Boston terror threat probed

From the Boston Herald, with thanks to Maintour:

Federal and state authorities are investigating a nuclear terrorist threat against Boston after a man calling from Mexico told California police that he smuggled two Iraqis and four Chinese over the border, the Boston Herald has learned.

``They got a call from across the border in Mexico to the California Highway Patrol and he said he brought two Iraqis and four Chinese (individuals) across the border and according to him, they stated soon to follow behind them would be some sort of material,'' said a law enforcement source familiar with the investigation.

``He refers to some sort of nuclear material that will follow them through New York up into Boston.''

According to the source, the caller has not identified himself and did not show up for a meeting with federal investigators in California but he did leave pictures of four Chinese men and some names at a ``drop'' site at the Mexico-California border.

``They were dropped by the source at a location. He literally threw them over a fence from Mexico to the U.S. side,'' said the source. ``There are pictures of the four Chinese and some names but just how accurate they are remains a question''

Massachusetts law enforcement officials were notified of the threat at 5:30 a.m. today through the FBI and Boston Police Joint Terrorist Task Force.

The threat was serious enough that Mayor Menino ordered the Fire Commissioner and the state's Homeland Security Chief into his office at City Hall, where they met with officials from the CIA, FBI, and Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, a high-ranking city official told the Herald.

``They are desperately trying to piece it together,'' said the offial, who added that if the threat is real it is ``very scary.''

A company that trains explosive-sniffing dogs said it was alerted that the canines would be searching for a ``dirty bomb,'' a New York City law enforcement official said yesterday.

UPDATE: This one was a hoax.

The President is being inaugurated tomorrow, it could be going to D.C. I hope this story turns out to be another false threat.

Well.. if something terrible is eventually going to happen to a US city at some point (and I hope it doesn't) then let it be Boston. Not that I have anything against Beantown mind you but.. John Fraud Kerry and Teddy 'The Swimmer' Kennedy usually are in that city at the same time... Perhaps they'll both be dining with Terry McAuliff and it'll be a trifecta..

Russia’s Chief Rabbi Denies U.S. Anti-Semitism Allegations
Created: 10.01.2005 13:07 MSK (GMT +3), Updated: 13:07 MSK

Russia’s chief Rabbi Berl Lazar criticized a U.S. State Department report alleging rising anti-Semitism in Russia, and noted instead positive improvements in his country.

“The U.S. State Department’s special report lacks several aspects which point to positive changes in this respect over the past 15 years,” Lazar told Interfax on Sunday.

The report, released Wednesday, was mandated by an act of Congress last year, and covers 62 countries, documenting anti-Semitic acts around the world between July 2003 and the end of last year.

“We can’t say the situation is absolutely satisfactory everywhere, but we see that it is developing the right way,” Lazar was quoted as saying.

“The federal authorities understood several years ago, what we actually mean when we are talking about the threat of anti-Semitism as a precursor of fascism,” he continued.

“But Russia is a large country. What has been understood at the federal level did not reach the regional authorities at once, to say nothing of local authorities. However, local governments have been taking active measures lately to combat anti-Semitism,” the rabbi said.

He said hooligans who attempted to destroy a Jewish community center in Ulyanovsk were recently arrested, an anti-Semite journalist has been convicted in Novgorod, and Moscow prosecutors have recently appealed a suspended sentence for a publisher of Mein Kampf.

“Anti-Semites always belong to marginal groups in Russia. When Jews are weak, they act brazenly, but when a Jewish community is strong, they never venture to attack,” Lazar said

Pro-Kremlin Youth Group Targets British Actress And Rights Activist Vanessa Redgrave
Created: 04.01.2005 13:27 MSK (GMT +3), Updated: 11:59 MSK
MosNews
British actress Vanessa Redgrave, known for close cooperation with human rights groups and harsh criticism of Russia’s policy in Chechnya, has been targeted by protesters in the pay of a pro-Kremlin youth group linked to Vladimir Putin and his ex-KGB allies, the Times newspaper reported this week.

The Marching Together group, known for its close links to the Kremlin, mounted a picket near Redgrave’s home in London. Marching Together press for extradition of Akhmed Zakayev, Aslan Maskhadov’s envoy, to Moscow. Zakayev was granted an asylum in Britain. Times said, the group paid young Russian immigrants a pounds 15 pounds fee for attending the action.

The marchers have taken part in at least six demonstrations, including the picket near Redgrave’s home in Chiswick two weeks ago and a meeting in Trafalgar Square in October. Redgrave said this weekend that she believed the demonstration and an attempt the night afterwards to smash the door to her block of flats may have been connected, Times reported. Redgrave has sought advice on personal protection from anti-terrorist police and has asked for closed-circuit television to be installed.

During the Trafalgar Square demo, demonstrators held up placards with slogans such as “Merry Xmas, Mr Zakayev, stop your bloody business” and “Zakayev get out of the UK”.

Marching Together, however, denies it has any presence in London. But one source who has attended meetings with the demonstration organizers said they openly talked about their membership of the group.

Marching Together, formed in 2001, has been criticised for appearing to be a puppet of Putin and the FSB. It claims 100,000 members, mostly students, and Vasily Yakemenko, its leader, is a former spokesman for Putin’s government. According to the Novaya Gazeta weekly, Marching Together is supported financially by Gazprom, the Russian state gas company, and its overseas subsidiaries. It received nearly 47,000 pounds in 2003 and 2004 from two companies based in the British Virgin Islands

Russian Rights Activists Warn Islamic Countries of Massive Arrests of Muslims
Created: 28.12.2004 17:48 MSK (GMT +3), Updated: 17:49 MSK
MosNews
Human rights groups in the central Russian republic of Tatarstan are complaining of mass arrests of Muslims, in what they say may be an attempt by authorities to show they are fighting the war on terror.

Rafiz Kashalov, who chairs the All-Tartar Public Center told Ekho Moskvy radio that as many as 30 Muslims had been detained within a period of over a month, and most of them are still in prison.

He also said that public figures and rights activists say as many as 200 Muslims nationwide have been arrested as part of the fight against terrorism, although the use of quotas to give the appearance of progress has not been uncommon in the work of Russia’s police forces.

The activists sent a letter to the governments of a number of Muslim countries asking for help, Kashalov said in the broadcast

Boston?

About as likely as Detroit, on the Al-Qaeda wish list.

Disinformation, anyone?

America's newest "Window of Vulnerability:"

is its present inability to control illegal immigration. As we can see from this news item.

The US government must stop offering excuses that hide its failure to correct America's now very serious problems of mass illegal immigration and resulting terrorist infiltration and instead it must focus on getting the job of securing its territorial borders done-- and done THOROUGHLY and PERMANENTLY.

The best way to secure US territorial boundaries from illicit immigration and resulting terrorist infiltration is to mine its borders along its frontiers with mexico and Canada--particularly the Mexican border. Yes, (that's right) I said MINE the borders. First, by all means erect Israel-type fences to deter the more casual illegals AND place warning signs all over the place so they don't wander into a minefield. THEN, beyond such defensive structures, place the land mines --by the thousands if not millions.

It's not politically correct. But what the heck, if Islamic jihad activity is considered politically correct as it seems now to be, who gives a damn? Everybody is being warned: Americans are defending their country--enter illegally at your own risk!

Well, the man with his hand always in an "out" position, Vincente Fox can be thanked for this. He and our Government, who refuse to properly address the American/Mexican border issue. I voted for Bush, because he ran against a bigger idiot.

It's disgusting to know that these rodents can come and go as they please because the ones who are supposed to protect U.S. citizens are too busy pandering to third world nations, then leaving Americans stuck with the check.

What do we get from Mexico that would make it worthwhile to allow this to continue? Crime, a drain on the economy and natural resources, and a choice of English or Spanish on the other end of every phone call we make.

People picketing PLO cheerleader Vainessa Redgrave?

Even if they are paid by Vlad (the Impaler) Putin, ya gotta love it. Vainessa's notion of human rights is a pretty lop-sided one.

Gold star to Catherine for finding this gem.
