Ex-PM: Hezbollah rally in Beirut a massive hoax

An astounding story from WND (thanks to Teri) about this rally:

JERUSALEM – The giant Hezbollah rally that drew nearly half a million purported supporters of Syria's occupation of Lebanon actually was a staged hoax with non-Lebanese citizens, Syrian workers, students and municipal employees coerced into joining the protest, former Lebanese Prime Minister Michel Aoun told WorldNetDaily in an exclusive interview this morning.

"Yesterday's huge protest calling for Syria to stay made it look to the world like a large segment of the Lebanese population actually wants to live under Syrian occupation," said Aoun, speaking to WND from Paris. "But the protest wasn't what it appeared to be. It was an elaborately staged affair."

Hundreds of thousands packed into a central Beirut meeting square yesterday, chanting support for Syrian troops to maintain positions in Lebanon and denouncing America in what has been called a massive show of strength by Syrian and Iranian-backed Hezbollah.

Protestors held signs, in English, reading "Thank you Syria'' and "No to foreign interference," a reference to American intervention. The crowd sang the national anthem and many waved red-and-white Lebanese flags, some holding posters with pictures of pro-Damascus Lebanese and Syrian presidents.

Oh realllllly? I do hope there is independant confirmation of this. Sounds just like anything Castro would do, and I half-expected it was the case but also expected to be dissed for saying so.

Hence the hope for other coverage of the story.

Suprised?
If there's one thing tin-horn dictators are good at it's stageing rallies.

Kj~ I would like to make formal apology to you, for my earlier, profane comments in this thread. And in previous threads. We have our differences and I have no idea if we will ever understand each other, but I shall strive harder.

My apologies, also, to all the rest of those who come here and have to be witness to that. I should allow myself to be sidestracked, nor speak to others in such fashion. It only detracts from the purpose of this site, which is Preservation of our Future, nothing less.

Nowadays, attention’s being paid to ONE Provision of UN Resolution 1559, which demands the Syrian Army and Syria’s “security” forces leave Lebanon FORTHWITH.

There are a further TWO: (a) that ALL Lebanese and non-Lebanese militias (including terrorist-entity Hezbollah, the “Palestinian” terror-factions and the el-Qaeda proxies in UNWRA's Ein el-Hilwe refugee-camp and elsewhere) DISARM and (b) that ALL foreign armed groups, i.e. the cadres and commandos of IRAN’s Revolutionary Guards (Pasdaran), DEPART.

The contemporary, multilateral concentration on halting Iran’s acquisition of nukes probably comes too late by now; the Islamic Republic likely already possesses all that it needs to assemble a minimal - but altogether FUNCTIONAL - “atomic war-fighting ability” THIS YEAR (and to get on with its expansion up to whatever Iran deems to be an adequate size).

Reputedly, the diverse components for Iran’s industry to attain this weapons-status have been dispersed across the country, to various, top secret and highly secured sites. Destroying the lot via strike-actions could prove to be physically impossible - the best to be obtained thereby’s liable to be some DELAY in the Iranians’ ongoing nuclear armaments’ accumulation.

Accordingly, the West’s priority ought NO LONGER be to carry on diplomacy to persuade the Grand Council of Islamic Guidance to assent to some illusory “nuclear freeze”. Instead, the KEY PRIORITY should become the execution of PROMPT RÉGIME-CHANGE in Tehran.

However, Iran’s nuclear disarmament ISN’T GUARANTEED to follow - even a prospective, democratic government will, logically, have an interest in an atomic arsenal. After all, Iran - geostrategically - is directly in the MIDDLE of the densest “nuclear neighbourhood” on Earth: India, Pakistan, China, Russia and Israel (with the USA, for now in addition, in Iraq, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea). Veritably, Iran’s surrounded.

A formidable focus on toppling the Ayatollahs, replacing them with democratic rule, wouldn’t necessarily presage a de-nuclearized Iran. But, at least, it’d mean that this newly free nation will then be irrevocably subject to the rational, Machtspolitikal forces which can lead to a “peace of mutual deterrence” with any of its future, regional adversaries - relegating and regulating it’s A-Bombs to the purely DEFENSIVE role, instruments in a Détente configuration - a lesser peril.

Alas, these essentially practical principles AREN’T exigencies that Iran, as run today by the Theocrats, is prepared to accept - this is the bigger peril. They’d derangedly prefer to view things, ultimately, in terms of Islamic “martyrdom” - they’ve coldly reiterated that they’d be “privileged” to sacrifice millions of own their people (and many other Moslems also) by initiating the offensive of launching a volley of their payloads at Israel, to obliterate it in a surprise attack, as soon as they’re equipped to do so (in six months to five years, it’s estimated).

In supreme callousness and utmost inhumanity, they’d conduct this hit in the perfect knowledge that Iran would inevitably receive the brunt of whatever retaliation Israel’ll be able to muster in its extremis. - Nevertheless, they count as very well worth it, in the end, that Israel’ll be gone, but that the dar el-Islam - despite the great chance of immense damage to it - will survive.

With the clock racing on, it’s now vital to cut to the chase. The way ahead vis-à-vis the Islamic Republic is to exert the weight of America, the E3 and their allies and associates behind a policy of régime-change there, FIRST AND FOREMOST - and on an URGENT basis.

Let the Iranian citizenry be frankly and comprehensively advised that ridding themselves, popularly, of the pernicious Mullahs and installing an open democracy must be the favoured route to satisfactory progress in this hazardous confrontation.

But if, regrettably, they can’t manage the requisite transition themselves, and IN TIME, then, unfortunately, it’ll have to be performed - on the Iranians’ behalf and pivotally for the sake of eliminating a SERIOUS regional risk emanating from their soil - with the application of “alternative tactics and methods”, and SOON.

Another Lebanese hoax??? From Drudge

Ex-Marine Says Public Version of Saddam Capture Fiction

A former U.S. Marine who participated in capturing ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein said the public version of his capture was fabricated.

Ex-Sgt. Nadim Abou Rabeh, of Lebanese descent, was quoted in the Saudi daily al-Medina Wednesday as saying Saddam was actually captured Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, and not the day after, as announced by the U.S. Army.

"I was among the 20-man unit, including eight of Arab descent, who searched for Saddam for three days in the area of Dour near Tikrit, and we found him in a modest home in a small village and not in a hole as announced," Abou Rabeh said.

"We captured him after fierce resistance during which a Marine of Sudanese origin was killed," he said.

He said Saddam himself fired at them with a gun from the window of a room on the second floor. Then they shouted at him in Arabic: "You have to surrender. ... There is no point in resisting."

"Later on, a military production team fabricated the film of Saddam's capture in a hole, which was in fact a deserted well," Abou Rabeh said.

Abou Rabeh was interviewed in Lebanon.

'Hundreds of thousands'- really?? Where did that come from? Mostly Syrians and Paleys?

And Iran? Holy Shiite! Their population has tripled or even quadrupled since Khomeinis 'revolution'...
Most are poor now, apart from the Mullahs who have been lining their pockets.

Yeah HGII:

They don't care to see hundreds of thousands of their own killed for the Dar al Islam. They are stupid enough to strike Israel, regardless of what comes back.

I'm just wondering: would we face these problems today (at all) if Peanut Carter had kept the Shah in power? This fool could have stopped this 'Islamic thing' at least to some degree. But then again: Perhaps not. After all we were already supporting the Mudjaheddin against the Russians in Afghanistan. And we all know that Bin Laden was already swinging his dick around there and then...

Re Lebanon and Syria:

How easy is it to tell Israeli, Syrian, and Lebanese Druze apart? Or Lebanese, Syrian, and Israeli Eastern Orthodox? or Sunnis? How easy is it to distinguish an Israeli Mizrahi from any Arab when no religious insignia or distinctive dress is worn? A lot of "Palestinians" from the Haifa area were in fact Syrian migrant laborers who were the mainstay for that city's mandate-era port's scut labor.

By the same token, I can't tell Canadians from the folks from the northern USA without a peek at their documents--or from American Sothrons who've shed the dialect. I'm sure Austrians and Germans could blend in with each others' crowds. At least well-paid, urban folks from Mainland China might be able to blend in in Taiwan.

While I hope Aoun is right, the possibility that Syria could bring in scads of demonstrators if it wanted, or even count on widespread support among Lebanese Shi'ah, indicates that Syria is the side with the options.

Miira~ I checked that link, read down thru the blog... very interesting!
It was amusing to see the one liberal who showed up. Very easy to tell the difference in styles: denigration, demonization, demeanization, deny... sounded very much like those joker islamists this past weekend on the final Armanious thread.

For half a million "Lebanese" to turn out "spontaneously" to support Hezbollah smacks of just a little orchestration and inflated numbers to boot. Who calculated the size of the crowd -- the demographers the PA used to calculate population growth in the territories?

Such support as Hezbollah and Syria may enjoy in Lebanon could be a mile wide, but it's likely less than an inch deep. (An Op-Ed in the March 10 New York Times suggests Hezbollah may have just cost itself dearly in lost support from Lebanese people who want the Syrians out)

I remember well the days preceding the fall of the Shah of Iran and coverage of marches in his support and how quickly it flipped to to Ayatollah Khomeini, so I tend to be skeptical about relying on such demonstrations as a real read of what the Arab street thinks.

The Lebanese Sattelite Channel reported that there were buses that came from Syria carrying demonstrators. I think most of the people were Lebanese Shiite Muslims though, and they had to come out to support what Hezbollah wants. Those people are followers, and when Hezbollah throws a rally, the Shiites in Southern Lebanon will hit the streets. No one will be excused for staying home. Plus, the anti-American propaganda machine is in full swing in the South. Hezbollah are fighting for their life. When Syria leaves Lebanon, hopefully, Hezbollah will be exposed, just like a worm on hot pavement. And, resolution 1559 calls for them to disarm, which they will never do voluntarily. Yesterday, the Lebanese opposition rejected resolution 1559- this news according to Al-Jazeera. Hezbollah, the pro-Syrian Lebanese govt., and Syria are all misinforming the public about the true intent of 1559. If Hezbollah is disarmed, then Israel will do whatever it wants on the Lebanese border, and might even invade Lebanon again. The ignorant Arab Muslims believe such talk. I'm also going to add a few words about ignorant Lebanese Christians who participated in the pro-Syrian demonstrations. Lebanon is the most complicated, so-called democratic country.
