posters on Sumatra itself and briefed local officials. His warning, unfortunately, was not heeded.

As Bjorn Lomborg of the Copenhagen Consensus points out, it is poor countries that suffer most from natural disasters, while the rich ones are better prepared with contingencies. In view of the frequency of quakes along the western coast of Sumatra, how much would it have cost to educate coastal people to flee to higher ground on experiencing an earthquake, and to have arranged for sirens, telephone text messages, radio and television stations to warn the people of possible impending danger? Like technology, the cost is really no excuse when even the simplest precautions were not taken.

If it was not the absence of money or technology that resulted in the staggering death toll, then what did cause it? It can only be one thing, and that is competency. The people of Indonesia are not poor because the country lacks resources. Not at all. They are poor because the country has a culture of corruption and cronyism rather than culture of competence. Too many officials are in their jobs, not because of their effectiveness, but because of whom they have curried favor with. This, in turn, permits them to put their own interests first in the allocation of scarce resources. They are not made accountable for their incompetence anymore than well-placed Indonesian criminals are brought to account for perpetrating crimes against the innocent and well intentioned, but poorly connected.

This tragedy is probably the last chance for Indonesia to end the suffering of the people in Aceh. Only a disaster on this scale could end -- practically -- the decades-long military oppression of the Acehnese

Indonesian rebels shoot at tsunami victims, military says
LHOKNGA, Aceh (AP): Rebels on a fishing boat fired on Thursday at soldiers and tsunami victims on the devastated western coast of Aceh province, the military alleged.
The incident, which left no one injured, occurred near a destroyed bridge in Lhoknga, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) southwest of the provincial capital Banda Aceh, said Sgt. Muhammad Guntur.
Residents there have placed a makeshift raft in the middle of a river to be able to cross, and the site is also near a distribution point for relief supplies.
Indonesian soldiers on rubber boats took off after two small fishing boats which they said were the source of the gunfire.
After giving chase for about a kilometer (half-mile), the troops caught up with the suspects and forced one fishing boat to the beach - detaining three men aboard and confiscating guns, Guntur said.
More shots were then fired from the other boat, he said.
Insurgents in Aceh have been fighting for an independent homeland since 1976. At least 13,000 people have been killed in the conflict.

Indonesian waters remain a pirate hotspot despite tsunami, official says

KUALA LUMPUR (AP): Piracy in the waters off western Sumatra ceased immediately after a Dec. 26 tsunami there, but the threat of robbery at sea remains high, even to ships carrying aid to the area, an international piracy watchdog said on Thursday.
Pirates, who have long defied marine patrols, were attacking ships near Indonesia's Sumatra island during December, said Noel Choong, head of the International Maritime Bureau's piracy watch center in Kuala Lumpur. But "after the tsunami, everything just stopped," he said.
That does not mean they were victims though ... it is too early to tell," Choong said. "If their base was in the southern part of Sumatra, they should still be safe. We will wait and monitor the situation."
Asked whether pirates might target international aid groups currently operating in Aceh province, Choong noted that the United Nations has advised ships in the area to be cautious.
Given the UN warning, the International Maritime Bureau will continue to list the waters off Sumatra as a pirate hotspot, he said. "Whether or not they will target the aid groups depends on whether those make good targets. It also depends on how heartless the pirates are. But so far, it has not happened."
Indonesia is the world's most pirate-plagued nation. It suffered at least 70 pirate attacks in the first nine months of last year, more than a quarter of the global total.

The small Rengma Naga tribe of northeast India do not blame earthquakes on mortal sin. They believe that the sky is male and that the earth (his wife) is female. Every few years the sky gets horny and has intercourse with his wife, of course, this makes the earth shake

HANA and NI were brother and sister. HANA had thingies but NI didn't, but she used to use a tree for pole dancing. One day HANA hid a sharp stone in the tree bark which caused an interesting wound in a naughty place. This unexpectedly led to sexual misbehavior.
The resulting offspring were left to their own devices as HANA was taken into care by the authorities to become the Moon and NI had to set off to rise again as the Sun.

I have watched the survivors in this region on the news, and what is amazing is that women who have lost EVERYTHING still have managed to find some sort of rag to wrap around their heads. It is funny that that little detail astounded me, if my entire family had washed out to sea, my home and all contents were destroyed and I barely survived drowning myself the last thing I would think of whether I was use to it or not would be to throw a cloth over my head, but with the "modesty islamocops" patroling I can see why they worry about it. These people never cease to amaze me, tremendous loss of life and property and they are still worried about "observing islamic law" and keeping women covered.

OH BUT THEY HAD OBEYED THIS LAW mo-ham-od would have been found out and his followers would not plague on the world today?? No wonder mo-ham-od would want all the Jews & Christians dead they had the written word and those who could read it!!!

False Prophets!
Deuteronomy chapter 13:1-19
Be careful to observe only that which I enjoin you. Neither add to it nor take away from it.
If there appears among you a prophet or dreamer-diviner and he gives you a sign or a portent. Saying let us follow and worship another god whom you have not experienced even if the sign or portent that he he named to come true, do not heed the words of that prophet or that dream-diviner. For the LORD your God is testing you to see whether you really love the LORD your GOD with all your heart and soul.
Follow none but the LORD your GOD and revere none, but Him, Observe His Commandments alone and head only His Orders Worship none but Him and hold fast to Him. As for that prophet or dreamer-diviner he shall be put to Death, for he urged disloyalty to the LORD your GOD- who freed you from the land of Egypt and who Redeemed you from the house of Bondage to make you stray from the path that the LORD your GOD Commanded you to Follow. Thus you will sweep out the Evil from your mist. If your brother, your own mothers son, or your son or daughter, or wife of your bosom, or your closest friend entices you to secret saying “ come let us worship other gods” whom neither you nor your father have experienced. From among the gods of the peoples around you either near to you or distant, anywhere from one end of the earth to the other. Do not assent or give heed to him, show him no pity or compassion, and do not shield him; but take his life let your hand be the first against him to put him to death and the land of the rest of the people there after, stone him to death for he sought to make you stray from the LORD your GOD who brought you out of the Land of Egypt out of the House of Bondage. This all Israel will hear and be afraid and such Evil things will not be done again in your mist, If you hear it said of one of the towns that the LORD your GOD is giving you to dwell in, that some scoundrels from among you have gone and subverted the inhabitants of their town saying “come let us worship other gods” whom you have not experienced. You shall investigate and inquire and interrogate thoroughly. If it is true, the fact is established – that abhorrent thing was perpetrated in your midst, put the inhabitants of the town to the SWORD and put its cattle to the SWORD. DOOM it and all that is in it to destruction. Gather all it spoil into open square and Burn the town and all it’s spoil as a holocaust to the LORD your GOD and it shall remain everlasting ruin never to be rebuilt, Let nothing that has been DOOMED Stick to your hand in order that the LORD may turn from his Blazing Anger and show Compassion and in His Compassion increase you as He Promised your Fathers on Oath, For you will be heeding the LORD your GOD, Obeying all His commandments which I enjoin upon you this day, doing what is right in the sight of the LORD your GOD.

The Q? they should ask is why are there Churches standing and Mosques whipped out??

REMEMBER
The Christians were forsed into hiding to pray and the next day 100,000 mulsums gone??

Do any other Americans here give any value to what people from Muslim, third world, or European nations any anymore? Here we are, trying to help these people, and the Left, the Media, Europe, and Muslim countries put an anti-American spin on this (like they do with everything, no matter what we do, and even if it has nothing to do with us.) This is the perfect example- if we didn't give money, we'd be hated and demonized. But we do give money, and- no surprise here- we're still hated and demonized. Ex- that kid in the bin Laden shirt, that European bureaucrat who called us stingy and all his leftist supporters, the French and others who want us to go through the UN, the Muslims who say we aren't respecting their (primitive) culture by not subjugating female aid workers, etc. It's not legitimate criticism, and it's not about what we're doing. It's just them using the situation to promote anti-Americanism and spread their hateful propaganda. If the UN/EU are so great, they can solve this. If Allah and his followers are so great, they can solve this.

Hi everyone,

Sorry to be out of commission right when we are getting started, but, it's better now.

Update:

Mike has the freedom of religion information and is working on putting that together.

Suzi has pulled all the information together concerning the new immigration vote that is coming up. Still need someone to put all of it together with facts and figures on how many OTM, (other than Mexicans) have crossed the border.

And the amount of illegals still here, where abouts--unknown, purpose for being here--unknown.

Mom and Libby'smom are looking into Islam in the public school system---this will go to Rublev, for mass e-mailings and letters to the Secretary of Education.

Greg and Chuck are looking for "friendly news programs, radio and web sites, we can send information to and hopefully get Robert on them.

Rikki is pulling together information on the "hate Speech" law in England, so we can look at that and also getting information on who we might be able to endorse there.

We still need someone else in the U.K. to look up "friendly news sites".

Need a volunteer to look up Sharia law in Canada, put something together showing what cause and effect this will have on Canadian laws.

Son of walker is reworking his flyers and they should be done soon.

Still need someone to work on womens rights in Islam. Highlight the lack of and the abuse, ie, honor killings, female mutilations, stonings, etc.
This will go to all the major women's rights groups.

Also, need someone to work on the gay issues in Islam. I'd like to send this out to Act Up.
They will take it and forward the information along to their various groups.

Someone mentioned getting the VFW's involved. Could we have someone look into that for us?
I believe it was Informed Christian?

Another thing I'd like to get to tie into Islam in the schools is a list of college professors that have written, made speeches promoting Islam in the schools, calling for the end of Isreal or have known terrorist ties.

Also, we need to get more of the posters in the U.K. in touch with Rikki, so we can get everything organized there.

I also need to hear from the posters from the Netherlands to let me know what you would like to do there and what we can forward over to you to get you started.

Australia, same thing, let me know what info you need.

U.S. aid is welcomed, but feelings are mixed
Some commentators accuse Washington of exploiting tragedy

The Associated Press
Updated: 5:16 p.m. ET Jan. 5, 2005

BANDA ACEH, Indonesia - U.S. tsunami relief aid is being welcomed in Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim country and a nation that has been critical of the U.S.-led war in Iraq and the war in Afghanistan

As Secretary of State Colin Powell visited Sumatra island Wednesday, survivors, aid workers and others expressed gratitude for U.S. aid. Some said it fostered a feeling of brotherhood and that, like any helping hand, it could bring the two nations closer. Others felt it could help America’s tattered image in the Muslim world.
“America is the police of the world. But at the same time, they are helping us. And we are grateful,” said Mohamed Bachid Madjid, peering from a bridge into the rubble-cluttered Aceh River. “It’s not true that Muslims hate America.”
But even when America is doing something for Muslims, it comes in for criticism in the Middle East, where resentment and suspicion color thinking about the United States.
Inevitable comparison with Iraq
On the streets of Tehran, the Iranian capital, Dariush Darabian, a technician, accused Americans of “talking more than they actually do.” Jordanian columnist Aida al-Najjar wrote in the independent newspaper Ad-Dustour that the United States was exploiting “the suffering of people” to try to improve its image.
In the pages of the pro-government Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram, columnist Salah Montasser scoffed that America’s initial allocation of $15 million “is less than what America spends every minute in its war in Iraq.”
Influential satellite stations like Al-Jazeera have reported on the tsunami and America’s and the world’s response, but the main focus of coverage remains on Iraq and other regional issues.
The U.S.-led invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq infuriated many Indonesians, prompting protests throughout the country.
Polls showed that anti-U.S. sentiment was stronger in Indonesia than in any other Southeast Asian nation. A survey conducted by the Pew Research Center last year found that 83 percent of Indonesians had unfavorable opinions of the United States and that a majority preferred Osama bin Laden and Yasser Arafat to President Bush. Many have accused the United States of being anti-Muslim.
Hoping in part to prove such views unfounded, Bush ordered one of the largest military relief operations in U.S. history to help speed aid distribution to Indonesia and other tsunami-battered nations after the Dec. 26 disaster. The government also increased its aid package to $350 million.
Speaking Tuesday in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, Powell said the U.S. relief operation could lessen anti-U.S. sentiment in the Muslim world and aid the fight against terrorism.
“I hope that as a result of our efforts, as a result of our helicopter pilots being seen by the citizens of Indonesia helping them, that value system of ours will be reinforced,” he said.
‘Even the devil himself’
Some, however, voiced a lukewarm welcome for the Americans.
“I would take aid from the United States or even the devil himself if it would mean getting those people on [Sumatra’s] western coast some medicine and food,” said Anton Hermawan, a doctor from the Indonesian Red Crescent, the Islamic world’s equivalent of the Red Cross. He had bags under his eyes after a long journey by boat to treat the wounded in the shattered coastal city of Meulaboh.
Hilmy Bakar, a spokesman of the Islamic Defender Front, which is conducting its own aid mission, said he was keeping a close eye on the Americans.
“It’s OK that aid from the United States is here,” he said. “If they open bars, sell alcohol or open prostitution centers, then we will fight them.”
After flying into Banda Aceh’s airport, Powell traveled by helicopter over Sumatra’s ravaged coastline. There were no U.S. flags to welcome him, and the majority of more than a dozen survivors interviewed were unaware that America’s top diplomat was in their city.
One of them, Sabirin, 34, a tailor, said he had no interest in politics. Most of what he was interested in was gone, including his home, his shop and nine relatives. Riding a rusted bicycle through the deserted wasteland that until 10 days ago was this city’s main marketplace, he said Powell was as welcome as anyone who wanted to help.
“The United States is a superpower, a rich country that can help people who suffer,” Sabirin said. “I believe they are acting out of concern.”
Nearby, in a government conference hall that has become a refugee camp, a mother of five said she had trouble finding words to express her thanks for the help that had poured into Indonesia.
“When someone helps you, it creates a feeling of brotherhood,” said the woman, Cut Mariana, 40, who had time to pack a small suitcase of valuables after her house started shaking and muddy water surged through her home.
Now, she and her family are camped out on rattan mats. They live off the donations of rice, cooking oil, water and a few other essentials.
“It leaves me speechless that so many foreign countries are helping us,” she said. “I am truly grateful.”

It is ashame that many who are making the polices in our goverment have never even read the qu-ran they have no idea??

but things are changeing!! REMEMBER POWELL IS OUT!!!

I'm sure the jihadis are there to make sure not too many warm & fuzzy feelings towards Americans & the West are allowed to develop and flourish. Gotta keep up the Hate the Infidel campaign. Even when they're feeding and clothing you. They're still filthy Kufr.

I'm sure attitudes like that woman, who says "When someone helps you, it creates a feeling of brotherhood" and that she is grateful for foreign help, is quite threatening to Islamic power. I wonder if the speeches in the mosques are all about how wonderful the infidels are. Or whether they've upped the voltage on the hatred spewed, to quash any "feelings of brotherhood".

I can't help but distrust their presence amongst the aid workers. I, too, wonder how much of the aid will disappear and end up in the hands of those who'd gladly plant another bomb in another nightclub. And at what point do they decide the aid workers constitute an occupation by infidels? Bravo to the aid workers, but I don't envy their position.

Aceh will be busy for awhile rebuilding,
with money from the world,
their islamic hate state.

Thanks Shiva for the info re the islamic thugs trying to enforce obedience, as an increasing reality in Indonesia.

My money isn't going there, though i think the U.S. gov. had no choice, or any gov.

There is no way there will ever be good press, or appreciation for what the U.S. particularly was able to do for Aceh, with it's helicopters and naval fleet, speed being the name of the game in saving lives.

Expert warning

Geologist gave repeated alerts
Jonathan Leake

A LEADING geologist repeatedly warned Indonesian officials that an earthquake and tsunami would soon strike their shores, it emerged this weekend.

Kerry Sieh, professor of geology at California Institute of Technology, has been studying the region for nearly a decade.

Last July he became so concerned at the likely massive loss of life that he printed and distributed 5,000 posters and brochures around some of the islands later hit by the earthquake.

He addressed church congregations and schools to tell people what to do in an earthquake. His main advice was for people to live away from shorelines.

Sieh had been due to meet Indonesian officials last month to discuss a wider education programme but the meeting was cancelled at the last minute because the officials said they had no money.

Two weeks ago he expressed his fear that a big earthquake and tsunami were overdue in the region at a conference in San Francisco.

Sieh said this weekend: “No one can predict exactly when an earthquake will happen but it was clear that this area was at relatively high risk and such an event would definitely happen one day.

“We told them it would kill people, wreck infrastructure and destroy livelihoods. But our warnings were falling on deaf ears.

“My team and I decided to bypass the national and local government and start warning people directly. I hope our efforts saved some lives.”

Ten years ago Sieh installed monitors on islands off Sumatra. His research focused on the Mentawai Islands, a chain 100 miles south of the epicentre of the Boxing Day quake. Communication has not been re-established with the islands since the tsunami.

At his speech to the annual meeting of the American Geophysical Union in San Francisco, he pointed out that, historically, such events have occurred in clusters.

Sieh believes this means another quake could be on the way: “There is some evidence that the stresses on the tectonic plates south of the epicentre may now have increased and raised the chances of another major earthquake.”

Thanks Shiva for the info re the islamic thugs trying to enforce obedience, as an increasing reality in Indonesia.
More evidence that the Indonesian goverment is sponsorering internal terror groups
Many of these thugs are also members of Abu Bakar Bashir,s merry bad boy band, and Laskar Jihad.
Why cant the Indonesian goverment use the aid money to send medical teams/relief workers to the area.
These are the very same people/groups who on other islands, have been murdering, raping chistians, burning churches doing the dirty work for the Indonesian goverment, same like the Jangaweed in Dafur and OBL for Saudi.
These are the people who scream and shout KILL KILL THE INFEDEL outside the USA,Australian and british embassies
These are the people going to hotels looking for Americans to beat up
These are the people who have had training in the Philipines and Afganistan,to kill westerners
These are the people who are radical moslims who terrorize moderate moslims
ALL WITH THE BLESSING OF THE INDONESIAN STATE
These are the people who should be shot on site

Moslems as being responsible for so many scientific and mathematical discoveries.
The most remarkable of all

?

Plus the amazing discovery of what can be done with three stones
The head of the FPI contingent, Hilmy Bakar Almascaty, said about 250 Members of the FPI (Islamic Defenders Front),had come to Aceh to instruct and help the survivors the wonders this amazing discovery.
And another 800 to protect the suvivors from the invading infidel monsters

Sufficiently islamic manner hmmmm....

If thats what they want then I'd have thought the best way to keep Allah grinning would be for all the surviving muslims on the west coast of Indonesia to commit Hari Kari.... their demon-god sure as cheese wanted them dead.

As a followup to an earlier post on this thread, where I anticipated the inevitable negative press (courtesy of UN prompting) in response to US AID. Well, it has begun -
as described at Diplomad. . .

"The local Guardian correspondent has called the Embassy; he is doing a negative story on the US relief effort based on "information" provided by the UN at a press conference. "

You can read the rest at the Diplomad link:
http://diplomadic.blogspot.com/

Arguements in favor of maintaining the UN are lost on me. Some would argue that the US abandoning the UN would reinforce the French stance and solidly aligne Eurabia against us.
Isn't that already the case?
