From the South Asia Tribune, with thanks to Nicolei:
WASHINGTON, February 14: Use of stolen or purchased nuclear weapons from Pakistan or Russia by terrorists cannot be ruled out within the next 15 years, the latest CIA report prepared by the prestigious nerve center of strategic thinking in the US intelligence community, the National Intelligence Council (NIC), reveals. The 119-Page Report is issued every 5 years and was declassified by the CIA in December 2004.
“Terrorists will continue to seek to acquire fissile material in order to construct a nuclear weapon. Concurrently, they can be expected to continue attempting to purchase or steal a weapon, particularly in Russia or Pakistan. Given the possibility that terrorists could acquire nuclear weapons, the use of such weapons by extremists before 2020 cannot be ruled out,” the report titled "Mapping the Global Future: Report of the National Intelligence Council's 2020 Project," says. It is available on the CIA's Web site. The two previous reports were issued in 1995 and 2000.

now that is scarry......wonder how those odds would change if we took this action up some more and quit playing tiddly-winks with those wanting our destruction.
would it save the future if we took the first step with nukes and disarm everyone else.

On the heels of the catastrophic Xmas tsunami that deluged broad swathes of India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and the Maldives, another disaster’s ravaged a country on the Indian Ocean littoral. During the weekend, the Shandiqar Dam, erected two years ago on the bleak Makran Coast of PAKISTAN’s Baluchistan Province, has cracked and crumbled, swamping a wide belt of lowlands.
This collapse reputedly took place under the severe pressure of unseasonably heavy rain- and snow-falls on the plateau upstream (and beyond, in the mountains of the Hindu Kush), inundating the barren landscape and causing hundreds of casualties. Many hundreds more persons are “missing”, thousands of people are displaced, plus there’s terminal damage to whatever meagre infrastructure had once existed there.
Normally a sweeping, arid waste of empty dunes and stony deserts, the howling wilderness of Baluchistan’s thinly populated - exclusively by Moslems, predominantly tribal, mostly nomadic - except where there’s a modicum of water. This year the Baluchistan’s seen sudden, immense torrents of the stuff - grievously reducing the number of its settled inhabitants.
Following the awful tsunami, many influential Islamic clerics, throughout the Umma, decreed that the devastating waves’d been a divine punishment of the impious, including Moslems, and a sign for surviving Moslems to redouble their fervour - not neglecting pursuit of the Jihad.
Without the shadow of a doubt, this tragic flooding of Baluchistan’ll be “explained” to a gullible audience in identical terms by its mullahs - recruiting youths for the “Holy Wars” in Pakistan’s adjacent North West Frontier Province and across the border in Afghanistan, and beyond....
El-Qaeda’s selected Pakistan as one of its two, co-equal TOP targets - primarily, in order to command its sizeable nuclear arsenal and attendant atomic-arms and missile industries. The second one’s Saudi Arabia, to seize its obscene wealth and control its oil-spigot.
If the Jihadis can capture either of these, they will enjoy an immediate and hefty advantage in securing the other, delivering them MAJOR - THEN PREPONDERANT - international clout: the ability to extort abject compliance from the dar el-harb, via threatening it (with the highest degree of credibility) with thermonuclear aggression against its countries and cities, pressed with zeal by Islamo-fascism - unless the West, et al, promptly submit to the wishes of “Sheikh” Osama bin-Laden and his ilk.

Let's make a deal. Pakistan turns those weapons over to the United States. In return, the United States does not say a word about it, and the Pakistani masses can continue to revel in their government having acquired nuclear weapons. And the ability of Pakistan to export its textiles and so on will be permitted to continue.
Or Pakistan refuses. In which case American and other markets are closed down, Pakistanis in the West (whether citizens or not, they are all part of the umma al-islamiyya) will be prevented from sending back remittances to Pakistan, and everything will be done to destroy the Pakistani economy and Pakistan's military capacity -- while India's military will be supplied with every advantage, and every kind of diplomatic and financial support will be poured into India, even as Pakistan dissolves economically.
They have a choice. They can give up the weaponry based on plans stolen by A. Q. Khan and supported to the hilt by the Pakistani army, which weaponry was also, apparently, shared with Libya and with North Korea. It is time to read the riot act to Musharraf.
And part of that riot act will be to make clear to the Pakistani elite that they cannot count on their children gettiing out of the Pakistani nightmare for the West -- unless those weapons are handed over. Repatriate Musharraf's son from Canton, Massachusetts to Pakistan, along with the sons and daughters of other powerful Pakisetanis. Cut off access to Western education and Western medical care. Eventually, the point will be made: keep the weapons, and every kind of disaster will befall you. Give them up, and your children will be saved, and your economy, not waving but drowning, will be kept afloat for a while longer.
How is that for a deal?
And the next time American policy-makers get the bright idea that Islam is a "bulwark" against Communism or anything else, that those Pakistani generals, with that military bearing and that Aldershot spit-and-polish that for decades went over so well in Washington, or are more offended by some avatar of the late, anti-American Krishna Menon than they are by Pakistan's persecution of Hindus, Sikhs, and Christians, they should count to a hundred, and then keep counting until they calm down and come to their senses. Hindustan, even Hindutva (which gets such a bad press), is not to be treated with continuing contempt.

Pakistani army's control is slipping. There
is trouble brewing in Balochistan. Not a day
passes when a gas pipeline is not blown up
by the Balochis. Balochis cannot be controlled.
NWFP is the experimenting with Sharia under MMA.
Punjabi racial arrogance is despised by other
provinces. Karachi has become the killing
fields of MQM. Shias and sunnis are still deciding
the outcome of the 7th century war of Karbala.
Ofcourse, the sinister ISI is always there. Musharraf is no Ataturk but a taqiya trained juggler. The Pakistani army establishment (including Musharraf) hates India more than it hates America. The jihadis hate America more than they hate India.
It is a recipe for disaster. The so called Pakistani intellectuals would rather defend polygamy and rationalize honor killing. Reform is not possible in this society which does not even think that Islamization is a part of the problem.

Here's a thought...
Don't we need Muslims in the West as a human shield against this type of thing?
Pragmatic?

Hadith2,
I'd be much more concerned about the nukes getting "stolen" (the sneer quotes meaning they were actually sold or given to jihadists).

rikki, and that is precisely the meaning i knew?we need to take the initiative as the dominant leader of the free world and since those rugue countries can not secure what could destroy the world would not then be good to secure the nukes for them?and in this day and age who will readily agree?....none.....the threat is continuos...options are not.....what if.....had i known then what i know now....infinite.....
